Things to do in Sapporo

Sapporo is located on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, and stands out with its grid-like city layout and Western-style architecture, which is a legacy of 19th-century urban planning during the Meiji era. Sapporo knows how to do winter right. When the snow falls, ski resorts buzz to life and the Sapporo Snow Festival turns downtown into a glowing world of ice and creativity. Some of the best things to do in Sapporo include catching sweeping views from the Sapporo TV Tower, strolling through Odori Park, and, of course, sipping a cold glass of Sapporo beer, brewed right where it all began.

Reviews: Hokkaido Winter Classic 1-day Tour: Asahiyama Zoo + Shirahige Waterfall + Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike) + Forest Elf Terrace
Guest user2026-01-20
The itinerary was well-planned, and our tour guide, Bingbing, was incredibly kind. At the Asahikawa Zoo stop, she personally led us to the penguin parade area, where we found a great viewing spot. Along the way, she also recommended other attractions and local delicacies. The weather was fantastic today, and we visited all the attractions, plus the tour guide gave us 5 to 10 minutes more time than usual. We enjoyed local cuisine and bought some souvenirs we liked. So happy! 😃

Reviews: Hokkaido + Asahiyama Zoo + Ningle Terrace + Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike) 1-day tour|Group of 9–13 people available

This trip was fantastic. First, our tour guide, Xiaoyu, was incredibly patient, helping every tourist who needed assistance. Throughout the trip, she tirelessly shared many interesting local history and cultural stories, which I, as a tourist, listened to attentively and found very helpful and informative. She also patiently guided us through the meeting points and ensured safety, providing excellent service. Second, the driver's skills were superb. Despite the challenging driving conditions in the icy and snowy conditions, he still managed to get everyone to our destination safely and on time. Thank you both for your hard work; the entire trip was excellent, and I would definitely choose Xiaoyu again next time.

Reviews: Hokkaido Noboribetsu Hell Valley + Lake Toya + Showa Shinzan Day Trip (Japan)
Guest user2025-11-18
I joined the tour on November 15th. The bus was almost full, with people from many different countries in the group, but it was always our compatriots who were late. Sigh. Our tour guide, Vivi, was very good. She had to speak the exact same thing in three languages, which must have been quite tiring. The stops at each attraction were short. It was pretty much a quick visit, but there was no other way, as it was too far and time was tight. The weather was so-so this time, mostly overcast, but during a brief break in the sunshine, I saw half of Mount Yotei and immediately took a picture.

Reviews: Hokkaido Biei Best 5 Photo Spots Magical Winter Day Tour (From Sapporo, No Early Rush)
Anonymous user2026-02-18
Great spots, beautiful nature and we really liked the late departure as it didn't feel rushed in the morning, plenty of time for brekkie before travelling. Our guide Baku was very good. It would have been better if he was explaining a bit more about Hokkaido, the places we visited like why it is called the ceramic tree and overall the culture of Hokkiado.

Reviews: Hokkaido Lake Tƍya Snowmobile + Noboribetsu Jigokudani Valley + Lakeside Farm 1-day Tour
Divatan2026-02-08
I chose to visit Jigokudani (Hell Valley) as my last stop, then checked directly into Ryƫnoya, a hot spring resort in Noboribetsu. I left my large luggage at my hotel in Sapporo and only brought a small suitcase to Noboribetsu, having informed customer service beforehand. They were wonderful; they left our luggage there for free. The tour guide was also very friendly and professional, and the entire itinerary was well-organized. The snowmobile ride at Lake Toya was amazing, the pie at Lake Hill was delicious, the lake view from the observation deck was beautiful, and the bear ranch was definitely worth seeing. Jigokudani was spectacular. Finally, the tour guide noticed that the bus from my hotel passed by and let us park there for free, so we didn't have to drag our luggage through Jigokudani. Thank you so much to the tour guide and driver! Overall, this tour was very worthwhile. The tour guide informed us of the pick-up location the night before, and the customer service was excellent and responded quickly. It was a very clear and helpful tour, highly recommended. Tour guide Xiaoyu was fantastic!

Reviews: 1-day tour to Hokkaido Forest Elf Terrace + Asahiyama Zoo + Shirahige Waterfall + Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike)

Bingbing, our tour guide, gave excellent explanations and recommended delicious food at every attraction along the way. The accompanying Chinese driver was also very steady, and I didn't feel carsick even on the many mountain roads.
