Vlore travel guide and discussion

Dhërmi Beach and Drymades Beach are absolutely next-level 😍 – seriously, they’re two of the most jaw-dropping, crystal-clear spots on the Albanian Riviera! Located just below the super picturesque hillside village of Dhërmi, both beaches flaunt epic mountain views and the kind of blindingly blue Ionian waters that make your Instagram pop.📸 But here’s the twist: Dhërmi and Drymades each offer their own unique vibes, so you get the best of both worlds. Dhërmi Beach is perfect for those craving laid-back chill vibes and easy access to beach bars and cafes. Think sun loungers, cocktails, and breezy tunes all day! Address: Dhërmi Beach, Dhërmi, Vlorë County, Albania (Open 24/7, but summer is the peak season for the best beach action). Meanwhile, Drymades Beach is just a short stroll away and totally hits different. It’s famous for its more relaxed atmosphere and pebbly shore, plus tons of cute boutique hotels and boho beach clubs. If you’re into sunrise yoga or sunset cocktails, this is THE spot. Address: Drymades Beach, Dhërmi, Vlorë County, Albania (Open all day, with beach bars typically open from 10am–late). Both beaches are super easy to reach from the main road connecting Vlorë and Sarandë, and trust me, the drive itself is 🤯—mountains, sea views, all the good stuff! Whether you’re living your best beach bum life or prepping for some epic beach club nights, Dhërmi and Drymades have you covered. Pack your sunnies, hit up trip.com for hotel recs, and get ready for some seriously unforgettable waterfront vibes! #dhermibeach #Drymadesbeach #albaniannature

Dhërmi is seriously a gem on the Albanian Riviera and honestly, it’s a whole vibe! This place is split into two totally different worlds, so you can switch up your mood in a heartbeat. First up, you’ve got the OG Dhërmi village, nestled high up in the stunning Ceraunian Mountains. Think stone houses, quaint alleyways, and endless mountain views—it’s giving major old-school Mediterranean romance. If you’re chasing tranquil mornings and chill history walks, this spot is def for you. Don’t miss sunrise here…next level peaceful! Then, just cruise down about 10 minutes to hit the beach zone, and BOOM—a vibrant, energetic stretch lined with beach clubs and bars right along that unreal turquoise Ionian Sea. Whether you’re up for grabbing a cocktail at Havana Beach Club (Dhërmi Beach, Open daily 09:00–02:00) or dancing till sunrise at one of the beach parties, this coastline goes hard! The vibe is youthful, wild, and so Instagrammable—you’ll have FOMO just thinking about leaving. Dhërmi is about 42 km south of Vlorë (easy drive along the SH8 highway), and it’s honestly the spot if you need a mix of Mediterranean history, dramatic mountain-meets-sea scenery, plus that beach nightlife. Whether you’re into sunbathing, hiking, or just vibing with the locals, Dhërmi gives you the best of both chill and thrill. Add it to your summer wishlist—it’s a slay every time! #Dhërmivillage #dhermi #albaniannature #travel2026 #albanianriviera

I booked Greece. Then I saw the prices. A friend said "just go to Albania instead." I didn't expect much. What I found was the Mediterranean of thirty years ago. Empty coves. Turquoise water. Villages where grandmothers bring you homemade rakia before you've even ordered. This is the coastline Europe forgot to tell you about. Here's how I discovered it. 🚐 7:00 AM — The Road That Hugs The Cliffs The drive from Saranda to Himarë follows a road cut into the mountainside. Every turn reveals a new bay. I took the local minibus because I'm not brave enough to drive these roads myself. The driver played 90s Albanian pop music. The old woman next to me offered me sunflower seeds. The sea sparkled a thousand feet below. I pressed my face against the glass like a child. 💸 400 lek (about 4 USD) 📍 Coastal road @Saranda to @Himarë 🌊 9:00 AM — Gjipe Beach Before The Boats Arrive Gjipe is not easy to reach. You drive to a dusty parking lot, then walk thirty minutes through a canyon. At the end, the canyon opens onto a perfect crescent of white pebbles and water so clear it looks Photoshopped. I arrived at 9 AM. Nobody else was there. I swam alone in a canyon that echoed with the sound of waves. By noon, a few boats arrived. By then I'd already had paradise to myself. 🆓 Free 📍 @Gjipe Beach ⏰ Early morning or nothing ☕ 12:00 PM — Coffee With A View That Costs Nothing Albanians take coffee seriously. In the village of Vuno, perched on a hill above the sea, I found a small café with a terrace hanging over the edge of the world. The owner brought me an espresso so thick the spoon almost stood up in it. Below me, the entire coast unfolded. Corfu floated on the horizon. I paid 70 lek. Seventy. That's less than a dollar. 💸 70 lek (about 0.70 USD) 📍 Café terrace in @Vuno 🏖️ 2:00 PM — The Beach Where Cows Swim Livadhi Beach is a long curve of pale sand. At the far end, away from the few sunbeds, a cow wandered down to the water's edge. It waded in up to its shoulders. It stayed there for half an hour, just cooling off. I swam nearby. We shared the sea. An Albanian family nearby didn't even look up. Apparently this is normal here. I loved it. 🆓 Free 📍 @Livadhi Beach 🍽️ 3:30 PM — Lunch At A Farm That Became A Restaurant Between Dhërmi and Drymades, a family turned their olive farm into a restaurant. It's called Farma e Sopotit. No menu. Just what they grew and raised and picked that morning. Goat cheese drizzled with mountain honey. Grilled vegetables still warm from the sun. Lamb cooked under an iron lid covered in coals. I ate under a grape arbor. The grandmother walked past and patted my shoulder. "Te befte mire," she said. May it do you good. 💸 1200 lek (about 12 USD) 📍 @Farma e Sopotit 🌅 6:00 PM — Himarë Old Town At Golden Hour Himarë has an old town on a hill above the new town. It's mostly abandoned. Crumbling stone houses. A church with a bell tower. Narrow alleys overgrown with bougainvillea. I walked up as the sun began to set. The stone walls glowed gold. Below, the bay was a sheet of hammered copper. I was completely alone. A cat followed me. She seemed to own the place. 🆓 Free 📍 Old town above @Himarë 🍷 8:00 PM — Wine With A Pirate Back by the sea, a man named Kosta runs a bar built from driftwood and old fishing nets. He calls himself a retired pirate. I don't know if I believe him, but he pours a glass of local red wine that tastes like plums and salt air. His bar is basically a wooden shack on the beach. Fairy lights. Reggae music. The waves lap three meters from your feet. I stayed until the moon rose over the sea. 💸 300 lek (about 3 USD) per glass 📍 Driftwood bar on @Himarë Beach 🌌 10:30 PM — Swimming In Phosphorescence Kosta told me about the phosphorescence. Late at night, the plankton in the bay glow when disturbed. I walked into the water in the dark. Every movement of my hands left trails of blue light. I floated on my back and stared at the Milky Way. The water glowed. The sky glowed. I was suspended between two galaxies. This is not an experience you pay for. It's one you earn by showing up. 🆓 Free 📍 @Himarë Bay on moonless nights 🏨 Where I Stayed (And Woke Up To Waves) Guest House Solive — a family-run place in Dhërmi. My room was steps from the water. The son brought me figs from the garden every morning. I extended my stay twice. Booked on Trip.com. 💸 ~30 EUR/night via Trip.com 💡 Five Things Albania Taught Me · Cash is king. Almost nowhere accepts cards on the riviera. · "Faleminderit" is thank you. "Po" is yes. "Jo" is no. That's enough to start. · Trip.com eSIM worked perfectly even on remote beaches. · The bunkers everywhere are from the communist era. They're now part of the landscape. · Don't rush. Albania moves at its own rhythm. Yours doesn't matter here. The Albanian Riviera is what the Mediterranean used to be before the world discovered it. Raw. Generous. Unforgettable. We had an incredible journey last month to Albania and North Macedonia, guided by Ledio from Show Me Albania. Albania is an amazing destination, offering everything from gorgeous beaches and snow-covered mountains to historic landmarks and vibrant cities. The country’s modern history is just as captivating as its ancient past. Ledio was fantastic in showing us around and expertly managing the chaotic traffic—we simply couldn’t have done it without his support. From the outset, we tailored the itinerary to our preferences, and everything was transparent—no unexpected changes to destinations or costs. Starting in Tirane, we traveled down the coast, visiting Vlore, Himare, Porto Palermo Castle, Sarande, Ksamil, and Butrint. Afterward, we headed inland to experience the Blue Eye, Gjirokaster, and Berat, two breathtaking cities known for their distinct castles and fortresses. We concluded our trip at Lin, Albania and Ohrid, North Macedonia, enjoying the serene beauty of Lake Ohrid. We’re very grateful to Show Me Albania for ensuring we got the most out of our travels in Albania and North Macedonia!

Albania's coastline along the Ionian and Adriatic Seas offers pristine beaches, hidden coves, and a laid-back Mediterranean vibe without the crowds of neighboring Greece or Croatia. For a secluded paradise, head to Gjipe Beach near Dhermi—park at the canyon entrance and hike 30 minutes through a dramatic gorge to reach a white-sand beach flanked by towering cliffs, where you can camp overnight or simply swim in crystal-clear waters far from any road. For a lively atmosphere, visit Ksamil Beach in the south—rent a paddleboat to explore the small offshore islands, then enjoy fresh grilled sea bass at a beachfront restaurant while watching the sunset over Corfu visible in the distance. For a unique experience, take a boat from Saranda to the remote beaches of the Ionian islands—swim in the turquoise waters of Kakome Bay, then visit the hidden cave of St. Marina, accessible only by water. For a family-friendly day, head to Durrës Beach on the Adriatic—stroll along the long, sandy shoreline dotted with beach umbrellas, then explore the nearby Roman amphitheater, one of the largest in the Balkans. End your evening at a seaside taverna in the village of Borsh, feasting on fresh octopus and feta drizzled with local honey, as the sound of waves mixes with the laughter of Albanian families enjoying their summer evenings.

This summer, I embarked on a road-trip around Albania, and my time in Himare left me in awe. #holidayvacation 🏡 We started our day with a visit to Vuno, a picturesque village perched on the hills. The charm of its cobblestone streets, traditional houses, and breathtaking views made it a must-visit. While strolling through the village, we stopped at a cozy bar on the main road for a coffee. The experience felt so authentic - just locals and the serene ambiance of a place untouched by time. #exploring 🏖️ Our next adventure was a hidden beach near Kico Meniko in Spile. We parked at Plazhi i Livadhit beach and took a short hike through the rugged mountain trail. The journey itself was worth it, offering stunning views and a sense of adventure. #hikingtrails #adventure Arriving at Kico Meniko felt like stepping inti paradise. The crystal-clear waters and secluded surroundings were breathtaking. #beachlife What made the experience even more special was the small family-run restaurant on the beach. They served fresh fish caught that morning alongside other delicious local dishes. It was one of the most authentic dining experiences I have ever had. #localguides #foodie 🌅 we ended the day in a high note, watching the sunset from the beach. The colours reflecting on the water created an unforgettable moment of peace and beauty. After soaking in the serene atmosphere, we made our way back to the hotel, feeling grateful for the experience. #sunset Tips for Travellers: · Getting to Vuno: The village is easily accessible by car. Spend some time exploring its streets and enjoying the local vibe. · Reaching Kico Meniko Beach: Park at Plazhi i Livadhit and follow the trail to Kico Meniko. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the short hike. · Dining: Don’t miss the local restaurant on the beach. Their fresh fish and local cuisine are a must-try. · Timing: Visit early in the day to enjoy the beach at its quietest. Stay for the sunset - it’s magical! · What to Bring: Sunscreen, water and a sense of adventure! Himare is a gem of Albania, and this day was a perfect blend of culture, nature, and relaxation. If you are planning a trip to Albania, make sure this experience is on your list.

#tripaway Vlora is one of the most beautiful cities in Albania and we should be proud of that. Named "Flag City", "City with two seas" or "Southern Adriatic Port" is considered the pearl of Albanian tourism, with its beautiful shores, Karaburun Peninsula, Sazan Island, Kanina Castle, Narta Lagoon , Vjosa River, with many beaches, monuments, people, products, land and sea etc.Vlora is not only known by the heroes and warriors of the city, but because the people of the villages of Vlora are all singers, they cultivate a specific genre of music, the characteristic folk which no one sings as they sing. Vlora Polyphonic Group is unique in the world. Finally, "Polyphony Labe" (the so-called characteristic folk) is part of the 50 spiritual rites of the World. Another fact that makes Vlora famous is the olive trees. You can taste the oil made by our you can practice all kinds of water or air sports, and you can also do mountaineering. Long or short trips, parachuting, diving, space cruising to do, are not the most interesting activities that Vlora offers pushers not only in summer.factories, which is the best of its kind.#visitalbania #tripaway

Vlorë boat trip to Sazan island

My wife and I traveled from the U.S. to Albania for the second time, relying on Julian for both visits. This time, we spent most of the week on the stunning Albanian Riviera in Vlöre with our guide, Albi. Our trip was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. We enjoyed a boat tour of sea caves, secluded beaches, and breathtaking coves; an ATV tour to a monastery, seaside cliffs, and more beaches; and plenty of relaxing beach time complete with delicious food and drinks. We also had an amazing time kayaking in the beach town of Hiram, followed by snorkeling around fascinating marine life and unique rock formations. On our way back to Tirana, we stopped for a canyon walk, enjoying incredible views and refreshing dips in a clear, cool river. Having used Julian's services twice now, I can confidently say their communication and flexibility are outstanding. Albi, our guide, was truly fantastic—a knowledgeable, kind person who quickly felt like a friend. We deeply appreciated his warmth and expertise throughout the trip. If you're considering a vacation in Albania, I wholeheartedly recommend contacting Julian—tell them your interests and let them handle the rest!

The moment you wind over the Llogara Pass, the Ionian Sea opens up below like a vast sheet of liquid sapphire, instantly pulling you into the spell of the Albanian Riviera. Wandering through these coastal villages feels like stumbling onto Europe’s best-kept secret before the rest of the world fully catches on. In Dhërmi and Himara, life revolves around simple, slow pleasures: waking up to the smell of fresh espresso, walking past stone cottages draped in bougainvillea, and following narrow donkey paths down to hidden coves. The contrast here is captivating, with dramatic limestone cliffs plunging directly into turquoise waters, while friendly locals greet you with warm smiles and invitations to sit down for a chat. Exploring this coastline is all about chasing hidden beaches and rich cultural stops without blowing through your savings. Make Himara your main base for a relaxed vibe, or head south to Saranda if you prefer vibrant harbor nightlife. A short drive away, the ancient UNESCO ruins of Butrint National Park offer a walk through Roman and Byzantine history for around 10 EUR. For the ultimate beach day, skip the crowded loungers in Ksamil and rent a kayak or take a local boat taxi from Himara to Gjipe Beach, a secluded haven tucked right at the end of a dramatic canyon. Renting a scooter for around 15 to 25 EUR a day gives you the freedom to hop between quiet spots like Llaman Beach and Porto Palermo Castle. Living large along the Riviera is remarkably affordable compared to neighboring Mediterranean hot spots. A daily budget of 40 to 70 EUR per person comfortably covers a cozy family-run guesthouse, transport, and fantastic local meals. Breakfast often starts with a warm flaky byrek pastry from a local bakery for little more than a euro, while a sit-down tavern dinner of fresh grilled sea bass, Greek salad, and local wine usually totals around 10 to 15 EUR. Always keep local cash in Albanian Lek on hand, as family tavernas, beach vendors, and rural buses rarely take cards. For the best views and authentic hospitality, eat one street back from the main promenade, where local families serve up incredible homemade meals with unmatched warmth. #AlbanianRiviera #DiscoverAlbania #HiddenEurope #SummerInAlbania #IonianSea #BalkanAdventure #TravelAlbania #CoastlineVibes

#summerinonecut Vlorë is the kind of coastal destination that makes summer feel effortless. The bright blue water, warm sunshine, fresh sea breeze, and beautiful mountain scenery create the perfect backdrop for a relaxed day by the coast. I loved walking along the seaside, enjoying the views, and taking in the lively atmosphere as the city came alive under the summer sun. There was no need for a complicated plan—just a slow morning by the water, time to explore, and a beautiful sunset to finish the day. If you could spend one summer day anywhere on the Albanian Riviera, would Vlorë be your choice? #summerinonecut #Vlore #Vlorë #Albania #AlbanianRiviera #AlbaniaTravel #SummerInAlbania #SummerEscape #BeachGetaway #SeasideLife #OceanViews #ScenicViews #TravelPhotography #TravelMoments

#summerinonecut A summer day in Vlorë is all about sunshine, sea views, and the relaxed rhythm of the Albanian coast. I loved the feeling of walking along the waterfront with the blue sea stretching into the distance and the mountains creating a dramatic backdrop. The warm weather, refreshing breeze, palm-lined promenade, and lively seaside atmosphere made the city feel perfect for a summer escape. I would spend the day enjoying the coast, taking photos, trying local food, and watching the sunset by the water. Vlorë is also a great starting point for exploring more of the Albanian Riviera. A very good taxi service. They are professional and efficient. The driver is reliable, and the vehicle is clean and air-conditioned. I made four trips with them – to Tirana, Vlora, and Golem. They can take you anywhere if you book in advance. They are very kind and respectful. I am a 60-year-old woman traveling alone, and I felt very safe. 😊 👌🏽

If you’re visiting Vlorë, the Sazan Island boat tour is definitely worth adding to your itinerary! 🏝️✨ Our tour cost €26 per person and was a full day of swimming, exploring and soaking up those incredible Albanian views. 😍 We set off from Vlorë and our first stop was a beautiful sea cave 🪨🌊. Unfortunately, because we were on a larger boat, we weren’t able to go inside the cave — but the views from the outside were still gorgeous! 📸 Next stop: Sazan Island! 🏝️ We visited our first beach, which was absolutely beautiful. 💙 We had around 1 hour and 30 minutes here, giving us plenty of time to swim 🏊♀️, relax ☀️ or explore the area. 🥾🌿 Then we headed around to the other side of the island to the main beach… and WOW! 😍🌊 This was definitely the highlight of the trip. We had around 3 hours to enjoy the beach, swim in the crystal-clear water and just relax. 🏖️💦 🍽️ Food tip: You can buy food at the beach, and we paid around 2,000 lek for a full plate of food — it was packed! 😋 You can also get a sub there if you fancy something quick. 🥪 💰 Tour price: €26 per person ⏱️ Time at first beach: 1.5 hours ⏱️ Time at main beach: 3 hours 🎟️ Booking tip: You can book the tour online or from one of the many tour operators along the walking street in Vlorë. We found that booking in person on the walking street might be cheaper, so it’s worth checking a few places and comparing prices before you book! 💶😉 ⚠️ A few tips before you go: 🧴 Bring plenty of sunscreen — you’ll be spending a lot of time in the sun! 🧢 A hat and sunglasses are also a good idea. 💧 Bring water to stay hydrated. ⏰ Arrive early! If you get there late, you may have to sit outside on the boat in the sun, so getting there early can help you get a better seat and stay more comfortable. 👟 Bring comfortable footwear if you plan on exploring. 📱 And of course, keep your phone/camera ready because the views are AMAZING! 🤩📸 If you love swimming, beaches and exploring the Albanian coast, I’d definitely recommend adding Sazan Island to your Vlorë plans! 🇦🇱💙🌊 ⭐ Would I do it again? Absolutely! 🚤🏝️ #sazanisland #vlore #vlora #albania #albaniatravel #visitalbania #albanianriviera #albaniancoast #travelalbania #albaniatrip #beachday #boattrip #islandhopping

Ready to have your mind blown? Gjipe Canyon is hands-down one of the most jaw-dropping spots on the Albanian Riviera! Picture this: epic, 800-meter-long limestone cliffs towering above you, leading straight to the insanely clear blue waters of Gjipe Beach. 📸✨ You’ll find this hidden gem in Vlorë County, tucked between the chill coastal villages of Dhërmi and Vuno. The canyon itself is a narrow gorge—just 10 to 20 meters across in some places—which makes it feel wild, remote, and totally off the beaten path. Why so legendary? Gjipe Canyon is famous as the last “wild” frontier of the Riviera, since getting there is a mini-adventure in itself. You’ll need good shoes and a sense of adventure, but wow, the reward is next-level. Along the way, expect untouched scenery, Insta-worthy rock formations, and that unreal turquoise sea waiting at the end. 🥾🌿 Travel details: Location: Gjipe Canyon, Vlorë County, Albania Closest villages: Dhërmi (around 4 km away), Vuno (about 7 km away) Best time to visit: May–September for beach weather and lower water levels in the canyon Opening hours: Open 24/7 (nature never closes!) Save this spot to your bucket list if you love wild vibes and natural beauty that’s totally unfiltered! Don’t forget to check Trip.com for extra info and epic travel deals. Gjipe Beach is legit one of the last wild frontiers and absolutely INSANE hidden gems along the Albanian Riviera! 😱 This spot is tucked between Dhërmi and Himarë, and trust me, the pebble cove here is next-level gorgeous! It’s right at the mouth of the jaw-dropping, 800-meter-long Gjipe Canyon — picture dramatic cliffs and unreal turquoise water, all totally untouched. Because Gjipe Beach is shielded from main roads and modern developments, getting here is a bit of an adventure (but that’s half the fun, right?!). You can either hike in from the parking area above the canyon or even kayak along the coastline. The journey keeps the beach super pristine, so you’ll be rewarded with crystal-clear vibes and chill nature. Quick tips: – Location: Near Gjipe Canyon, between Dhërmi and Himarë. – How to get there: Hike about 40–60 minutes or paddle in with a kayak for max adventure! – Best time to visit: Early morning or late afternoon for those perfect Insta pics ✨ – Address for navigation: Gjipe Beach, Albania (look up on trip.com for more travel info!) #easytravelpost Llogara Pass (1,029 m) is the hairpin crest of the Riviera road (SH8) between Vlorë and Sarandë, inside Llogara NP — a black pine (Pinus nigra) forest where Sphagnum pads the seep by the Qafa e Llogarasë viewpoint and Racomitrium greens the cliff rock facing the Ionian. The walk is ~4 km loop from the pass car park to the Maja e Çikës spur (2,044 m optional, 4–5 hrs RT); the mossy half is the first 1.5 km on the north face where the pine shade holds fog year-round. No entry fee, no permit. I took a Vlorë–Sarandë furgon (€6, 1 hr to the pass), started 7:30 a.m. in June. Day 30°C Vlorë, 16°C at the pass, moss dripping. Wore boots; the spur is scree, the forest loop mud-and-needle. Mistake: I walked the Çikës spur at 11 a.m. in July — scree 38°C reflected heat, no pine shade up high, turned back at 1,500 m. Forest loop only in summer, dawn. Second mistake: I paid a furgon driver €10 to wait 3 hrs — he left at 10 (Sarandë deadline), I hitched back with a German campervan, fine but stressful. Agree return time in writing. Third: I picked a pine resin chunk "for fire" — ranger: "black pine is protected, resin harvesting 100 € fine, drop it". Buy in Vlorë: a 3 € byrek, not the 20 € Sarandë. Gear: 2 L water, 50 € shell, 25 € fleece. Local rule: no fee, no drones near the military radar on Çikës, stay on the pass loop, the Ionian cliff has no rail. The moss on the seep is the Adriatic fog's catch — step on cut needle. Opinion: Llogara is the 1,029 m pass where Albania's pine forest meets the Ionian in one photo, and the mossy north-face loop is the 40-min half with zero Sarandë beach crowds. Should Llogara NP add a €2 honour box at the pass car park, or keep it a free furgon stop? I'd honour-box. Would you furgon 1 hr up a hairpin pass for mossy black pine over the Ionian?
