Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park was established as a national monument in 1916, designated as Lafayette National Park when it was upgraded to a national park in 1919, and renamed to its current name in 1929. The park is spread across three areas: Mt Desert Island, the Schoodic Peninsula, and Isle au Haut, with Mt Desert Island home to most of the major attractions. The Park Loop Road on the island connects rocky coastlines, coniferous forests, and granite peaks, passing by well-known attractions such as Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Jordan Pond, making it the main route for touring the core area. Cadillac Mountain is the highest point in the park and one of the highest peaks along the United States East Coast. The summit offers a panoramic view of the entire island and bay. The park also preserves a system of crushed-stone carriage roads built with donations from the Rockefeller family, dotted with numerous granite bridges, offering a unique experience for hiking or cycling.
