2:00 PM Visit Shaoshi Que, one of the three que structures in Songshan, located near Songshan Shaolin Scenic in Dengfeng, Henan Province. This ancient stone gate structure holds significant historical, cultural, and artistic value. Built during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 AD) as part of a ceremonial gate tower, it marks the entrance to Shaoshi Mountain, a sacred peak of Songshan in Chinese culture. Que structures were ceremonial gate towers in ancient China used to mark important sites like temples, palaces, or sacred mountains, symbolizing authority, spirituality, and the connection between heaven and earth. Together with the other Songshan que structures (Taishi Que and Qimu Que), Shaoshi Que is part of the "Historic Monuments of Dengfeng in the Center of Heaven and Earth," inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010.
3:00 PM Take the bus to Songye Temple Pagoda
3:30 PM Visit Songye Temple Pagoda, built in 523 AD during the Northern Wei Dynasty, one of the oldest existing brick pagodas in China. The pagoda is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture, featuring a unique dodecagonal design. It is a symbol of Buddhism's integration into Chinese culture.
