Just finished a 5-day self-driving trip in Bijie! I was mentally prepared for high costs in Guizhou travel, but after tallying up, I was seriously shocked by the prices. Guizhou’s culture and tourism are hidden gems😂 🏨Accommodation tips|Locals’ secret spots (cost-performance reference) Bijie’s attractions are spread out, so staying blindly in scenic areas isn’t recommended—peak season prices are very high! ✅ Qixingguan city center (near Bijie high-speed rail station) Chain hotels and boutique guesthouses in the city cost 130–260 CNY per night. Night markets, lamb noodles, and griddle cakes cluster here. It’s the top choice for transit and very convenient for self-driving stops. ✅ Zhijin county town (best choice for visiting Zhijin Cave) Guesthouses in the county cost 85–200 CNY. It’s a 10-minute drive to Zhijin Cave. You can stroll around Pingyuan ancient town at night, full of local life. ✅ Around Dafang Shexiang ancient town Yi ethnic-style guesthouses cost 120–230 CNY. Free to check out the terraced fields’ night view. Great for those who enjoy ethnic culture. ⚠️ Tip: During the Baili Rhododendron bloom, scenic area guesthouse prices rise significantly. Cooling off with kids in August doesn’t mean squeezing into crowded hotspots! Here are 4 of my favorite small cities at around 20℃—cool, fun, and easy for family outings🌿 📍Liupanshui China’s “cool capital” lives up to its name, with an average summer temperature around 20℃. You’ll even need a jacket at night. Day 1: Take the cable car at Meihuashan to see the sea of clouds—kids love it. In the afternoon, visit Wumeng Grassland, where wide open slopes are perfect for running and rolling. Day 2: Bike around Minghu Wetland Park or stroll and snack in Shuicheng Ancient Town, where kids can play with water wheels. Food: Shuicheng lamb rice noodles, baked pot (sour soup flavor recommended). Stay: Near Wanda in Zhongshan District, with full amenities and many family rooms. Note: Big temperature difference between morning and night, bring long sleeves and rain gear. Strong UV rays, apply sunscreen. 📍Anji The summer garden getaway for Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai, with bamboo forests and streams that bring natural coolness. Day 1: Zhongnan Herb Garden has a zoo, amusement park, and botanical garden—one day isn’t enough. Day 2: Walk the glass plank road at China Bamboo Sea to see waves of bamboo, or visit Yunshang Grassland (high altitude, cool). Food: Anji white tea pastry, dried bamboo shoots with pork, farm-raised chicken. Stay: Guesthouses in Anji County or near Baofu Town offer great value. Note: Many mosquitoes in the mountains, bring insect repellent. Attractions are spread out, self-driving recommended. 📍Weining A hidden gem in Guizhou, with cool and pleasant summer weather at Caohai Lake. Day 1: Rent a bike to circle Caohai, enjoy the breeze and watch water birds. Kids can feed seagulls (handle with care). Day 2: Picnic and fly kites at Baicaoping alpine grassland with amazing views. Food: Weining ham, buckwheat crisps, roasted potatoes (dip in chili powder for a treat). Stay: Near Caohai Town, walking distance to the lake, many inns available. Note: Altitude is 2,200 meters, watch for sun exposure. No driving in Caohai core area, walking or biking is best. 📍Fuxian Lake Yunnan locals’ secret garden, with water as clear as glass and just the right temperature in summer. Day 1: Play in the sand and watch waves at Luchong Scenic Area, then climb Bijia Mountain for a full lake view. Day 2: Spend the day at Moon Bay Wetland Park with its beach and shallow water—kids can play all day. In the afternoon, visit Hongshanzui to see the pink sand beach. Food: Copper pot fish, potato rice, stone pot fish. Stay: Family apartments in Luchong Village or near Moon Bay, convenient for cooking. Note: The lake road is long, consider hiring a car or renting an electric bike. Watch water depth at the lake shore and keep an eye on kids. Any of these 4 places will give you a cool summer.
