Since it was a road trip, the timing was flexible, and we didn't plan any specific itinerary. We arrived at the hotel around noon on the first day, which was easy to find, right at the intersection. The room was spacious and quite nice. In the afternoon, we went to Dayangshan Park, which was provided by the hotel. There wasn't much to do in winter, so we only climbed halfway up the mountain before returning to the hotel to soak in the hot springs. There were very few pools, but not many tourists, and the staff were very friendly. We ate at several local farmhouses, and the food was quite good.

Sun Island is quite large, with fewer Chinese tourists and more Europeans and Americans. The water is clear, but the snorkeling conditions around it aren't great. It's a bit far from the airport island; you need to take a speedboat after a domestic flight. The buffet is mainly Western food, which might not suit Chinese tastes. I went during what should have been the dry season, but it rained continuously, which was quite unpleasant. The room facilities are average. The beach villas are really, really basic, while the water villas are okay. I snorkeled near the water villas but didn't see many fish, and it was a bit cold due to the continuous rain, so I didn't go into the water much. I wouldn't recommend this island if you have high expectations for snorkeling. Although the island is large, it's very quiet. There are shark and manta ray feeding shows at the pier in the evening. The local staff were quite nice, perhaps because there are relatively few Asians around.
