Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, located in Muscat, the capital of Oman, is a national grand mosque commissioned by Sultan Qaboos to commemorate his 30-year reign and gifted to the nation. The entire complex is built with hundreds of thousands of tons of Indian sandstone. Its white exterior walls are elegant and solemn, and five minarets surround it, which, together with the central grand dome, form a striking city landmark in Muscat. The core of the visit is the square main prayer hall, which can accommodate thousands of worshippers. The floor is covered by a single hand-woven Persian carpet, which was woven by over 600 Iranian weavers over approx. 4 years. It blends classic patterns from Tabriz, Kashan, and Isfahan, presented in over 20 different shades of color. Looking up, you will see an Italian crystal chandelier adorned with hundreds of thousands of crystals, which complements the carpet beneath your feet. Together with the outer courtyard, corridors, and a separate women's prayer hall, the entire mosque can accommodate approx. 20,000 worshippers at one time.Muscat · 1.8km from downtown

Fort Mirani is a famous historical fortress in Muscat, the capital of Oman. Built during the Portuguese invasion, the fortress is perched on a steep rock face, commanding a strategic position that offers a significant advantage in both offense and defense. Together with Fort Jalali on the east side of the harbor, they form the "Twin Forts," creating a formidable defensive line protecting Muscat Bay. The two forts stand facing each other, exuding an imposing presence. The fortress retains its rustic defensive style, with towers and thick walls complementing each other. The building has undergone several renovations and still retains some historical military relics. Due to its proximity to the Sultan's Palace, it holds an important administrative and cultural geographical position and often appears as an iconic backdrop to Muscat in various accounts. Today, visitors can not only experience its historical significance up close but also enjoy panoramic views of the azure bay from its top.Muscat · 19.4km from downtown

Muscat Royal Opera House, a very exquisite new theater, with white exterior walls and tiles that are very noble, and there are supporting commercial areas and high-end restaurants around it. If you are lucky, you can visit the performance rehearsal, but you are not allowed to take pictures. I thought I could enter for free, but later a local brother reminded me to buy a ticket (at first he wanted us to give him cash, but later we insisted that he take us to the ticket office, 3 riyals per person)

Built by the Portuguese in the 1580s, these two forts dominate the eastern end of the Mutrah harbour. For military purposes, the Portuguese built several forts such as Jalali Fort, Minari Fort and Mutrah Fort on the geological formations and strategic positions of the ophiolite hills, with the aim of monitoring enemy invasions. These forts are the only link between the Muscat of yesteryear and the Muscat of today. They played a pivotal role in Oman’s past. These forts are a window into an important history that helped to establish and create various cultures and traditions that ultimately led to the Oman we know today.
