The Winter Palace Square (Palace Square) is the central square of St. Petersburg, surrounded by luxurious buildings from the Russian era. The north end of the square is the Baroque-style Winter Palace. The center of the square is built with Alexander columns of47.5 meters high, which was built to commemorate the victory of the 1812 rebellion against Napoleonic Wars.
