Hualin Temple Review

Hualin Temple, usually called Hualin Temple, is a thousand-year-old temple hidden in the streets and alleys of Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, Liwan District, Guangzhou. This is an important witness to Han Chinese Buddhism. At that time, there was no current sediment deposit on the Pearl River, and the shore was still the current location of Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. Damo from the west landed here, so here is called the beginning of the west, and since then in the west, that is, the current Hualin Temple began missionary, now the 8th line Hualin Temple Station is named close to here the subway station, Hualin Temple is currently slow to rebuilt.

Xilaichudi is a place name in the old town of Liwan, Guangzhou. It is located near Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street Square. The so-called Xilaichudi refers to the place where the Buddhist Damo ancestors came from the west and landed on the shore from here. It was on the shore of the Pearl River at that time. With time, the sand and mud were deposited. The Pearl River is now in the west bank of the sand.

华林寺位于广州市荔湾区下九路西来正街，始建于梁武帝普通八年（527年）。华林寺是中国佛教禅宗始祖菩提达摩中印文化交流地，广州佛教四大丛林之首。 华林寺前身是“西来庵”，达摩遵从师父自训谕，西来弘化禅宗妙旨，并于梁武帝普通年间从海上到达广州城外的珠江北岸（今下九路），“结草为庵”，潜心苦修。顺治十二年（1655年）首建大雄宝殿，次建楼阁堂庞察室，改“西来庵”为“华林寺”。华林寺的面积有3万平方米，由五百罗汉堂、舍利塔、达摩堂等建筑群组成。五百罗汉堂内，除供奉三宝佛外，还陈列着神态各异的泥塑五百罗汉像，其中有一尊意大利旅行家马可·波罗的木雕像。
