4.1

In Luding, visitors can witness the vastness and mystery of the glaciers and experience a soul-stirring experience. Some of the ice towers here are tens of meters high, with various shapes and crystal clear. Under the sunlight, the ice tower forest shines with dazzling light, and each side reflects different colors. In addition, the dynamic changes of the glaciers are also fascinating. Geological landscapes such as ice cracks, ice caves, and ice waterfalls emerge in an endless stream. Especially in winter, ice waterfalls condense into huge ice sculptures, adding a sense of magnificence and mystery. In addition to the glaciers themselves, Luding also has rich natural ecological resources. Surrounded by primeval forests, ancient trees towering and blocking out the sun, adding a bit of vitality to the glacier landscape.

Niubei Mountain

6.3
4.9/5
4.1k reviews

Niubei Mountain is located at the border of Yingjing County and Luding County in Ya'an City, Sichuan Province. It belongs to the Erlang Mountain range and serves as the watershed between the Qingyi River and the Dadu River. With an elevation of 3,666 meters at its summit, it offers a 360-degree viewing platform. Legend has it that Laozi, the ancient Chinese philosopher, thinker, writer, and historian who founded Taoism, rode his green ox westward through Hangu Pass and traveled here. Upon seeing the surrounding mountains, snow-capped peaks, and the central prominence, he deemed it an ideal place for enlightenment and spiritual cultivation, thus settling here permanently. One day, the green ox emitted a mysterious glow as Laozi ascended to immortality. His mount then chose this blessed land to lie down and transform into Niubei Mountain. Empowered by the continuous divine energy of the surrounding sacred mountains, the sky manifested an auspicious purple aura from the east. Soon after, the mountaintop revealed the breathtaking "Six Wonders" celestial phenomena, bringing hope and happiness to this land and its inhabitants—hence the name Niubei Mountain. Transportation route: From the Luding direction, visitors can drive directly to the Niubei Mountain Changhaizi parking lot and transfer to the attraction's shuttle vehicles to enter. From the Yingjing direction, visitors must gather at the Niubei Mountain East Visitor Center (Shuanglin, Niubei Mountain Town) for dispersal. To ensure visitor safety, only professional travel agency teams are currently accepted from the Yingjing direction. Best time for photography: Each season offers unique scenery. From spring to summer, flowers like azaleas, primroses, and Himalayan blue poppies bloom across the landscape. Summer brings cool temperatures and ever-changing sea of clouds, while autumn showcases vibrant red foliage. Winter transforms the area into a snowy wonderland with frost-covered trees. The recommended period for visiting Niubei Mountain is from October to May, when the mountaintop enjoys dry air and frequent clear skies – making it the ideal time to witness the majestic Gongga Snow Mountain and breathtaking cloud formations. Location and area: Niubei Mountain covers a planned area of 394 square kilometers, with a core zone spanning 90 square kilometers. It consists of the existing 360-degree viewing platform, Sirentong, Shuanglin (Niubei Mountain East Visitor Center), and Changhaizi (Niubei Mountain West Visitor Center). The core zone is located in Niubei Mountain Town, Yingjing County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province.

Erlang Mountain National Forest Park

6.3
4.4/5
3.1k reviews

Erlang Mountain Diaohe Scenic Area is located at the southeast foot of Jiajin Mountain, at the southern edge of the rolling Longmen Mountain and Qionglai Mountains. It is a high mountain and deep valley area transitioning from the Sichuan Basin to the Western Sichuan Plateau. The tourism resources of the entire scenic spot can be divided into eight major scenic spots, including Angzhou River, Xuanxuangou, Fengzi River and the Grand Gorge. The scenic area has a good ecological environment, rich species of animals and plants, and many rare and protected species. It is a national forest park nature reserve. There are about 46 species of mammals, about 160 species of birds, about 7 species of fish, and about 14 species of reptiles known in the reserve, including giant pandas, takin, golden monkeys, red pandas, sambar deer, leopards, Sichuan-Shaanxi Salmon and other key protected wild animals. An Ice and Snow Festival is held here every year. Popular activities with themes such as "Christmas Market", "Ice and Snow Light Show", and "Romantic Warm Winter" have been popular among tourists. In late winter, the scenic area is covered with white snow, showing vitality and snowy interest in the severe cold winter. Looking at the rime-covered branches and the wonders and beautiful scenery, the scenery is like a snow country, which is intoxicating. At that time, you can take the cable car on the Jiaoshan Cableway and have a panoramic view of this beautiful scenery. Mountaineering route Recommendation 1: Erlang Mountain Diaohe River Scenic Area Walnut Ping - Shuangshixi - Lianxiang Slope - Jade Corridor - Luchi Distance: 3 kilometers. Road surface: Gravel road, going up slowly and not too steep. Special points of interest: The hiking trail goes up the stream, with green trees on both sides, birds singing and flowers fragrant. The river is gurgling and crystal clear, so you can play and walk at the same time. If you are tired from walking and don't want to walk back, you can also take a ride on the alpine waterslide in the scenic area to “drift down”. Recommendation 2: Wucai Valley - Ski Resort - Arrow Bamboo Forest - Niujingou - Primitive Forest Distance: 7-8 kilometers. Road surface: 3 kilometers of wooden plank roads and 4 kilometers of mountainous roads. Special points of interest: Climbing the original forest wooden plank road is easier and cooler. The altitude is higher and you can overlook the scenic spot. Wild animals can often be seen in the mountain forest. Red leaf viewing period: the end of October to the end of November (the best time to enjoy red leaves is only ten days, so it is recommended to consult the scenic spot before traveling. In addition, the weather is also very important, try to choose sunny days when traveling).

Hailuogou Scenic Area is mainly for viewing snow-capped mountains. Whether you can take good photos depends largely on the weather. Due to continuous rain, I waited for 4 days before entering the scenic area. The service was very good, after all, it is a 5A scenic area. The ticket prices for the shuttle bus and cable car are relatively high.

Weather is crucial; rain and heavy fog made it impossible to see Gongga Mountain from Camp 4, only the large icefall was barely visible. The drive is quite long, and the roads inside are somewhat abandoned. The Crescent Lake below the cable car in the scenic area was really uninteresting. The 20 RMB electric cart ride to Camp 3 offered nothing; after the earthquake, there was no scenery, only devastation! Red Lake was even worse… just a small pond. Only the aerial walkway from Camp 4 to Camp 3 through the primeval forest was somewhat acceptable.

This is a relatively old and historic Tibetan-style town. The famous Moxi Conference was held here, and the battle plan for seizing the Luding Bridge was also studied here. Chairman Mao also stayed here. The Hailuogou Visitor Center is located in the town. There are many guesthouses and hotels, and it's quite lively at night. The town also has public transportation, including direct buses to Chengdu.

Overall, the experience was okay. I only went to the East Line, not the West Line. I bought a West Line sightseeing bus ticket, but they close at 4 PM, so be sure to plan your time accordingly. The wind was very strong, giving me a headache, and it got a bit tiring after a while. Overall, it was very good.

The turbulent Dadu River bears witness to the Red Army's desperate breakout during the Long March; the Luding Bridge, with its iron chains spanning the sky, is a red monument to the Red Army's "seizure" of this natural barrier. This place witnessed the Red Army's breathtaking crossing of the Dadu River and the capture of the Luding Bridge, forging the Long March spirit of "fearless sacrifice and daring to win."
