In the beliefs of the Aztec people, an indigenous group of Native Americans, this temple was the center of their spiritual world. However, the Spanish colonial invasion in 1521 destroyed the temple, leaving only ruins. Inside, a museum now houses the remains unearthed through archaeological excavation, showcasing the ancient charm of Aztec civilization. The invaders demolished the great temple, using the materials to build a church right next to it—a classic example of civilization destroying another. The two sites are close together and can be visited together. Mexico has a rich history and is well worth exploring.
