Temple Square

Temple Square is located in the heart of Salt Lake City and is the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It covers about 10 acres and is surrounded by a wall. Utah State Capitol

During restoration, the entire building was placed on base isolators, making it capable of withstanding strong earthquakes. Inside, you will find marble floors from Georgia underfoot, and the central three-story rotunda is the highlight of the building: the center of the dome features a ceiling painting of seagulls flying through clouds, and the circular frieze depicts scenes from Utah's history, including the moment when the golden spike was driven to complete the first transcontinental railroad. A massive chandelier hangs beneath the dome. The arched murals and niche statues around the rotunda, the historical paintings in the legislative chambers on both sides, and the gold-leaf decorated Golden Room are all worth taking your time to admire. The circular walkway, lawns, and gardens around the building are perfect for a stroll, and the beehive-shaped sculpture echoes Utah's nickname, the "Beehive State." The replica of the Liberty Bell on the grounds is also worth noting.
