In Nasugbu, Batangas on Luzon Island, there lies a forgotten beauty—Fortune Island, a serene destination that seasoned travelers should experience.
Fortune Island is located in Nasugbu, Batangas, 14 km off the western coastline. Owned by former Batangas Governor Antonio Leviste, this resort was lavishly developed in the mid-1990s to mimic the Acropolis of Athens, Greece.
The resort was exclusively open to the upper class of the Philippines, featuring a swimming pool, clubhouse, villas, basketball court, and a helipad. However, due to the lack of a natural freshwater source, maintaining the resort proved extremely difficult, leading to its closure in 2006. Ravaged by typhoons, it has now become a stunning ruin. Yet, thanks to the island's pristine scenery, it has become a popular spot for young Filipino backpackers and couples taking pre-wedding photos. The western side boasts a 30-meter cliff, while the eastern side features rolling sand dunes. Along the way, there are white sandy beaches, and atop the dunes stands a rest house, now dilapidated from years of neglect. Nevertheless, it remains an excellent location for camping and 1-day tours.
Fortune Island is an island in the sea, accessible only by boat. After changing into swimwear at the resort, board our signature tuk-tuk crab boat to set off for Fortune Island. The boat ride takes about 1 hr, and from afar, you'll spot the sandy beach and Greek-style ruins.
The resort boasts sandy beaches with waves, featuring volcanic ash-like sand that's fine and soft, stretching far into the sea—ideal for leisurely walks, wave-chasing, or striking poses for stunning photos. After collecting shells and corals, diving and snorkeling enthusiasts can join the exciting diving and snorkeling activities. The advantage of this island far from the mainland is its exceptionally clean and crystal-clear water. The diving platform is a simple step where you can jump from a height of 3-5 meters, experiencing the thrill of weightlessness and the exhilaration of hitting the water! Underwater, schools of fish await—just scatter some breadcrumbs, and you'll be instantly surrounded by a large group of fish!
