＂张家口堡（俗称：堡子里）景区＂位于张家口市桥西区中部，始建于明宣德四年（1429年），是张家口市市区的发祥地。张家口堡初建时为单纯屯兵的军堡，是明代长城防线上的重要军事驻军城堡，以＂武城＂之誉而雄冠北疆。随着＂北方丝绸之路＂一一张库大道的日益兴盛，它的军事功能逐渐被商业贸易功能所代替。清末民初时张家口堡形成了现有的十二街八巷格局，1918年商业贸易达到鼎盛，商号达到1600多家，张家口被称为＂华北第二商埠＂，张家口堡成为中外商贾聚集之地，是钱庄、票号、商行、洋行的集中区。堡内至今仍保存着478个明清时期修建的院落，堪称＂明清建筑博物馆＂。
