Lianzhou underground river

4.8/5
7.2k reviews
Lianzhou underground river is located 26 km northeast of the ancient city of Lianzhou, nestled in the towering mountains at the junction of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hunan provinces. It is a giant natural limestone cave typical of subtropical karst landforms. Renowned for its mysterious and magnificent stalactites and subterranean rivers, it is hailed as the premier underground river in Guangdong. The attraction features both land and water routes - the land route showcases the cave formations while the water route explores the underground river. With its grand scale, spectacular views and unique combination of features, the Lianzhou underground river is considered a marvel of Lingnan region. Celebrated writer Qin Mu described it as "a mysterious and magnificent underground river". Its distinctive characteristics include caves within caves, rivers within caves, bridges within caves and waterfalls within caves. The Lianzhou underground river lies hidden in a karst cave halfway up the high mountain, covering an area of 100,000 m² with 60,000 m² accessible for visitors. The upper two levels feature spectacular sights like the 30 m-high sky-piercing pillar and the immortal field square that can accommodate 10,000 people. The third level consists of a winding underground river where water quietly flows into the cave's depths. The cave presents an extraordinary landscape with endless mountain-water vistas, towering cliffs, and naturally formed majestic openings that create a profound sense of discovering a hidden world - arguably surpassing even the seven-star attraction. With year-round temperatures maintained at 18-22°C, humidity at 96-98%, oxygen levels as high as 21.4-21.6%, and carbon dioxide content merely 0.01-0.019%, the cave offers fresh air, warm winters and cool summers, making it an ideal sanctuary for tourism and summer retreats. The cave features countless stalactites of diverse shapes and dazzling colors, with the tour area divided into three levels. The upper and middle levels are land layers with tall, spacious halls and solid rock walls, presenting magnificent scenes like "waterfalls," "mountain forests," "secluded valleys," "pastoral fields," and "Yao villages," where flowers bloom in competition and birds soar amid drifting clouds. The lower level is an underground river meandering 1,500 m from north to south, passing through three beautiful gorges and beneath four mountain peaks. The river is 1.6-10 m wide and 1-7 m deep, with breathtaking scenery along both banks, including the cave treasures "Golden rooster heralds the dawn" and "Flying elephant crosses the river," as well as the two-in-one spectacle "Longevity star" in the underground river. There are also nearly 100 natural wonders formed by stone pillars, stone curtains, stalagmites, stone lotus roots, and stone flowers, such as "Flying waterfall and strange rocks" and "Flower and bird divine pavilion." Every natural wonder leaves visitors in awe, making them reluctant to leave. Lianzhou underground river offers free guide services, and viewing the stone formations with the guide's explanation makes it more fascinating. After walking through the land layer, visitors can board a cruise boat, with each boat accommodating approx. 18 people. The small boat travels along the underground river through winding and narrow passages, where stalactites overhead are within reach. Along the way, you'll pass through three gorges: banana gorge, lotus gorge, and Lianzhou underground river-dragon gate gorge. The stalactite formations on both banks, illuminated by lights, create a breathtaking sight. Visitors often get wet from water droplets falling from the dome, unlike overdeveloped caves that have dried up and lost their vitality. Product type: Land layer tour + cruise. The Lianzhou underground river attraction operates on a single-ticket system for the cave. The standard tour duration is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours (may extend during peak season and holidays). The itinerary includes walking through the land layer and taking a cruise along the underground river. The cruise lasts about 10-15 minutes, and the entire cave tour takes approx. 1.5 hours.Lianzhou · 25.6km from downtown

Gu Long Xia

4.4k reviews
Gu Long Xia Forest Adventure Kingdom in Qingyuan is located in Binjiang Canyon, Qingxin District, Qingyuan City, 68 km from downtown Guangzhou, at the intersection of Guangqing Expressway, Qinglian Expressway (Xu-Guang Expressway), and Shanzhan Expressway. Nestled between towering cliffs with an elevation difference of 1,000 m, Gu Long Grand Canyon combines waterfalls, deep pools, peculiar rocks, and lush forests. The canyon features steep cliffs, majestic peaks, cascading silver waterfalls, rapid streams, and dense primeval rainforests that block out the sun, offering pleasant weather year-round. Its landscape can be summarized with ten characteristics: "unique, secluded, elegant, delicate, serene, vast, thrilling, adventurous, comprehensive, and ancient." The canyon preserves 30 million m² of subtropical rainforest with a forest coverage rate of 99.1%. With negative oxygen ion concentrations reaching 160,000/cm³, it's a natural oxygen bar perfect for rejuvenation. Qing Dynasty poet Yuan Mei once described Gu Long Xia's grandeur and tranquility with the verse: "Mountains surge like waves, springs murmur as streams flow. Clouds tread beneath my feet, pine waves paint a rare view." Nestled within the dramatic terrain of grand canyons, vast forests, and towering waterfalls, Gu Long Xia has vertically developed five major adventure zones across its 1 km elevation drop amidst cliffside jungles: the Sky Glass Bridge, aerial adventures, grand waterfall clusters, international rafting, and the viral River Valley. Recognized as a National Sports Tourism Demonstration Site and an international rafting competition venue with a certified course by the General Administration of Sport of China, this attraction holds 12 world records. Dubbed "The Undisputed King of Rafting & Glass Bridges" and "The New Global Leader in High-Altitude Sightseeing," Gu Long Xia delivers an unparalleled trifecta of thrills—whitewater rapids, forest expeditions, and sky-high vistas—all in one destination. If the cliff coaster at Gu Long Xia challenges vertical limits, then the canyon coaster pushes the boundaries of extreme curves. The Canyon Coaster stretches 3,680m like a sky road winding through the majestic Ancient Dragon Mountains, crossing three peaks with its terrain-hugging, undulating path that features continuous twists and turns. With a total elevation drop of 260m and speeds reaching 30 km/h, its track design incorporates 28 challenging compound curves including right-angle turns, hairpins, 360-degree spirals, and figure-eight loops. Notably, its "nine consecutive hairpins" surpass the world-famous five-hairpin section of Japan's Akina Pass, making this China's longest mountain coaster with the most curves—a true test of skill with its nine dramatic bends and twenty-eight thrilling turns. The canyon coaster lets you experience gravity-powered downhill racing from mountaintop to finish line, breaking free from Earth's pull as you "skim the ground" along mountain paths like a soaring eagle. With wind howling past your ears, the scenery unfolds like a flowing ink painting - undulating peaks, lush forests, and majestic canyons all receding behind you during thrilling drifts. Beyond the rollercoaster-like jungle route, multiple obstacles and "traps" along the way require no advanced skills but deliver genuine adrenaline rushes when conquered. Approaching each curve with white-knuckled grips, your heartbeat syncs with the cart's dramatic undulations. The track alternates between perilously narrow sections demanding total focus and breathtaking open stretches that unleash involuntary screams of exhilaration. The construction of the canyon race track strictly adheres to international standards, utilizing premium materials for meticulous finishing and installation. Multiple safety protection facilities are installed along the route, with its safety certified by both international and domestic authoritative institutions including the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute, providing visitors with solid and reliable safety assurance. The starting point of the canyon coaster is located at the end of the cliff coaster, seamlessly connecting with the thrilling ride to form an amazing "double coaster" combo. After visiting Gu Long Xia's glass bridge and walking down the mountain, or experiencing the cliff coaster, visitors can quickly reach the canyon coaster starting point via the magic carpet. Without any physical exertion, they can drift down the mountain, truly achieving the experience of climbing no steps while missing no scenery. Enjoy both speed and excitement while marveling at nature's breathtaking craftsmanship. Feel your heart race through winding turns, chase clouds and sunsets across canyon jungles! The thrilling canyon coaster takes you on another adrenaline-pumping adventure!Qingyuan · 14.8km from downtown

Gulong Gorge Drifting

Gulong Gorge Rafting is a thrilling natural river drift located in Qingxin District, Qingyuan City. It features a natural and primitive landscape with steep riverbeds, towering cliffs, and numerous waterfalls on both sides of the river. It is known for its wild and masculine beauty, characterized by its roaring rapids and breathtaking scenery. Gulong Gorge Rafting has hosted several international drifting competitions and is designated as a drifting racecourse by the General Administration of Sport of China. The racecourse is 6,063 meters long with a drop of 378 meters and can reach speeds of up to 72 kilometers per hour. It is divided into two sections, the "Race Track" and the "Extreme Race Track," making it the longest, steepest, and fastest drifting project in Guangdong Province. In 2019, it successfully achieved two world records for the longest natural water racecourse and the largest drop in a natural water racecourse. Known as the "roller coaster on the waves," Gulong Gorge Rafting is considered the most thrilling drifting experience in Guangdong. The average slope of the racecourse is 9.5%, surpassing the average slope of 7.5% in the world's largest canyon, the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. The most heart-pounding experience is the "Dragon Looking Back" section, which features a 180-degree turn resembling the majestic U-shaped bend of the Yarlung Zangbo River. With towering cliffs on both sides, it creates a formidable and breathtaking sight. The high-speed kayaks glide like roller coasters between the peaks and valleys of the waves. Just when the adrenaline is rushing, they suddenly come to a stop and smoothly enter a clear water pool, bringing a moment of tranquility after the excitement. Due to its deep and steep canyon, towering cliffs, dense forests, ancient trees, and intertwining vines, the river of Gulong Gorge Rafting is surrounded by a "forest tunnel." The primitive jungle blocks out the sunlight, making it difficult to see the sun throughout the year, and the highest temperature is only 22°C. Compared to other drifting experiences that expose participants to the scorching sun in summer, Gulong Gorge Rafting is known as the only drifting experience in Guangdong where you don't need to apply sunscreen. The main water source of the drifting river comes from the Gulong Cave in the canyon, where multiple layers of sandstone shale are distributed, and multiple springs converge with a thunderous sound, providing clear and refreshing water. This has given rise to the legend of the "Gulong Mingquan" (Dragon Roaring Spring). Qingyuan is known as the hometown of drifting in China, and Gulong Gorge Rafting is regarded as the epitome of drifting in Qingyuan. The drifting river of Gulong Gorge Rafting has been meticulously designed by international drifting experts according to racecourse standards. It was one of the first standardized racecourses certified by the Provincial Bureau of Technical Supervision, and its safety has been certified by authoritative institutions such as the China Classification Society and the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau. With its wild drops, intense rhythm, pristine ecology, and high-quality water source, Gulong Gorge Rafting has set a new standard for drifting in China and is widely recognized as the most thrilling and enjoyable drifting experience in the country. In 2019, the newly upgraded Gulong Gorge Rafting incorporated an Amazon tribal scene and various adventure experiences such as Monkey Island, Crocodile Pond, and Dinosaur Valley, making it a themed drifting project.Qingyuan · 14.3km from downtown

The rafting was alright, quite exciting, and the queue wasn't too long. The wait time plus the rafting ride itself was about an hour. It was a bit pricey, though; a family of three would spend over a thousand yuan per ride.

Qingyuan Gulongxia Rafting 🌊 With a total drop of 378 meters, it truly lives up to its reputation! Surrounded by mountains and forests, the environment is beautiful, and the scenery along the way is breathtaking. The entire rafting trip is thrilling, with continuous steep plunges that will have you screaming all the way. On the calmer sections, you can even have water fights, creating a highly interactive atmosphere, and there's even a fun water spray show. The facilities are complete, with changing rooms, storage, and life jacket and helmet collection points. Tips: You'll definitely get soaked! Remember to bring a change of clothes, beach shoes, and waterproof your phone. After rafting, head to a nearby farm for a local meal. A perfect one-day trip, ideal for friends, families, or a road trip.

Bijia Mountain is definitely worth a visit. There are many fun activities along the way, some free and some paid, which greatly enhances the visitor experience. The only downside is that the staff at the glass slide were too pushy with sales pitches; they charged me 30 yuan for a short ride and even told me it had two curves! 😂

The area primarily features natural scenery, and the popular miniature train is quite nice; riding it through flower fields and forests is very atmospheric. Several rides are available at the scenic area, but these require additional payment.

Value for money: It's incredibly good value for money. It's free; you don't need to buy a ticket unless you take the boat. There is a separate boat tour of the Huangchuan Three Gorges that requires a ticket. It's perfect for bringing children to get close to nature.
