Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden
Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden is one of Romania's important botanical research and education bases. The park is managed by the University of Cluj and combines rich plant diversity, educational functions, and historical and cultural features. The botanical garden covers an area of approx. 14 hectares and is divided into several functional areas: Systematic botanical area: Displays knowledge of plant classification and systematics. Geographical botanical area: Displays plants by geographical region, such as the Mediterranean, Australia, etc. Economic botanical area: Displays plants with economic value, such as medicinal plants, spice plants, etc. Greenhouse area: Includes exhibition areas for tropical plants, tropical aquatic plants, palms, orchids, and succulents. In addition, there are some special views in the park: Japanese garden: Mimics traditional Japanese garden style, featuring streams, Japanese-style architecture, and bridges, creating a tranquil atmosphere. Roman garden: Displays Roman plants, such as wheat and grapes, reflecting Roman agricultural culture. Water tower: Built in 1923, the water tower also serves as an observation deck where visitors can overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire botanical garden. Bannfy Castle
Bannfy Castle is an aristocratic estate that blends Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical, and Neo-Gothic styles. Often hailed as the "Versailles of Transylvania," it carries the glorious memories of the Hungarian noble Bánffy family and has witnessed a cultural rebirth following war and abandonment. Bannfy Castle is spread across gentle slopes and flat land, surrounded by quiet villages and fields. The complex consists of a main building, wings, courtyards, and gardens, which, despite its grand scale, blends seamlessly into the pastoral environment, presenting a typical country palace atmosphere. Strolling through it, one can intuitively feel the layering of styles from different historical periods. Some areas that have not been fully restored retain traces of post-war abandonment, with damaged walls and vacant spaces creating a unique romantic ruin atmosphere, which contrasts with the restored sections.
