Wells travel guide and discussion

Welcome to the Chained Library at Wells Cathedral, where history literally hangs from the shelves. Some of the books are still attached by chains, a system once used to protect valuable manuscripts and early printed works when books were incredibly expensive and rare. The library dates back to the 15th century and holds thousands of historic volumes, including medieval manuscripts and early printed books. Walking through it feels less like visiting a library and more like stepping into another century. And then there’s Wells Cathedral itself, one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in England, with its dramatic façade, soaring arches and extraordinary medieval architecture. 📍 Wells, Somerset, England 💡 Perfect for a day trip if you love history, architecture, old books and unusual places. Would you visit a library where the books are literally chained to the shelves? 👀📖 #WellsCathedral #Wells #Somerset #EnglandTravel #UKTravel #HiddenEngland #HistoricEngland #ChainedLibrary #BookLovers #MedievalEngland #EnglishHeritage #TravelInspiration #UniquePlaces #DayTripUK #easytravel

Right next door, the moated Bishop's Palace features 14 acres of lush gardens and its famous bell-ringing swans. #europetrip An interesting collection of items and information about Wells and its Bishop. There are displays detailing 800 years of history. The Palace has gardens to enjoy. We went on a rainy October day and couldn't see a lot from the ramparts due to the mist. However, we would like to return on a clearer day to see if we can spot Glassonbury Tor in the distance. An adult ticket for the Palace and Gardens is £17.50 but this can give you entry for a year. There are some concessions and family tickets available, and there is a joint ticket that also gives access to the cathedral. That's worth getting if you intend to visit both sites (they're next to each other). Accessibility is good. The inside of the building is mostly level, and there is a platform lift. There is a clear even path around the gardens. The ramparts are only accessed via stone steps.

#uktrip This cathedral was awesome, I really enjoyed my time here, I arrived at around 9:30 and left near 4. The building was beautiful, there was so much to see, lots of information boards, and not forgetting the second oldest working clock in the world. I will share some clips of my visit to this amazing cathedral on my YouTube channel: urbantiger6540. I'm visiting the area, so I will add the clips onto my video tour of Robin Hood's Hut. It costs £14 to get in, but you can return as many times as you like for the next 12 months, and I will definitely return. I met some friendly people too.

My Trip to the UK I visited The Wales Cathedral in the UK was an amazing experience filled with spirituality and history. I enjoyed talking and taking pictures as much as we could see. ❤️ The cathedral is one of the finest examples of English Gothic architecture, ☺️ with its ornate details and towering spires. I enjoyed wandering through the stained glass reflecting biblical scenes and the spacious hallways. The light passing through there adds a special beauty to the atmosphere. The ancient astronomical clock inside the cathedral was one of the outstanding monuments that caught my attention with its intricate geometric details. The surrounding gardens were quiet, giving me time to contemplate and enjoy their beauty.
