This is a must-do 1-day tour during your trip to Shangri-La. If you visit Barag Dzong, you absolutely must book the Shambhala Pagoda tour as well. They have done an excellent job constructing the paths to allow you to comfortably view this fantastic natural beauty. The cost was absolutely worth it. For the Shambhala Pagoda, we traveled by bus over an altitude of 4,200 meters to reach the viewpoint; even though it was April, the landscape was completely covered in snow, which was wonderful. The Grand Canyon Plank Road trekking was a bit disappointing due to a lack of water, but the 2.5-kilometer one-way trek along the well-constructed decks was still enjoyable. It is a 1-day tour that takes almost a full day to see magnificent natural scenery.★

Balagezong Scenic Area is about a 1.5-hour drive from Shangri-La. Along the way, you can see the beautiful Grand Canyon scenery. Inside the scenic area, you can get up close to the snow-capped mountains and the Shangri-La Grand Canyon. The shuttle bus service within the scenic area is well-organized, making it a great day trip.
