Synopsis
In the early years of the Republic of China, as domestic turmoil swept the nation, Wuhan—a vital transportation hub connecting nine provinces—became a hotbed of unrest. Liu Shengxiang, the frugal yet influential "real estate tycoon" of Hankou, seized the occasion of his daughter Liu Yingxin's wedding to son-in-law Ding Liren to gather prominent figures from all walks of life. Their purpose: to discuss fundraising efforts for war-torn Hankou. The event unfolded with a series of unexpected "episodes." This innovative theatrical production employs cinematic montage techniques, weaving "flashback" sequences into the wedding narrative to reveal the past stories of Liu Shengxiang, patriarch of Hankou's "Golden Family," and his beloved daughter Liu Yingxin. Audiences will glimpse the vibrant cosmopolitan flair of 1930s "Oriental Chicago"-era Hankou, witness the extraordinary life of a Wuhan-born national entrepreneur—a man of humble origins, remarkable wisdom, deep loyalty, and unwavering commitment to family and country—and discover the love and ideals shared by Ding Liren and Liu Yingxin, emblematic youth of a turbulent era.
