Gold Ancient Town Reviews
Advantages
Rich historical and cultural heritage: This area was once a major gold-producing area during the Qing Dynasty, earning the nickname "Rouge Ditch." The ancient town, set against the backdrop of the late Qing Dynasty's Taipinggou gold mining era, vividly showcases the gold mining culture and social landscape of that era through its Gold Museum, historic gold shops, escort agencies, and other buildings, along with statues of characters.
Simple architectural style: The ancient town's buildings are quaint, featuring blue bricks and gray tiles, carved beams and painted rafters, and a staggered layout imbued with a rustic charm, offering a sense of time travel back in time to the prosperous gold rush era.
A wide variety of experiences: Visitors can personally experience panning for gold in the sand, embracing the hardships and joys of the gold miners of yesteryear. Furthermore, the ancient town frequently hosts folk performances such as Errenzhuan (two-person opera) and yangko (yangge) dance, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rich atmosphere of Northeastern folklore. Beautiful Natural Scenery: The ancient town is connected to the Longjiang Three Gorges Scenic Area. Boat trips through the canyon offer breathtaking views of the sheer cliffs and crystal-clear waters of the river. "National Geographic China" has called it "Heilongjiang's Most Beautiful Landscape Gallery."
Well-Reached Amenities: The ancient town features an entertainment center with billiards, a chess and card room, specialty restaurants, and guest rooms with wooden tiled roofs, offering comprehensive travel services.
Disadvantages:
The imitations of ancient architecture lack a sense of age: The ancient town is a replica of an existing site. While its architectural style is simple, it lacks the historical vigour of authentic ancient architecture, leading some visitors to describe it as "not ancient."
Remote Location: Located in a mountainous area, the ancient town faces limited transportation and is far from major cities. For some visitors, reaching the ancient town may require considerable time and effort.
Highly seasonal: Due to climate influences, the best time to visit the ancient town is from May to mid-October. The scenery and experience may be significantly diminished during other seasons. During peak tourist season, the crowds may also affect the visitor experience.
