Enjoy a 5-hour transfer in a comfortable airconditioned vehicle to the Black River Safari, located along the south coast of Jamaica, in the parish of St. Elizabeth. Experience a 4 miles boat ride on Jamaica's longest navigable river, through Jamaica's largest wetland area, known as the Black River lower morass. You'll be picked up at your Montego Bay hotels by your VIP Tours Jamaica driver/guide, for a scenic drive through the mountains and along the coastline to Black River. Here, you will board a boat for your guided tour.
Experience this 45 minutes-1 hour ride on a slow-moving covered boat along the river. Learn about the area's ecology and history from the experienced captain/guide. See many of the more than 100 bird, animals, and plant species that have been recorded in the morass. Meet a few of the friendly crocodiles as your boat captain calls them by name. They'll swim up to your boat and you pet them and feed them. You may also see fishermen spearfishing in the river, setting shrimp traps or retrieving their shrimp traps in the river alongside the crocodiles.
Explore the wetland's vegetation. See the different species of mangrove, palm, ferns, water lilies, among other plants that grow along the banks of the river. Have your camera or phones ready for pictures as your captain slows or comes to a complete stop for you to take pictures of the beautiful flora and fauna. Get up-close pictures of the different sizes of the crocodiles in their territory as the captain call them up to the boat. If you are a brave person, you can pet them and have your picture taken.
Enjoy a ride through "Lovers Lane", created by the Airial roots of the mangroves on both sides of the riverbanks, which forms an arch over the river. This gives the area shade from the sun. Entering "lovers' lane", your captain will shut down the boat engine. This is for you to enjoy the quietness of the area with only different species of birds chirping. You will feel the cool breeze blowing as you drift slowly through the well shaded area down the river for a few minutes before turning around to head back.
On your way back, you may see other crocodiles you missed going. You may also see other species of migratory birds or different animals that you missed.
At the end of the boat tour, you will be taken to the crocodile nursery to see the baby crocs. Here you can hold them and take pictures while learning a few things about them. Your tour comes to an end after leaving the nursery and it's time to head back to your hotel. Lunch stops and rest stops are included along the way for both leg of the trip.
