Daikanbo
One of the peaks in the outer rim mountain range northeast of Uchinomaki Onsen, standing at approximately 935 meters above sea level. With a 400-meter elevation difference from the Aso Valley (Aso city area) below, it serves as a representative scenic spot for panoramic views of Aso.
Strolling through the town in front of Aso Shrine
Famous for its rare horizontal approach path, the Aso shrine's tower gate stands at the end of the path. Both sides of the approach are lined with restaurants, sake shops, and souvenir stores, forming a lively "monzenmachi shopping street." Along the way, there are numerous natural spring water spots called "mizumoto," and the "mizumoto pilgrimage" activity, which involves visiting these springs while strolling, is highly popular among visitors.
Aso Crater Visit
(Aso Nakadake Crater 1)
Aso Caldera is renowned for its exposed lava landscapes, spanning 18 kilometers east to west and 25 kilometers north to south, ranking among the world's largest. At its heart lies the "Aso Gogaku" (Five Peaks of Aso), with Mount Nakadake remaining volcanically active to this day.
Note:
*Toxic volcanic gases (sulfur dioxide/SO₂) are present near the crater. Visitors with asthma, respiratory diseases, heart conditions, or those feeling unwell are prohibited from entering as it may be life-threatening.
*If the crater cannot be visited due to volcanic smoke restrictions or other reasons, the sightseeing time at Kusasenri will be extended.
Kusasenri Beach
One of Aso's iconic attractions, standing at approximately 1,100 meters above sea level. From here, visitors can admire the spectacular sight of Mount Nakadake's smoking crater. In summer, the area is lush with greenery, while in winter it transforms into a silvery wonderland! Each season offers distinct scenery, making it well worth a visit.
