Beluga Point
No. 6 of Best Things to Do in Alaska

Beluga Point

3.2
Beluga Point is a well-known scenic spot located south of Anchorage along the Seward Highway, situated within Chugach State Park and adjacent to the entrance of Turnagain Arm. It is named for the beluga whales that can be seen up close during the summer and fall—between mid-July–October each year, the whales follow Pacific salmon upstream and often appear in groups in the shallow waters of the bay, where their distinct white forms are clearly visible. In addition to beluga whales, this is also a popular spot for observing Dall's sheep, bald eagles, and river otters. The site features a parking area and interpretive signs, and is equipped with telescopes for viewing, making it an ideal location to observe the spectacular tidal bore of Turnagain Arm. The area has a long geological and human history, with archaeological evidence indicating human activity dating back thousands of years.Anchorage · 10km from Hope

The Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary is a bird watching mecca in the Potter Marsh, Alaska Wildlife Sanctuary, which is part of the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. Originally a coastal tidal flat, the construction of the Alaska Railroad separated it from the sea and gradually evolved into a large freshwater swamp. During the migration season, Porter Marsh is a stopover for large numbers of migratory birds such as swans. It attracts many bird watchers and photographers every year. Several sections of walking trails with a total length of nearly a mile have been built in the swamp, which is convenient for bird watchers to go deep into the swamp and watch nearby.Anchorage · 20.2km from Hope

It's very beautiful and spectacular. Although the cost is a bit out of budget, the surprise it brings us is worth the price. It's a completely different experience and gives people a very good impression.

We stayed at Williwa Campground and hiked the trails. It was very nice. Lots to do. Be sure to check out the nature trail when the salmon come upriver! I believe this is part of the USFS Chugach NF.

【Scenery】This Porter Marsh Area Bird Sanctuary gave us a beautiful walk along a path that provided interesting information about the state and its economy and history. Also spotted a mom and baby moose - the baby was only 10 feet off the trail - and kept us safe while we enjoyed an extra long stop to watch the moose eat (while the mom watched from the bushes). Would definitely recommend.

It's pretty good. You can see wild black bears and brown bears, which are protected after being injured in the wild and fenced for everyone to visit, as well as some other animals. It's not far from Anchorage, and you will pass by here after getting off the boat at Whittier Pier.

Turnagain Bay is a very beautiful bay in Alaska in the summer, with a very long coastline. However, it is definitely not very beautiful in the winter, as the sea surface will be covered with ice and snow.
