I was incredibly lucky to meet our guide, Xiao Xu, in Shaoxing. I didn't have high expectations, but under her guidance, the entire trip was not only relaxing and enjoyable but also incredibly rewarding. She is a truly proactive, thoughtful, meticulous, and professional "treasure guide."
Xiao Xu not only knows the historical anecdotes of places like Shen Garden and Lu Xun's Former Residence like the back of her hand, but more importantly, she can bring those stories from books to life. In Shen Garden, she vividly recounted the story of Lu You and Tang Wan's poem "The Phoenix Hairpin," making the poignant beauty and regret seem almost tangible, deeply moving us. While on the covered boat, she proactively helped us capture unique perspectives from the shore. And at Sanwei Study and Baicao Garden, Lu Xun's ancestral home, the Zhu family residence, and the Liang family residence—the details were so rich that her guidance on the brick walls and tiles transported us back to that era.
Xiao Xu was like a caring companion, making this short two-hour trip incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling. I highly recommend everyone try it when visiting Shaoxing! 👍
