Yilan's Must-Visit Rice Food and Snack Factory 🍘 (Part 1) Turning Rice into an Amusement Park: A Five-Senses Journey at Su'ao's "One Meter"
#November Destinations 2025
If you're planning a family-friendly or relaxing day trip in Yilan, Yimit Rice & Snack Tourist Factory is a great place to combine snacks, water activities, and souvenir shopping all in one place. Admission is free, and it's open all day. The park features a cold spring foot bath, outdoor lawns, and walking trails, while the indoor area boasts dessert displays, a rice cracker wall, and a DIY workshop. A complete tour takes about half a day. Official information states: Open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, year-round, free admission, with one guided tour in the morning and one in the afternoon. Navigate to "No. 199, Xianghe Rd., Su'ao Township, Yilan County" to reach the entrance. Free parking is available within the park.
One place, two paces: first, explore the desserts, then enjoy the breeze.
Yimite is my favorite kind of tourist factory that offers both indoor and outdoor attractions and allows for leisurely exploration.
The indoor rhythm: Push open the door, and on the left is a freezer—strawberry mochi, daifuku, and other sweets arranged like jewels; on the right is a tasting area and various rice snack gift boxes. I like to slowly pick out a couple of daifuku as a snack later, then go to the shelf to find rice crackers/rice chips, tasting them while watching the production process explanations, which even children can understand. The notices inside also remind visitors: "Guided tours are held twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon," making it fun and engaging.
The outdoor rhythm: Passing through the glass door, you'll find a pebble path and shady trees at your feet, with water lilies growing on the surface of the pool; further in are everyone's favorite cold spring foot bath and a hand pump. In summer, sitting under an umbrella soaking your feet while watching the children chase each other on the grass, you really lose track of time. Many reviews mention that the cold spring pool is free to use and there's a pump experience nearby; some articles remind visitors that "for safety reasons, the pool is mainly for foot baths." Bring a small towel and a change of socks for a more relaxed experience.

A Little Background Story: Turning "Rice" into a Playful Brand
The core of Yimit is not just selling snacks, but making rice culture an understandable, experiential, and portable part of daily life. The park presents the evolution and production process of rice-based snacks through exhibition boards and pathways. A DIY workshop teaches you to make your own mochi or snow strawberry cake in 20-30 minutes (additional fee required, subject to on-site announcements). Outdoors, the park incorporates elements of Su'ao's carbonated cold springs, allowing visitors to experience a journey from taste to touch. This combination explains why many family/travel websites list it as their "first stop in Su'ao."

Following the Photos: My Half-Day at Yimit
① Entrance and Courtyard: Slow Down First
The arched entrance and wooden frame resemble a country bakery; the garden on the right has outdoor seating, where I love to sip a free red bean drink and browse my loot. The park's lawns, lotus pond, and treehouses create a very lived-in atmosphere, and you can even occasionally encounter performances or family activities. ② Dessert Counter: Grab your "to-eat for the day" items first.
I usually choose one fruit daifuku and one mochi. Freshly made, they have a chewy skin, fragrant filling, and moderate sweetness. If you find a seasonal item, the counter will clearly label it "for consumption today." For convenience, you can also simply take home a bag of mixed rice crackers.
③ DIY: 20-30 minutes of focused time.
DIY mochi/snow strawberry biscuits are the most popular. The cost is separate; you can register on-site or make a reservation by phone. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult. The children's faces are filled with pride as they spread cream like snow mountains and hide strawberries inside. The finished products can be eaten immediately or taken in the car for an afternoon snack.
④ Cold Spring Foot Bath: Cool down from the travel heat.
The delicate bubbles from the cold spring run down to your ankles, like the sea breeze of Su'ao carrying away all the heat. The nearby foot bath pump is so fun that children don't want to leave. Reminder: The cold spring pool is primarily for foot baths; please save swimming for Su'ao Cold Spring Park or other well-equipped facilities.

Itinerary Proposal: Make Half a Day Feel Like a Full Day
• Morning | A Combo of Sightseeing and Factory Visit: First, indulge in drawing at the Crayon Castle (Address: No. 500, Haishan West Road, Su'ao Town), then head to Yimit for lunch and snacks.
• Afternoon | Cold Spring Extension: If you want to actually swim, head to Su'ao Cold Spring Park (Address: No. 6-4, Lengquan Road, Su'ao Town; admission fee available, facilities complete).
• Evening | Hot Spring and Good Sleep: To maximize your stay, consider either the Yanbo Grand Hotel Su'ao Four Seasons Hot Spring Resort or the Longshanlin Su'ao Hot and Cold Spring Resort Hotel (one night with two meals included), combining cold spring and hot spring experiences (travel articles often list these two as representative accommodations in Su'ao).

My Little Real Moment: Arriving after the rain, the courtyard still smelled of wood. I sat under the umbrella, cutting open a mango daifuku. Inside, the flesh was moist and creamy, the mochi skin stretching into thin strands with my fingertips—like squeezing summer into a bite. My child played with a water pump nearby, water droplets bouncing and splashing onto their calves, their laughter washing away the fatigue of the journey. Before leaving, I grabbed two boxes of rice crackers and got in the car. The navigation switched back to National Highway 5. The fog on the windows hadn't cleared yet, and I was already thinking about what flavor of snow strawberry daifuku I'd make next time. 🙂
