Castel Sismondo
The existing portion of Castello Sismondo was built in 1437. The castle is named after its owner, Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, then lord of Rimini and Fano. The castle is irregular in shape, surrounded by a deep moat, connected by a drawbridge. The castle itself was used for military defense. Parts of the outbuildings were later demolished, leaving only the towers and walls. With at least 4 cruise ships docked in Venice the main area was packed so in Malamocco there was hardly anyone around to enjoy. As other reviewers have said there is not much to do or see. We just enjoyed the peaceful setting and had a great meal in the leafy courtyard of Trattoria days Scarso.
