Essential preparations before departure
1. Apply for the entry QR code: Fill in the info on the official website within 72 hours before departure. Make sure to check the hotel address accurately in advance, especially the postal code! Errors may delay redemption. Take a screenshot and save it on your phone immediately after completion.
Don't stroll after landing: Follow the crowd and walk briskly after getting off the plane! Arriving at immigration earlier can save you at least half an hour in line, proven effective.
Post-arrival procedure: Just follow the instructions!
1. Look for the "arrival" sign and redeem at the machine.
After disembarking, follow the Japanese "arrival" signs closely. You'll soon see a row of white QR code verification machines. Scan the QR code from your phone at the machine, then place your passport on the sensor area as prompted and complete verification by fingerprint registration.
Key point: After redeeming, the machine will issue a receipt with letters a/b/c/d. Keep it safe as you'll need it later!
Take the small train to customs
After redeeming, turn around and you'll see the small train to customs. Just queue up to board. The ride is short. After getting off, continue following the "arrivals" signs to avoid going the wrong way.
3. Going through customs: No photos! Match the letters!
Photography is strictly prohibited in the customs area, so remember this rule! Find the lane marked with the corresponding letter (a/b/c/d) on your receipt, present your passport and receipt, and the officer will quickly verify the information before letting you through without further questions.
4. Collect baggage + exit
After clearing immigration, go downstairs to find the baggage carousel. Your luggage will be neatly placed on the conveyor belt. Just check the screen for your flight number, no need to rush or push.
After collecting your luggage, follow the exit signs to the 2nd floor where you'll find the ICOCA card sales point. Once purchased, take the Nankai Namba line directly to the city center for a smooth journey.
