Castell de Xativa
Castell de Xàtiva, located in the La Costera region of the province of Valencia in the Valencian Community, Spain, sits on a ridge overlooking the city of Xàtiva and is one of the most representative historical landmarks in the area. The castle stretches along the mountain terrain, with a total length of nearly 1 km, and consists of two parts, the "Lower Castle" and the "Upper Castle," connected by walls, giving it a unique structure and imposing grandeur. Its history dates back to the Iberian and Roman periods, and it underwent continuous expansion and renovation over time, resulting in a diverse architectural style reflecting cultural fusion. Due to its strategically important location, it once controlled the ancient major transportation route, the "Via Augusta," and therefore long served a crucial military defense role, witnessing numerous significant wars and changes of power. During the Middle Ages, the castle was further fortified and became a key defensive line for the Kingdom of Valencia, also serving at times as a prison for important figures. Today, the castle still preserves remnants such as walls, towers, and a chapel, with some areas housing exhibition spaces that showcase its rich historical background.
