Discover the stunning Nugget Point Lighthouse and its ocean views
Feel the thrill of exploring the rugged Catlins on a scenic day trip
Travel in comfort with a small group and expert local guide
Itinerary
Begin your adventure with a pickup from your accommodation (select locations) in Dunedin. Head south along the scenic coast, watching the landscape change as you leave the city and enter one of New Zealand's most untouched regions.

Take a short walk to the spectacular Nugget Point Lighthouse, perched above wave-battered sea stacks known as “The Nuggets.” Keep an eye out for seals sunning on the rocks and seabirds soaring above the ocean below.

Next, enjoy a quick and easy forest walk to the stunning multi-tiered Purakaunui Falls, one of the most photographed waterfalls in the country—and for good reason.

Stop in the peaceful Catlins village of Papatowai for lunch and to explore the wonderfully quirky Lost Gypsy Caravan, a handcrafted gallery of kinetic art and oddities that's sure to spark your imagination.

At Curio Bay, step back in time as you walk across the remains of a 180-million-year-old petrified forest (visible at low tide). You may also see endangered yellow-eyed penguins or Hector's dolphins nearby.

If tides allow, visit the Cathedral Caves, two dramatic sea caverns accessible via a short forest and beach walk (entry fee applies).

Make a short stop in Invercargill to stretch your legs.

Arrive in Te Anau in the early evening and get dropped off at your central accommodation. Nestled beside stunning Lake Te Anau and gateway to Fiordland, this welcoming town is your perfect base for exploring the national park or beginning your next adventure.
