Taizhou City Wall, also known as the "Jiangnan Great Wall", was first built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, expanded in the Tang Dynasty, finalized in the Song Dynasty, and perfected in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has both military and flood control functions. The existing city wall is 4,730 meters long. Its unique structure, standardized shape, and well-preserved are rare in the country. It was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2001 and was included in the China World Cultural Heritage Tentative List in 2012. Luo Zhewen, the leader of the Chinese Ancient Architecture Expert Group and the former honorary president of the Great Wall Society, praised it as the "model" and "blueprint" of the Northern Ming Great Wall.Linhai · 3.6km from downtown

Ziyang Street

4.6/5
367 reviews
Ziyang Street is located in Linhai City, Taizhou, stretching 1,080 meters in length with countless historical sites. It runs from Lansheng Gate in the north to Xingshan Gate in the Taizhou Prefecture Cultural Tourism Area in the south, traversing the ancient city of Linhai, and is one of China's best-preserved historical and cultural streets. The history of Ziyang Street dates back to the Tang Dynasty and flourished during the Song Dynasty, retaining the Song-era neighborhood layout. At that time, benefiting from the convenience of water transport along the Lingjiang River and the advantages of the prefectural city, it became a vital commercial hub. The street was densely lined with taverns, teahouses, shops, and workshops, while merchant ships from all directions brought goods and cultures, infusing the ancient street with diverse vitality. The architecture along the street preserves the legacy of the Song Dynasty and the layout of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, mostly wooden structures, predominantly two-story with some three-story buildings. Featuring white walls and black tiles, upturned eaves, and staggered arrangements, the buildings showcase exquisite craftsmanship. The "three carvings"—wood, lime, and stone—blend harmoniously, with corridors, doors, windows, and pillars adorned with lifelike figures and intricate patterns, reflecting the ancient people's aspirations for a prosperous life. The architecture embodies the typical Jiangnan "trinity" style, combining front shops, rear workshops, central living rooms, and upstairs bedrooms. Along the street, brick-built neighborhood walls appear at intervals, such as Yongjing Fang, Wuzhen Fang, Taizhou Prefecture Cultural Tourism Area - Fengxian Fang, and Taizhou Prefecture Cultural Tourism Area - Yingxian Fang.QinghefangBuilt in the 19th year of the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era by five scholars including Wu Zhiyu, this wall exudes ancient charm. Serving not only as a fire barrier but also a spatial divider, it embodies the wisdom of traditional architecture. The historic street also houses the former site of Taizhou Branch of the People's Bank of China (Ziyang Street). Dating back to the Republican era, this building now stands quietly at a corner of the old street, bearing witness to historical changes. The ground floor recreates the original banking scene, allowing visitors to sense the commercial atmosphere of that era, while the second floor displays vintage office furniture and local artifacts - each exhibit carrying memories of the past and radiating captivating period charm.Linhai · 3.2km from downtown

East Lake is located on the east side of the ancient city of Linhai. It was built in the Northern Song Dynasty and was originally a place where the navy patrolled troops. In the four years of Xining (1071) in the Northern Song Dynasty, Taizhou County guarded the Qianshuyan Shutantan and built it into a lake. The entrance to the southeast is Yishui Villa, which is named after Du Fu's poem "Famous Garden by Green Water". There are buildings that commemorate the money and the Qian family, commonly known as "the money garden." Since the Song Dynasty, East Lake has been maintained for generations. In recent years, the Linhai Municipal Government has also carried out a large-scale refurbishment of East Lake with reference to historical features, making the ancient park of the past millennium more glorious.Linhai · 2.4km from downtown

The Taozhu Ancient City was famous for the hero, General Qi Jiguang, who defeated the Japanese army on the southeast coast of Zhejiang. It was built in the 20th year of Ming Hongwu and has a history of more than 600 years. The Taozhu Ancient City has already appeared a bit shabby, but it also highlights the traces of history here. Take a leisurely walk in the ancient city and look back at the history, which is fun instead.Linhai · 38.7km from downtown

Kuocang Mountain is located in the southwest of Linhai. Its main peak, Mishailang, reaches an altitude of 1382 meters, making it the highest peak in southeastern Zhejiang. It's not as famous as Tianmu Mountain or Yandang Mountain, and is a rare place in Zhejiang that hasn't been heavily developed for tourism. The mountain retains few man-made traces, and the combination of sea of clouds, sunrise, and windmills creates an unforgettable landscape for every visitor. A monument commemorating the first ray of dawn in the new century (the Dawn Monument) at the summit marks it as the first place in mainland China to receive the first ray of dawn in the 21st century. Perhaps precisely because it hasn't been developed for tourism, the path to Kuocang Mountain is not easy. But when you stand at the summit, you see a vast and continuous mountain range, with windmills at the wind farms turning day after day. Large clouds often surround the mountains, and at sunrise, the sunlight paints the sea of clouds and sky a gradient of orange, making the journey worthwhile. Watching the sunrise at the Dawn Monument is a truly ceremonial experience.Linhai · 21.5km from downtown

Longxing Temple is located at the western foot of Jinshan Mountain in Linhai City. It was built in the first year of Shenlong in Tang Dynasty (705), and its initial name was "Shenlong Temple". In the second year (706), it was renamed "Zhongxing". In the third year of Jinglong (709), it was renamed "Longxing". In the twenty-sixth year of Kaiyuan (738), it was renamed "Kaiyuan". The archway at the entrance of Longxing Temple reads "Shenlong Ancient Temple". In short, Longxing Temple has a history of nearly 1,300 years. The temple was destroyed during the Anti-Japanese War, leaving only the Thousand-Buddha Pagoda built in the Tang Dynasty, which is a provincial cultural relic protection unit. Linhai Longxing Temple played an extremely important role in promoting the Tiantai School of Chinese Buddhism. During the Tang Tianbao period, Master Jianzhen traveled eastward to Fusang six times to spread the Dharma. Before his fourth eastward travel to Japan, he lived here in Xixi. Si Tuo, an eminent monk from Longxing Temple, followed Master Jianzhen to "build a boat four times and enter the sea five times", "always six times for over twelve years", and became the first eminent monk from Taizhou to go to Japan. After monk Jianzhen traveled eastward to Kyushu, Japan for the sixth time, Sito assisted Master Jianzhen in establishing the world-famous Tang Zhaoti Temple in Japan, and wrote "The Great Monk Jianzhen Biography". After Jianzhen passed away, Sito also made a statue of Jianzhen with dry lacquer and core. While spreading Vinaya in Japan, Sito actively promoted the teachings of the Tiantai religion founded in Taizhou, and received ordination for 40 people below the emperor, which opened the door for Japanese monks to enter the Tang Dynasty to seek Dharma.Linhai · 3.4km from downtown

Before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m., you can climb the city wall at Chaotianmen, Wangjiangmen, and Xingshanmen, but you cannot access the eight watchtowers. You can only see the highlights of the city wall after purchasing a ticket. The watchtowers and pavilions are definitely worth seeing. I climbed from Chaotianmen and descended from Lanshengmen, which took me 2.5 hours. I walked slowly, and there were rest areas on the watchtowers, which was quite thoughtful. I enjoyed the different views. The 198 steps down the steep slope at Lanshengmen were not tiring.

Ziyang Street is an old historical street reflecting the local area of Linhai, Taizhou. It is full of fireworks and quaint historical heritage. As the saying goes, the left hand has the bookish air and the right hand has the fireworks air. If you haven't been there, you can go and have a look and taste the local snacks. Food can heal everything. It will definitely be worth the trip. Invite your family or bestie to go.

It's free, and the scenery inside is beautiful. The carved railings and jade-like steps offer ever-changing views. Even though I grew up in Jiangnan, I was still amazed, especially at sunset when the pavilions, trees, and lake are bathed in a golden-red glow—it's incredibly beautiful. Many young women in Hanfu (traditional Han clothing) are taking photos here, which is very fitting for the occasion.

There are a lot of recreational facilities in Boonie Bears Park, including a pirate ship, a Ferris wheel, a dynamic 4D movie, a carousel, etc. The children had a lot of fun! There were not many people during the day, so there was no need to queue, which was really cool!

The Old Dragon Head, the only section of the Great Wall that extends into the sea, is located 4 kilometers south of Shanhaiguan District on the coast of the Bohai Sea. It's a magnificent and scenic section of the Ming Great Wall. The scenic area comprises the Sea-Entering Stone City, Chenghai Tower, Ninghai City, and the Sea God Temple, all of which are quite impressive.

Zhejiang Linghu Park, located in Linhai City, Taizhou, is an urban park that blends natural beauty, cultural attractions, and recreational activities. Here's a comprehensive review: Highlights and Features Lakeside scenery and beautiful surroundings The park, centered around Linghu Lake, boasts a vast expanse of water surrounded by lush trees and well-maintained trails, making it a popular spot for walking and cycling. The shimmering waters of the lake are particularly captivating at sunset, attracting photographers. Rich Cultural Heritage The park incorporates elements of Linhai's history and culture, such as poetry, sculptures, and antique architecture, which complement the natural landscape. The nearby Linhai Museum (reservations required) is also worth a visit to learn more about Taizhou culture. Extensive Recreational Facilities With a children's play area, fitness equipment, and a boat dock, it's perfect for families. At night, when the park is illuminated, the atmosphere creates a romantic atmosphere, making it a popular spot for evening strolls. A Variety of Activities Regular musical fountain performances and festival lantern festivals are held, especially during the summer when the lotus flowers are in full bloom. Disadvantages Commercialization is a bit heavy. Some areas along the lake have restaurants and commercial facilities. While convenient, they may detract from the natural environment and some visitors find them a bit noisy. Transportation needs improvement. Public transportation is limited, making driving more convenient, but parking is limited during peak hours. Maintenance Details: Some areas have bare lawns and outdated facilities, requiring regular maintenance. Visiting Recommendations Best time to visit: Early mornings and evenings in spring and autumn (avoid the midday sun). Lotus blossoms can be enjoyed in summer, but the park is a bit quieter in winter. Recommended Activities: Cycling around the lake, picnicking, visiting museums, and watching the sunset in the evening. Nearby Connections: Combine a day trip with a visit to Linhai Ancient City (Ziyang Street and the Jiangnan Great Wall). Summary: Linghu Park is a relaxing "backyard garden" for Linhai residents and a window for visitors to experience the local ecology and culture. Despite minor flaws, it offers excellent value and is a great place for relaxation. Those seeking pure natural wilderness may need to temper their expectations; however, those who appreciate the convenience and diversity of a city park should consider this a good choice.

The winding mountain road is 28 kilometers long and has beautiful scenery. However, when we reached the top of the mountain, the road was under construction. We chose another gravel road, which was in very poor condition. After a bumpy ride, we finally reached the top of the mountain. The scenery is beautiful, but the facilities on the mountain are relatively poor and are still under construction. It should get better and better.
