Qingyan Ancient Town
One of Guizhou's Four Great Ancient Towns and a national 5A-level scenic area, Qingyan Ancient Town was first built in the 11th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1378) and named for its grey bluestone structures. Boasting well-preserved Ming and Qing ancient architecture, the town features crisscrossing lanes and scattered stone houses with bluestone walls.
Highlights include Dingguang Gate (the town's iconic southern gate), North Back Street (a filming location for the movie The Missing Gun), the former residence of Zhao Yijiong – Guizhou's top imperial examination scholar, and the Wanshou Palace. It blends diverse religious cultures and Tunpu culture, and is a great place to try local delicacies like braised pork knuckle and rice porridge with rice cakes.
Tianhe Pool Scenic Area
A national 4A-level scenic resort, Tianhetan is nestled in Shiban Town of Huaxi District, Guiyang, covering a total area of 15 square kilometers. It combines the grandeur of Huangguoshu Waterfall, the wonder of Dragon Palace and the grace of Huaxi Scenic Area, earning it the reputation of "a condensed bonsai of Guizhou's mountains and waters".
The resort is divided into three parts: the water cave, the dry cave and the outer scenic area. Stretching over 1,000 meters, the water cave features stunning karst landscapes such as stalactites. The three-tiered dry cave is home to Naihe Bridge, a natural stone bridge. Other highlights include the Wolong Waterfall and Mengcao Garden, the former residence of Wu Zhongfan, a renowned poet of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Thrilling activities like high-altitude gliding are also available for a unique experience.
