2026 Zagora Travel Guide: must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transport & travel experiences (updated in July)

Our accommodation for this trip was booked through Trip.com: 🏨Moroccan House Hotel Marrakech🏨 While the Merz Desert is famous in Morocco, we opted for the more easily accessible Zagora Desert this time. First, we visited the village of Ait Ben Haddou, a filming location for movies like Indiana Jones. Afterward, we had lunch, bought scarves for the desert, and received instructions on how to wear them. We arrived at the desert in the evening (we didn't get to see the sunset this time) and immediately boarded camels to head to our tent. Afterwards, we had dinner with the tour members in the city, followed by a campfire outside. During the campfire, the Berber people who were in charge of the tour played music for us. The next morning, we all had a light breakfast outside the tent and then rode camels back to the city. After that, we visited several souvenir shops selling rugs (?). You'll be asked for tips quite often at this point, so it's a good idea to have cash. I didn't have any cash and couldn't give tips, and I got a lot of flak! (laughs) It would be great if the tour guide told us how many times we'd be expected to tip! (laughs) It was my first time in the desert, and it was a wonderful, nostalgic experience.
