It is an annual or perennial herbaceous plant with basal leaves arranged in a rosette and stem leaves that are generally alternate and lack stipules. The flowers are bisexual and radially symmetrical, with four petals arranged in a cross shape. There are typically six stamens, four long and two short, commonly referred to as "tetradynamous stamens." Between March and April, flowers bloom at the stem tips in racemes, with four sepals that are yellow-green and four petals that are yellow and cross-shaped. The fruit is a silique that splits open when mature in summer, releasing seeds that are purple-black or sometimes yellow. Rapeseed is valued for its wide adaptability, cold and drought resistance, and low soil requirements, making it an important crop for maximizing land use and economic development. It can be grown as a sole crop, intercropped, or transplanted as seedlings.
