The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Anshun, Guizhou, centered around the Huangguoshu Waterfall. Surrounded by deep gorges, dense vegetation, and dotted with limestone caves and stone forests, it is a typical karst landscape area. The waterfall's name originates from the locally abundant "Huangguoshu" (Ficus virens). Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake visited and documented this site, contributing to its fame. The scenic area primarily consists of three main sections: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. Most travelers follow the sequence of Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and finally the Great Waterfall, saving the most spectacular view for last. The grand waterfall has a drop of nearly 80 m and a width of over 100 m. The Baishui River plunges from the cliff top into Rhinoceros Pool, creating a vast mist. Multiple viewing platforms around it allow visitors to experience its grandeur, wonder, steepness, and beauty from different angles—above, below, front, back, left, and right. A particularly unique experience lies behind the waterfall: a 100 m long Water Curtain Cave runs horizontally through its midsection, featuring cave windows and halls. Reaching through a window, one can touch the cascading water. The cave served as the filming location for the Water Curtain Cave in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. Due to the heavy humidity inside, bringing a raincoat in advance is recommended. Tianxing Bridge is renowned for its harmonious blend of rocks, water, trees, and caves—where rocks rise from the water, caves hide within rocks, and trees stand beside caves. The stepping stones along the path are engraved with dates, allowing travelers to find their own "birthday stone." The attraction is divided into upper and lower sections. Many travelers turn back after completing the upper section, missing the Silver Chain Waterfall in the lower part—where water cascades like silver chains into a funnel-shaped pool, the highlight of Tianxing Bridge. The Doupotang waterfall is located approx. 1 km upstream from the grand waterfall. With a width of over 100 m at its crest, the water spreads out smoothly like a beaded curtain. During the high-water season, its deep roar earns it the nickname "roaring waterfall." The scene of the four pilgrims leading their horse across the river in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West was filmed here. In summer and fall, the waterfalls are full and powerful, while in winter and spring, the flow becomes gentler, offering different viewing experiences. Nearby, visitors can also enjoy local snacks like sticky rice, love tofu, and Anshun spring rolls.

The stone pits and hollows scattered across the riverbed are considered remnants left by the impact and grinding of bedrock by Quaternary glacial meltwater approximately 2 to 3 million years ago. The potholes here vary greatly in size, with diameters reaching up to 15m and depths of approx. 10m, while the smallest are only the size of a button. They come in various shapes—some round like a full moon, others resembling gourds, peach hearts, plum blossoms, or melon seeds—and generally exhibit the typical characteristics of a "small mouth, large belly, and flat bottom." The grayish-white pits are embedded in the riverbed, and many contain pools of blue-green water that look like gems scattered across the valley under the sunlight. The glacial pothole cluster retains its primitive appearance, and sightseeing primarily involves hiking along the riverbed. The entire route is approx. 8km long and requires wading through water and climbing over rocks.

The Water Curtain Cave is located at a height of 40 to 47 meters above the Huangguoshu Waterfall. It is 134 meters long and consists of 6 cave windows, 5 cave halls, 3 cave springs and 6 passages. This is the real scene where the 1986 version of "Journey to the West" filmed the scene of Sun Wukong flying into the Water Curtain Cave. The stalactites in the cave are of different shapes. You can also look out through the waterfall curtain from different positions and enjoy the double-track dynamic rainbow on the Rhinoceros Pond, which is very wonderful. Photography suggestions At the viewing platform outside the Water Curtain Cave, you can take a panoramic view of the waterfall. With the waterfall as the background, the characters stand sideways or with their backs to the body, which can capture the artistic conception. Upon entering the hot springs ♨️♨️, the welcome ceremony was full of sense 🈵. All the necessary hot spring supplies were arranged in an orderly manner. The water temperature was just right. After visiting Huangguoshu, soaking in the hot springs was a unique experience and completely relieved any fatigue. The warm little snacks made the tiredness after the hot springs so sweet and heartwarming. The arrangements were perfect. I especially appreciate the service of Chen Pingmei and Ding Shuangshuang who always kept smiling. When I saw their smiles, the tiredness was instantly gone.
