Wengen travel guide and discussion

Stepping out of the train into Wengen feels like arriving in a classic alpine sanctuary suspended high above the roaring valley floors. Tucked away on a sun-drenched terrace beneath the monumental peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, this charming car-free village is world-famous for its traditional wooden chalets, flower-draped balconies, and sweeping views of the deep Lauterbrunnen valley far below. Strolling quietly down the pristine alpine paths in the crisp morning air, with the sound of cowbells echoing across the meadows and the massive white wall of the Bernese Alps towering overhead, was an awe-inspiring and soul-restoring experience. 🏔️🌼 . 📅 What I experienced · Riding the Wengernalp Railway: Taking the historic red cogwheel train winding up the steep slopes through alpine meadows and pine forests, offering breathtaking panoramic views at every turn. · Hiking the Kleine Scheidegg Trail: Trekking along the high-altitude trails directly beneath the towering, glaciated north face of the Eiger, surrounded by dramatic peaks and sweeping alpine vistas. · Exploring the Car-Free Village: Wandering through the peaceful streets of Wengen, where the absence of cars leaves the air remarkably pure and the atmosphere entirely tranquil. . 🏨 Where I stayed · I stayed in a traditional, family-run wooden chalet hotel with a wide balcony facing the massive snow-capped mountains. Waking up to the crisp morning air and watching the first rays of sunrise strike the peak of the Jungfrau was absolute serenity. 🛏️☕ . 🍴 My culinary highlights · Swiss alpine cuisine is hearty, comforting, and deeply satisfying after a long day of hiking. I savored a traditional, bubbling pot of cheese fondue made with local Gruyère and Emmental cheeses, served with cubed bread and boiled potatoes, paired with a crisp Swiss white wine. 🫕🍷 . 📌 My tips for visiting · Embrace the Car-Free Village: Wengen is entirely pedestrianized and accessible only by train from Lauterbrunnen, so leave your car parked in the valley garage and enjoy the peaceful, quiet streets. · Start Mountain Hikes Early: Alpine weather in the Bernese Oberland can shift rapidly by the afternoon, bringing sudden clouds or rain to the peaks, so starting your hikes in the early morning ensures clear views. · Ride the Jungfraujoch Railway: Take the connecting train all the way up through the mountain tunnel to Europe's highest railway station at Jungfraujoch for an unbelievable look at the Aletsch Glacier. 📸🎒 . #Wengen #BerneseOberland #SwitzerlandTravel #VisitSwitzerland #TravelDeep #SwissAlps #CarFreeVillage #BucketList #ExploreSwitzerland #TravelDiaries

It feels less like a destination and more like stepping into a real-life fairytale. 🌊 Why Lauterbrunnen Is So Special The first thing you'll notice is the sound of waterfalls echoing through the valley. Every direction offers a different postcard view—green meadows, traditional Swiss houses, towering cliffs, and waterfalls cascading into the valley below. Unlike busy cities, time slows down here, making it one of the most peaceful places in Switzerland. ✨ Top Things To Do 💦 Visit Staubbach Falls The iconic Staubbach Falls is the symbol of Lauterbrunnen. At nearly 300 meters high, it is one of Europe's highest free-falling waterfalls. On sunny days, the mist often creates beautiful rainbows. It's only a short walk from the train station. 🚠 Explore Mürren & Wengen Lauterbrunnen is the perfect gateway to two of Switzerland's most beautiful mountain villages. · Mürren – a peaceful, car-free village with spectacular Alpine hiking trails. · Wengen – famous for its traditional Swiss charm and breathtaking mountain scenery. Some places look beautiful in photos. Lauterbrunnen looks even more magical in real life. The moment I stepped out of the train station, I was surrounded by towering cliffs, wooden Swiss chalets, green meadows, and waterfalls cascading from hundreds of metres above. It felt like walking into a real-life fairytale. Nestled in one of Switzerland's most beautiful valleys, Lauterbrunnen is often called the "Valley of 72 Waterfalls." Everywhere you look, there's another waterfall flowing down the dramatic cliffs, creating one of the most breathtaking landscapes I've ever seen. The most famous waterfall here is Staubbach Falls, which drops nearly 300 metres and can even be seen from the village centre. On sunny days, the mist creates tiny rainbows, making the entire valley feel almost unreal. 📝 My Experience I spent the afternoon simply wandering around the village with no fixed itinerary—and honestly, that was the best decision. Every corner looked like a postcard. Traditional wooden houses decorated with flowers, cows grazing peacefully in open fields, mountain peaks rising in the background, and waterfalls everywhere. It was one of those places where you naturally slow down and enjoy the moment. If you have more time, Lauterbrunnen is also the perfect base for exploring Wengen, Mürren, Grindelwald, Jungfraujoch, and the surrounding Bernese Alps. Whether you're visiting in summer with vibrant green landscapes or winter when everything is covered in snow, the scenery is unforgettable. 📍 Travel Tips 🚆 Easily accessible by train from Interlaken. 💧 Don't miss Staubbach Falls and Trümmelbach Falls. 🥾 Walking through the village is completely free and one of the best experiences. 📸 Visit in the early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer crowds. ⏰ I recommend spending at least half a day here, though you could easily stay overnight to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. 💡 Why You Should Visit I've travelled to many beautiful places in Switzerland, but Lauterbrunnen remains one of my absolute favourites. It's peaceful, scenic, and feels untouched by time. If you're planning a Swiss itinerary, don't just pass through—slow down, take a walk, and let the beauty of Lauterbrunnen surprise you. Sometimes, the most unforgettable moments are simply watching waterfalls flow through one of the most beautiful valleys on Earth. 🇨🇭💙 #Lauterbrunnen #Switzerland #SwissAlps #StaubbachFalls #BerneseOberland #Interlaken #JungfrauRegion #TravelSwitzerland #EuropeTravel #BeautifulDestinationss #NatureLovers #HiddenGem #ScenicViews #TravelPhotography

Head straight to the fairy-tale Lauterbrunnen Waterfall Canyon early in the morning 🏞️ Recommended hiking route: Walk through the valley floor of Lauterbrunnen village as far as you can; when tired, find the nearest bus stop and take the bus to the Stechelberg cable car station → take the cable car to the village of Mürren (elevation 1650 meters). On the right side of the cable car's upper station, you can overlook the breathtaking sight of 72 waterfalls cascading down✨ 🚠 Second stop: Mürren → Allmendhubel Flower Terrace About 2 hours round trip on foot On this path known as "the most beautiful flower trail in the Alps," you will see wildflowers blooming all over the hills💐 and capture the iconic trio of snowy peaks: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau in one frame📸 🌼 Third stop: Wengen Return to Lauterbrunnen train station; trains run every half hour, and it takes 12 minutes to reach Wengen. Sit on the right side to photograph the canyon scenery. From Wengen station, walk back 5 minutes to the classic train photo spot, then walk down along the sloped railing to the opposite side of the train tracks for more canyon views. The village is at 1274 meters elevation, facing the majestic Jungfrau From May to August, the entire hillside is covered with flowers, making you feel like you're in a fairy tale🧚‍♀️ ✨Tips: 1. It is recommended to wear outdoor hiking shoes 2. Bring sunscreen and a windbreaker

The second day was clear, followed by three days of rain. The rain started to ease by the time we reached Fürst Mt. The scenery in Switzerland depends on the weather, so I recommend coming in summer for the best views! [🗣️Random Comment] If you have a tight schedule, I recommend entering from Zurich and The Lucerne-Lungern-Brien-Grindelwald-First Mountain-Wengen-Speisen route is a bit too far and might cause delays. First Mountain is a must-do! 🚲 Both mountain biking and go-karting are fun, and the views from both are breathtaking! We woke up early, arriving at 8:20 AM, and only had a 20-minute wait for the go-kart. There was hardly any queue for bikes. Switzerland is very safe, or rather, it's very sparsely populated. We spent a long time by Lake Brienz, with hardly any tourists. 🚢 It felt like life should be like this there! Dreaming, gazing at the lake without thinking about the future. Wow! For Chinese in Switzerland, you must try Co-op's roast chicken! It's one of the most delicious restaurants. #europetrip #switzerland #wengen Visiting Wengen in autumn felt like stepping into a dream. Strolling through the peaceful village, we listened to the gentle sound of cowbells echoing in the crisp mountain air. Beautiful alpine village nestled in the mountains with an amazing view of the Jungfrau valley and Lauterbrunnen down below. Taking the train up to Wengen will guarantee you a lovely view of Lauterbrunnen. The village has shops, attractions and amenities within walking distance. Though, if you do decide to get a resort/hotel further up, be sure to ask for shuttle cars, the upwards slopes are no joke. Our hotel had a lovely view of the cable car rides up to Männlichen, the street below and at night- if you’re willing to stand in the 14 degrees cold (even in summer) you can get a good picture of the night sky! Of course, we couldn’t stay in Wengen without visiting Männlichen and her famous Royal Walk- a short hike of 1.7km, with elevations up to 80-120m up/down, grants you a truly breathtaking panoramic view. ((the gravel paths can be a bit slippery so be careful on the way down)) The trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg was an overall downhill walk with a view of Grindelwald down below and the snow capped mountains. But before you embark on this trail be sure to either get something to eat or drink (and the WC of course) at Männlichen as it is quite a long walk (about 4.7km). Near the midpoint you can see Eiger! A truly memorable walk with amazing scenery of the town below and mountains all around us. Truly a scenic paradise with plenty of activities to do, whether you prefer to simply enjoy the views or try out some of their more thrilling activities. It was my first time visiting Switzerland but certainly won’t be the last!#switzerland #summervacation #nature #alps

Get here by train! We came via Basel and just enjoyed the scenic views from the huge train windows. Lake, villages, mountains, you won’t want to close your eyes! Coming here in early autumn, we escaped the crowds and could explore First, Eiger, and Jungfraujoch with ease and little wait time. The mountains are magnificent all thru the year! The colours of the landscape will change and hiking to the Balchapsee is an experience in itself. Discovering WCs in the middle of nowhere, up in the mountains, complete with toilet tissue is something only the Swiss can guarantee! There are many hotels in this little village and all are within walking distance of the train station. We stayed at the Eiger Aparthotel as we wanted to prepare our own meals to save cost. Bookings come with daily afternoon tea and the variety of cakes, teas and coffees were an absolute treat! There are many cafes around for fondue and all sorts of local delights. We opted to explore the two supermarkets for raw ingredients and cooked up our own dinners at a fraction of the cost of eating out. Do check out the different yogurt flavours, types of cheese, and cured meats too! As it is a tourist destination, you can get souvenirs and major brands here. There is a post office (to send postcards) and some banks if you need forex. My #2023travelwish is to drop by this beautiful place again in the SUMMER and take in the wonders of creation ❤️ #2023travelwish #swiss #grindelwald #discoveralps #budgettravel

Hello everyone! ❤ Today, I'd like to share with you all a collection of photos of the fairytale village of WENGEN in Switzerland. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to share with you all my journey of venturing out into the wider world. Wengen truly is a fairytale village; the air is so fresh. I was absolutely captivated by it. If you're visiting Lauterbrunnen, be sure to take the train to this village perched on the mountainside... The scenery is so beautiful that I didn't dare take too many pictures, I just stood behind the camera and interacted with the scenery. 😬 Thank you to the group admin for approving the post. #wengen #lauterbrunnen

📍⛰️Wengen is located on a sunny hillside sheltered from the wind at the foot of the Jungfrau, 1,274 meters above sea level, 400 meters above the Lauderbenner Valley. This small town exudes a quaint and traditional atmosphere. Because cars are not allowed to enter, it makes people feel particularly peaceful and pure. It is a wonderful holiday resort, especially suitable for family travel👪📸️🤩 From Wengen, visitors can easily reach the main hiking destinations in the Jungfrau Region. #SwissTravelPhotos #Switzerland #wengen #Overseas Travel#Hiking

Watch the Jungfrau change from white to gold, then pink and finally blue as the evening arrives. No rushing. Just Alpine life. ❄️ DAY 2 — WHERE THE RAILWAY MEETS THE GLACIER Take the spectacular mountain railway route: Wengen → Kleine Scheidegg → Jungfraujoch The journey itself is part of the experience. At Kleine Scheidegg, trains meet beneath some of the most dramatic peaks in the region before continuing toward Jungfraujoch — Top of Europe. Expect: 🚞 Alpine railway 🏔️ High mountain views ❄️ Glacier landscapes 🧊 Ice Palace ☁️ Clouds below 🔭 Sphinx Observatory This is the day to experience the Alps at their most powerful and otherworldly. 🌿 DAY 3 — ABOVE THE MEADOWS Head toward Männlichen for one of the most beautiful Alpine walking experiences. Take the cable car and follow the Royal Walk, surrounded by wildflowers and panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. 🥾 Alpine trails 🌸 Wildflower meadows 🚠 Cable cars ☁️ Clouds below 🏔️ Endless mountain views The best part? There are some places where the journey is almost as memorable as the destination. For me, Jungfraujoch was one of them. I had seen countless photos of the Swiss Alps before coming here, but nothing really prepared me for the feeling of watching the landscape slowly change from green valleys to a completely different world of snow and mountains. 🏔️ This wasn't just a mountain trip. It felt like a journey from Switzerland's countryside into the heart of the Alps. 🚆 1. The Journey Is Part of the Experience Getting to Jungfraujoch is not simply about reaching the top. The journey itself is one of the highlights. 🚆 From the beautiful Jungfrau Region, the train climbs higher and higher, passing alpine villages, green meadows and dramatic mountain scenery. As the altitude increases, the landscape gradually changes. 🌿 Green valleys become rocky mountains. 🏔️ Mountains become covered in snow. ❄️ And suddenly, everything outside the window looks completely different. That transition was one of my favorite parts of the experience. 🏔️ 2. Jungfraujoch — Top of Europe When I finally arrived at Jungfraujoch, the first thing I noticed was the scale of the mountains. Everything felt enormous. The snow, the surrounding peaks and the huge Aletsch Glacier create a landscape that is difficult to appreciate from photographs alone. ❄️ The famous Sphinx Observatory offers one of the best viewpoints, with panoramic views across the surrounding Alps. Standing there, surrounded by snow and mountains, was one of those moments when I simply stopped talking and looked around. ❄️ 3. A Completely Different World Inside Jungfraujoch, there are also several attractions worth exploring. 🧊 Ice Palace — walk through tunnels carved into the glacier. 🏔️ Sphinx viewpoint — panoramic Alpine views. ❄️ Alpine Sensation — an immersive experience connecting the history and development of Jungfraujoch. But honestly, my favorite part was still being outside. Even when the temperature was cold, I didn't want to rush back indoors. The feeling of standing in the snow with the Alps surrounding me was the memory I wanted to take home. 🌄 4. Don't Ignore the Villages Below One mistake would be to think that Jungfraujoch is the only reason to visit this region. It isn't. The journey becomes even more special when combined with the villages and valleys below. 🌿 Lauterbrunnen feels like a fairytale valley, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and waterfalls. 🚞 Wengen offers beautiful mountain scenery without the need for a car. 🌸 Grindelwald is another wonderful base for exploring the Alps, with spectacular views in almost every direction. For me, the contrast was what made the trip memorable: green valleys below, snow-covered mountains above. 📸 5. Take Your Time With the Views Jungfraujoch is one of those places where it's tempting to spend the whole time taking photos. 📸 I definitely did that. But after a while, I put my camera away and simply watched the mountains. The clouds moved across the peaks, sunlight appeared and disappeared, and the scenery kept changing. That's something I learned in Switzerland: Sometimes the best photograph is the one you take after you've stopped taking photographs. 💡 My Jungfraujoch Tips 🎟️ Book ahead: Popular train journeys can get busy, especially during peak travel periods. 🌤️ Check the weather: Clear weather makes a huge difference to the mountain views. 🧥 Bring layers: Even if the valley feels comfortable, Jungfraujoch can be extremely cold. 👟 Wear good shoes: Snow and icy surfaces can make walking uncomfortable. 📸 Go early: Earlier departures can help you avoid some of the busiest periods. 🚆 Don't rush: Leave enough time to enjoy the journey, not just the final viewpoint. ❤️ My Final Thoughts Before visiting Jungfraujoch, I thought the highlight would simply be reaching the famous viewpoint. But looking back, I remember the entire journey. 🚆 The train climbing higher. 🌿 The green valleys disappearing below. 🏔️ The mountains becoming bigger. ❄️ And finally stepping into a world covered in snow. Jungfraujoch isn't just a place at the top of a mountain. It's a journey that makes you feel like you've entered another world. 🇨🇭 #Jungfraujoch #Switzerland #SwissAlps #Jungfrau #TopOfEurope #Lauterbrunnen #Wengen #Grindelwald #SwissTravel #VisitSwitzerland #SwitzerlandTrip

🏔️Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland 🇨🇭 A village nestled in a valley, surrounded by cliffs and waterfalls—like something out of a fairytale ✨ Following Bibury, this time we're switching from the English countryside to a Swiss village in the mountains: wooden houses, green meadows, the Alps, and waterfalls cascading down high cliffs 🌿🏡💦 💦 1. Staubbach Falls A landmark you'll see almost immediately upon arriving in Lauterbrunnen. The tall waterfall cascading down the cliff behind the village makes the view of Swiss houses and a waterfall an iconic image of the place. Morning or evening is ideal for a stroll and taking photos 📸 🏡 2. Lauterbrunnen Village The village features wooden chalet-style houses, a hotel, small restaurants, and cafes, with towering mountains on both sides. There's no need to rush to see all the landmarks; just a short walk off the main road along the countryside will take you far. There are beautiful spots all along the way 🌼 💧 3. Trümmelbach Falls This waterfall is different from Staubbach because the water flows inside the mountain. You can walk along the paths and viewpoints inside to see the power of the water cascading down the rocks. Check the opening hours according to the season before you go. 🌿 4. Lauterbrunnen Valley One of the best activities here is hiking along the valley trails. You'll be surrounded by meadows, wooden houses, cliffs, and several waterfalls. If you want postcard-perfect Swiss scenery, this is the place 🤍 🚞 5. Wengen You can take a train up to Wengen, a village on the hillside overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The view from the top shows the valley in a clear shape, different from the view from the ground below, and the village itself is very charming. 🚠 6. Mürren Another mountain village worth visiting, with views of the Alps right in front of you. Ideal for those with more than one day and wanting to explore the Jungfrau area further. ✨ 4 Must-Do Things: 💦 See Staubbach Falls — an iconic waterfall of Lauterbrunnen. 🌿 Hike the Lauterbrunnen Valley — admire meadows, wooden houses, and high cliffs. 💧 Visit Trümmelbach Falls — experience the waterfall flowing inside the mountain. 🚞 Ascend to Wengen — enjoy a different perspective of the valley from above. 🗺️ 1 Day in Lauterbrunnen 08. 00 | Lauterbrunnen Village 🏡 Start the day with a stroll through the village, taking photos of the wooden houses against the mountain backdrop. 09. 00 | Staubbach Falls 💦 Walk to the waterfall and find a spot to photograph the village against the cliffs. 10. 00 | Valley Walk 🌿 Walk along the valley trail, enjoying meadows and waterfalls along the way. 11. 30 | Trümmelbach Falls 💧 Explore the waterfall inside the mountain. If open during your travel period: 13. 00 | Lunch 🧀🍽️ Take a lunch break before returning to Lauterbrunnen. 14. 30 | Train to Wengen 🚞 Take the mountain train for a change of scenery and visit the village of Wengen. 15. 00 | Wengen Village 🏔️ Stroll around the village and enjoy the view of Lauterbrunnen Valley from above. 17. 00 | Café Time ☕ Relax with coffee or pastries while enjoying the mountain views. 18. 00 | Golden Hour 🌅 Return to Lauterbrunnen, stroll around in the evening light, and end with views of Staubbach Falls and the village. “Small wooden houses nestled in the middle of green fields, with high cliffs and a waterfall in front…Lauterbrunnen is one of those places that doesn't need much editing to feel like you're in a fairytale world 🇨🇭🌿💦” #Lauterbrunnen #Switzerland #SwitzerlandTravel #FairytaleVillage

🇨🇭🍂 PLANNING SWITZERLAND THIS AUTUMN? Hit that save button—you’ll want this handy guide in your back pocket! Switzerland in autumn is absolutely breathtaking, but trust me, the right timing and smart packing will totally level up your trip. Let’s dive in so you don’t miss out on those jaw-dropping views and cozy autumn vibes. 🍁 WHEN TO GO · September: Milder temps and longer, golden days. Perfect for exploring cities and lakeside towns. · October: Peak autumn glow! Expect vibrant colours, crisp air and the full fall aesthetic. · November: Temps drop, days get shorter, and the weather becomes more unpredictable—think early snow and moody mist. · Keep in mind: Autumn leaves change at different times depending on where (and how high up) you are. ☀️ DAYLIGHT DEEP DIVE By mid-October, you’ll get around 11 hours of daylight in most places. Switzerland switches from summer to standard time in late October, so sunset suddenly happens about an hour earlier (watch out if you’re planning sunset hikes!). 🏔️ UP IN THE MOUNTAINS… The sunset time doesn’t always mean you’ll see sun until then! Mountains can put dreamy spots like Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Wengen into shadow way earlier. Pro tip: Always check local conditions. 🌦️ WILD WEATHER MOODS Swiss weather likes to keep you on your toes, especially in the Alps. Down in towns and lakes it can be super comfy, but go up a few hundred metres and you might hit rain, icy winds, or an early snowstorm. 🎒 WHAT TO PACK Layers are your BFF! · 👕 Base: T-shirt or thermal top · 🧥 Mid: Fleece, sweater, or light down jacket · 🌧️ Outer: Water- & windproof jacket Don’t forget: · Comfy walking shoes · Beanie & light gloves · Sunglasses · Compact umbrella (for surprise showers!) · Sunscreen (yes, even in autumn! UV is sneaky up high) 🗓️ SWISS TRAVEL HACK Don’t hinge your whole day on *one* epic mountain spot! Keep your plans chill and flexible—mix lakes, mountain valleys, and cute towns. That way, you can swap your route if the weather changes (which it probably will 😉). 🇨🇭 SAVE & SHARE THIS for your ultimate Swiss autumn adventure! Swipe to PART 2 for the inside scoop on where to catch those unreal fall colours and the best scenic spots. ✨ Addresses, opening hours, and inspo for must-see spots coming up in the next post—stay tuned for the full autumn adventure!

🏔️ Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland 🇨🇭 A village nestled in a valley, like something out of a fantasy world ✨ After Český Krumlov, I highly recommend Lauterbrunnen. The atmosphere changes from a medieval town to a Swiss village + Alps + high cliffs + waterfalls. The picturesque scenery is completely different 🏡💚 Lauterbrunnen is situated in a valley flanked by high cliffs on both sides and is famous for its numerous waterfalls. The most iconic landmark is Staubbach Falls, a waterfall cascading down from a high cliff behind the village 💦 🌿 1. Lauterbrunnen Village Just strolling through the village is beautiful. Swiss-style wooden houses line the meadows, with high mountains as a backdrop, and Staubbach Falls visible from many angles. Perfect for a leisurely walk and taking photos. 💦 2. Staubbach Falls One of Lauterbrunnen's main landmarks, this waterfall cascades down from a cliff almost 300 meters high and is visible from the village. On a clear day, you'll get a picture of the Swiss house and the waterfall in the same frame. 🏔️ 3. Wengen From Lauterbrunnen, you can take a train up to Wengen, a mountain village with almost no cars. The view from the top looking back down at the Lauterbrunnen Valley is stunning. 🚞 🚠 4. Mürren Another village worth visiting is Mürren, located high above the valley. It has a peaceful atmosphere, with wooden houses, flowers, and mountain views. It's perfect for those who enjoy small villages and natural scenery. 💧 5. Trümmelbach Falls This waterfall is hidden inside the mountains, offering a different experience from Staubbach Falls because you can go inside to see the water flowing through the rock crevices. Opening hours depend on the season. 🚞 6. Trains and Cable Cars in the Mountains Another charm of traveling in this area is the transportation options. Both mountain trains and cable cars allow you to visit... Lauterbrunnen is connected to Wengen and Mürren without needing to drive yourself. ⸻ 📸 4 Must-Do Things: 💦 Photograph Staubbach Falls + Lauterbrunnen Village 🏡 Stroll along the streets and paths in the valley 🚞 Take the train up to Wengen and enjoy the view from the top 🚠 Visit Mürren to see the village and the Alps ⸻ 🗺️ 1 Day in Lauterbrunnen 08. 00 | Lauterbrunnen Village 🏡 Start by strolling through the village. It's less crowded in the morning, so take photos of the wooden houses, meadows, and mountains. 09. 00 | Staubbach Falls 💦 Walk closer to the waterfall and take photos of this important landmark of Lauterbrunnen. 10. 30 | Valley Walk 🌿 Walk along the valley path, passing meadows, Swiss houses, and waterfalls along the cliffs. 12. 00 | Lunch 🍽️ Return to the village. Enjoy a meal with mountain views. 13. 30 | Train to Wengen 🚞 Take the train to Wengen, stroll around the village and admire the Lauterbrunnen Valley from above. 15. 30 | Café Time ☕ Relax with coffee or pastries while enjoying the mountain views. 16. 30 | Back to Lauterbrunnen 🏔️ Take the train back down and stroll around to capture more photos. 18:00 | Golden Hour 🌅 End the day with views of Staubbach Falls and the village in the evening light. “Some cities have skyscrapers as their skyline, but in Lauterbrunnen, the horizon is mountains, cliffs, and waterfalls 🏔️💦🤍” #Lauterbrunnen #Switzerland #SwitzerlandTravel #DreamVillage

I can't believe I found this incredible hotel in Wengen that frames the Jungfrau right in your room! Located in the car-free town of Wengen, the entire village is quiet and free of motor vehicles—it's like stepping into an Alpine fairy tale. The hotel offers a free shuttle from the train station, so you don't have to worry about your luggage, and it makes ski trips extra convenient. It's within walking distance of Wengen LWM. Just step outside for a casual stroll, and you'll be greeted by the rolling Alpine mountains. The rooms face the Jungfrau directly and feature a private balcony. Open the window to see snow-capped mountains and a sea of clouds spread out before you like a living oil painting. Waking up to the mountain scenery in the morning is incredibly healing. The hotel's amenities are very comfortable; you can enjoy the sauna for free and book separate spa treatments for relaxation. I recommend trying the Zurich-style veal at the restaurant—the flavor is very authentic and a must-try! Breakfast is a simple European style. While the selection isn't huge, the atmosphere of eating slowly while taking in the magnificent snow-capped mountains is irreplaceable. There is also a gorgeous, retro-style bar where you can sit down for a drink at night, accompanied by the night view of the snow-capped mountains—the ultimate way to relax.

Looking back at the photos from this trip to Switzerland, I realized just how many diverse landscapes we’ve crossed. From modern cities to ancient towns; from serene lakes to scenic cruises; from deep valleys to snow-capped peaks; from lush green meadows to charming mountain villages; from scenic train rides to rolling vineyards; plus the castles, the bread, the coffee, the cheese, the chocolate, and the fruit. It was, quite simply, a rich and wonderful mix. Starting in Zurich, we first wandered through the Old Town of Bern before heading to Thun to soak in the lakeside charm. By the time we reached Interlaken, the scenery began to transform. We hopped on a cruise across Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, surrounded by majestic mountains, then headed toward Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, and Grindelwald—where valleys, waterfalls, meadows, and wooden chalets appeared scene after scene. Next, we boarded the GoldenPass Train, letting the scenery glide by the window. From lakeshores to mountain passes, from green pastures to snowy summits, the Swiss landscape seemed to shift effortlessly, like a changing canvas. In Zermatt, we took the Gornergrat Railway up into the heights. When the Matterhorn finally appeared before us, it hit me—we were truly in the heart of the Alps. Heading west, we reached Montreux, Vevey, and Lausanne. The pace shifted as we returned to the lakeside. A cruise on Lake Geneva allowed us to drift past hillsides and distant cities, fully embracing the leisurely second half of our trip. We visited the vineyards of Chexbres, looking out over the grapes toward the water. We also stopped for the castle and cheese in Gruyères, the chocolate in Broc, and all the bread, coffee, and fruit we found along the way. Finally, we arrived in Geneva. We explored the city and visited the United Nations, giving the end of our journey a deeper sense of perspective. We weren’t rushing to check off a list of landmarks. If we liked a place, we stayed a bit longer, if the view was beautiful, we lingered, if we were tired, we simply sat down to rest. That’s exactly why we love independent travel. You set your own itinerary; you decide when to slow down. And Switzerland offers so much variety, just waiting to be discovered at your own pace. We covered a lot of ground on this trip. But looking back, the moments I cherish most are the ones that weren't planned at all— Sitting on a boat on the lake, watching the mountains slowly pass by; sitting on the train, watching the scenery shift outside the window; walking through small-town streets, listening to the church bells; grabbing a coffee and a piece of bread or chocolate at a street corner; standing before the snow mountains, quietly gazing at the Matterhorn. Attractions might fade, photos will be stored away. But the paths we walked together, the views we shared, the bread, coffee, cheese, chocolate, and fruit we enjoyed, and the way we felt in those moments, those are the things that will stay with us much longer. We took our time through Switzerland. It was rich, and it was deeply fulfilling.

Many people hear "Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe" and assume the Jungfrau is the highest peak in Europe. In reality, it isn't! The truly impressive feat is that Jungfraujoch sits at an altitude of 3,454 meters, making it the highest railway station in all of Europe. (Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe) You can take a train and a cable car directly into a world of ice and snow at over 3,000 meters. It makes you admire Swiss engineering all over again, allowing ordinary travelers to easily enjoy high mountains, snowy peaks, and glaciers. 🚠 How to get up to Jungfraujoch? From Grindelwald, you have two main options: ・Eiger Express: Grindelwald Terminal → Eigergletscher ・Traditional Cogwheel Train: Via Kleine Scheidegg Regardless of the initial route, you must transfer to the Jungfrau Railway at Eigergletscher or Kleine Scheidegg to reach Jungfraujoch. You can also arrange your trip to take different routes for the ascent and descent via the official website—for example, taking the Eiger Express up and the traditional train down—to experience both views in one trip. We chose the Eiger Express to go up, which is much faster; it takes about 45 minutes from Grindelwald Terminal to Jungfraujoch. 🎫 STP & Reservations If you have a Swiss Travel Pass (STP) like we did, you can get a discount on Jungfraujoch tickets. From Grindelwald or Wengen, the current discount is approximately 25% off. We purchased our round-trip Eiger Express tickets via an online platform (and it was no problem to take the train for the return trip). Starting from May 1 to October 31, 2026, official regulations will make seat reservations mandatory for Jungfraujoch, with a reservation fee of CHF 10. There is a standby line for passengers without reservations, but you must wait for reserved passengers to board first, and you can only board if there are seats left. While you might still get a spot if your plans change, it's not recommended to count on this during peak season. ❄️ What to do at the top? We didn't wait in line for the popular photo spot with the Swiss flag; instead, we followed the official tour route at our own pace. ・Observatory ・Ice Palace ・Overlooking the Aletsch Glacier ・A close-up view of Jungfrau and surrounding snow-capped mountains The Aletsch Glacier is the longest glacier in the Alps, and the view from the top is truly spectacular. The weather was perfect that day, giving us a clear view of the Jungfrau. However, what unexpectedly kept us staring for a long time was the neighboring Mönch peak. The sunlight and cloud shadows constantly moved across the snowy surface. Even just standing still and watching the mountain felt incredibly healing. 🏔️🤍 🍀⛰️ Don't rush down | Eiger Walk On the way back, we didn't ride all the way to Grindelwald. Instead, we got off at Eigergletscher to hike to Kleine Scheidegg. This is the Jungfrau Eiger Walk: ・Eigergletscher → Kleine Scheidegg ・Approximately 2.5 km ・A gentle downhill path all the way ・Official time: about 1 hour ・Elevation: from approx. 2,321 m down to 2,062 m The route isn't difficult and offers close-up views of the Eiger the entire way. You’ll also pass Fallbodensee, a lake with beautiful blue-green gradients. On a clear day, you can capture the reflection of the snowy mountains in the water. I think arranging this short hike is much more rewarding than just taking the train down. 📌 Our Route ・Grindelwald Terminal ・Eiger Express → Eigergletscher ・Jungfrau Railway → Jungfraujoch ・Observatory / Ice Palace / Aletsch Glacier ・Jungfrau Railway back to Eigergletscher ・Eiger Walk hike → Kleine Scheidegg ・Train back down 💭 Jungfraujoch Reflections What impressed me most about Jungfraujoch wasn't just the fact that "I reached the highest train station in Europe." It’s how Switzerland uses trains and cable cars to turn a 3,000-meter mountain world into a place accessible to ordinary travelers. Standing between snowy peaks and glaciers in the morning, then slowly walking down from Eigergletscher in the afternoon while looking at the blue-green lakes, grassy slopes, and the Eiger. I think taking the Eiger Express up and saving time for the Eiger Walk on the way down is a very comfortable and complete way to experience Jungfraujoch.
