Aveiro, located on the Atlantic coast in northwestern Portugal, is often referred to as the Venice of Portugal. On the canals of Aveiro, you can often see a type of beautifully painted boat with a very special name—the moliceiro. These boats are about 10 to 15 meters long, with a sharply upturned bow forming an elegant curve. Each moliceiro features unique paintings on its bow by the boat owner. As their slender silhouettes glide slowly through the blue waterways and under curved arches, propelled by boatmen with poles, they resemble graceful swans leaving serene ripples in their wake, swaying with the dreamy play of light and shadow.
