This tour was excellent. We walked to various points around the city centre (thankfully not a huge amount of walking, though, as York city centre is pretty small), and were told about macabre events in York's past and possible ghostly sightings at each location. The tour guide (Mackenzie?) was excellent and delivered the material in a very engaging way. I went with my cousin, who was visiting the UK from Australia over Christmas and New Year. I would definitely recommend this tour.

The best tour you can do in York. Alfred was incredibly knowledgeable and an outstanding storyteller. If you have limited time in York, this tour is an absolute must. I only wish history had been taught this way at schools. :)

The Deathly Dark Tour of York is hands-down one of the best things you can do in the city. Equal parts spine-chilling, hilarious and brilliantly informative, it manages to bring York’s grim history to life without ever taking itself too seriously. Our guide was outstanding, charismatic, knowledgeable, and perfectly paced, with just the right balance of genuine historical detail and dark humour. You’re not just told ghost stories; you’re immersed in the real (often gruesome) past of York, with tales of executions, plague, murder and mayhem delivered in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Even if you think you know York well, this tour reveals layers you’d never notice wandering the streets on your own. Atmospheric routes, clever storytelling, and moments that genuinely made us laugh out loud (and occasionally shiver). If you want a ghost tour that’s smart, entertaining, and memorable — not cheesy or gimmicky — this is the one. Would 100% do it again and recommend it to anyone visiting York. Brilliantly dark. Perfectly York. 👻🖤

My Wife and I booked to go on the Historical Gems Tour & Taste of York Chocolate on Thursday 12th Sept 2024. We can’t thank Sherlombo enough for an amazing and entertaining tour, he was not only incredibly knowledgable and professional, but also warm, entertaining and engaging. Even though there were only 4 people on the tour he kept in character the whole time, and played an excellent part. Sherlombo was an fantastic tour guide and can’t thank him enough for his time, and will definitely be booking more tours with yourselves next time we come to York or any of the major cities in the UK as this was great value for money.


