Old Town Nessebar

The ancient city of Basel in OldNessebar is located on a rocky peninsula on the coast of the Black Sea, which was a settlement of Thracians about 3,000 years ago. By 600 BC, it was a Greek colony. Most of the city's remains date back to the ancient Greek period and include the Acropolis, the Temple of Apollo, the square and the remaining wall of a Thracian fortress. Other important monuments include the Old Metrorian Town Hall and some fortresses built during the Middle Ages, when Nessebar was one of the main Byzantine towns on the west coast of the Black Sea. The wooden houses built in the 19th century reflect the typical architectural features of the Black Sea region at that time.
