Hey everyone! I recently dove headfirst into Sunderland, a hidden gem in the UK, and I was absolutely blown away! I have to share this super detailed travel guide with you all! Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Sunderland in the morning and take a taxi directly from the airport to the hotel to check in (about a 30-minute ride). After dropping off your luggage, head to the city center. Visit the Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, which is within walking distance, and enjoy the British streetscapes along the way. The museum has a rich collection, and the gardens are beautiful year-round—perfect for taking photos. I recommend spending about 3 hours here. Day 2: Take a bus to Roker Beach in the morning (about a 20-minute ride). Watch the sunrise, feel the sea breeze and sunshine—it's super relaxing. In the afternoon, take the subway to Monkwearmouth Station. This historic station is full of charm; plan for about 2 hours here. Day 3: Drive to Washington Old Hall in the morning (about a 30-minute drive). This is the ancestral home of the first US president, George Washington. The architecture is quaint, and the gardens are beautiful. Spend 2–3 hours exploring. In the afternoon, return to the city center and visit The Bridges Shopping Centre for shopping and dining—a one-stop shop! Highlights The sunset at Roker Beach is incredible! The setting sun paints the sea surface orange-red, and the shimmering waves make for amazing photos. Accommodation Experience I stayed at the ibis Styles Sunderland Centre, which has a fantastic location right in the city center. The shopping street is just steps away. The rooms are simple and comfortable, the breakfast has a good variety, and the staff is very welcoming. It's excellent value for money. Things to Note Buy tickets to attractions in advance on the official websites to save time queuing. The weather in Sunderland is changeable, so remember to bring an umbrella. If you're taking the bus, get a local travel card for better value. Sunderland is truly a place where you can find peace and healing.
