Today, I led a student study tour to the Quanzhou Puppet Theater to see three classic plays: "Little Baldhead Goes Down the Mountain," "Daming Mansion," and "Fighting the Tiger." The experience far exceeded our expectations. This performance was not only a wonderful display of intangible cultural heritage, but also an immersive study course integrating moral education, aesthetics, and cultural heritage. "Little Baldhead Goes Down the Mountain" uses a lively puppet narrative to embody the Minnan spirit of "hard work, daring to win, down-to-earth, and diligent learning" into the little baldhead's adventurous journey. The play incorporates Quanzhou's historical relics and traditional cultural symbols, guiding students to reflect on the meaning of growth and the pursuit of knowledge. "Daming Mansion," which followed, showcased loyalty and cooperation through the story of a Liangshan hero's witty rescue of his friend. "Fighting the Tiger," through the iconic scene of Wu Song fighting a tiger, conveyed courage and responsibility. Together, these two plays embody the value system of integrating "wisdom, virtue, and courage." Particularly valuable was the puppetry experience provided by the theater. Students personally experimented with manipulating string and hand puppets, gradually mastering the basic movements from a beginner's perspective. They truly experienced the artisan spirit of "one minute on stage, ten years of hard work off stage." Many students remarked, "I never knew it took so much skill to bring puppets to life!" The theater's intangible cultural heritage-themed lighting, a looping broadcast of CCTV reports, and traditional Minnan snacks further enhanced the cultural immersion. Through artistic inspiration, hands-on experiences, and a vibrant environment, this performance transformed traditional culture from a mere concept in books into a living, tangible, and relatable legacy. Students not only experienced aesthetic delight but also deepened their understanding and appreciation of intangible cultural heritage through the experience, truly achieving the goal of "education through entertainment, learning through fun."
