#tripaway Jezerca lakes (also called as Buni i Jezercës) is an amazing outdoor destination located near the highest peak of the Accursed Mountains (Prokletije), Maja Jezercë. The easiest way to go to the lakes is from Vusanje in Montenegro. But, if you want an off-trail adventure, then you definitely should try going from Valbona Valley National Park in Albania. Valbona Valley is 22 km from the city called Bajram Curri. Reaching Bajram Curri from Tirana takes around four hours. The bus station in Tirana is in front of Asllan Rusi Sports Center. Another way to reach Bajram Curri is from Prishtina, Kosovo. Theth is a remote, historic mountain village tucked away in the breathtaking Accursed Mountains (aka the Albanian Alps) in northern Albania. This place is seriously next-level—one of Europe’s most untouched AND dreamy alpine escapes, where the views are straight-up wallpaper material. 📸 You’ll find Theth about 70 km from Shkodër (the nearest big city), and honestly, once you arrive, you’re in another world. The best basecamp ever for hiking, going full-on nature photographer mode, or deep-diving into mountain culture. The magic here? It’s real. There are epic trails everywhere—the hike from Theth to Valbona is iconic and can turn even newbies into “I love hiking” types. History buffs, don’t skip the 400-year-old stone Theth Church (Address: Theth village center, Open daily: 7am–7pm), and don’t miss the Blue Eye of Theth (about a 1.5-hour hike from the village, open all day), a turquoise spring that’s peak Instagram dreams. Hot tip: Theth is totally off-grid, so pack all you need ahead of time and check trip.com for accommodation options in traditional guesthouses. Strap on your boots and get ready—exploring Theth is a core memory waiting to happen! 🥾🗺️ #thethnationalpark #theth #albaniannature

#adventuretrips Tackling the grueling cross-border ridge trek from Valbona over to Theth through the jagged perimeter of the Accursed Mountains tested every ounce of my endurance and footwork. Navigating narrow, wind-swept mountain passes where wild horses roamed free among patches of enduring summer snow, the panoramic vistas of overlapping jagged peaks stretched infinitely in every direction. The raw, imposing scale of the wilderness lived up entirely to its dark name, offering a high-octane hiking experience that felt completely detached from the modern world.

#easytravelpost Theth is 70 km north of Shkodër, 4×4 transfer from Shkodër–Theth €25/person shared, or the famous Theth–Valbona pass hike 6–8 hrs. The Blue Eye of Theth (Syri i Kaltër) is free, 6 km from Theth village to Nderlysaj then 3 km uphill (40–50 min) — or a shared minibus Theth→Nderlysaj €5/person, taxi return 4,000–5,000 LEK. I slept in a €15 Theth guesthouse, walked to Nderlysaj at 07:30 (2 hrs), then climbed the rocky trail to the spring at 09:10. The moss lives in the Kaprre stream ravine below the eye: Oriental hornbeam and hazel with Thuidium on the boulders 2 cm thick, 11°C in May, a nutcracker in the beech, the spring itself a 20 m pool of impossible turquoise fed by a 30 m waterfall behind. I sat on the moss log at the viewing ledge, ate a €4 guesthouse burek, watched the depth-darkening center of the pool go from cyan to navy. No swim (12°C, and locals discourage it). The Grunas waterfall spur is 2 km the other direction, moss thicker there. Mistake: I came at 13:00 in July — the rocky trail baked, no shade, the spring crowded with 40 day-trippers; 07:30 start only. Another: the "Blue Eye" near Sarandë is a different one — don't route through Gjirokastër by mistake. Would you walk 9 km from Theth for the free Syri i Kaltër mossy ravine spring at 09:10, or pay €5 minibus to Nderlysaj and save the legs for Grunas instead?

The trek from Valbona to Theth is the ultimate classic of Balkan hiking. This single-day trail crosses the spectacular Valbona Pass (1,759\text{ meters}), serving as the only direct link between two of Albania’s most famous alpine valleys. With no roads crossing these jagged peaks, the only way over is on foot, following an ancient mule track that locals have used for generations. The journey is a study in dramatic geographical contrasts, taking you from a wide, open world into a hidden mountain cradle: The Ascent from Valbona: The trail begins on a wide, sun-bleached riverbed of white stones and grey gravel. As you climb, the path heads into dense, shaded beech forests before opening up into steep alpine meadows. Looking back, you get an expansive, rugged view of Valbona's wide valley floor. The Valbona Pass: Reaching the crest rewards you with a staggering, 360-degree panorama. Stand at the rocky spine of the pass to see the jagged, dramatic grey peaks of the Accursed Mountains towering all around you. The Descent into Theth: Dropping down the other side, the landscape changes completely. The path descends steeply through lush, vibrant green woods, offering sudden, dramatic glimpses of Theth—a cozy, picture-perfect valley tightly enclosed by towering vertical limestone walls. #naturalwonders #mountain #travel2026 #travel #thingstodo #albania #albania🇦🇱 #valbonavalley #theth #valbonatotheth

Tucked away in the rugged northern tip of the country, the Valbona Valley National Park is a breathtaking alpine wonderland of dramatic limestone peaks, dense beech and pine forests, and pristine glacial streams. Often called the "Miracle of the Alps," this isolated valley offers some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Europe, centered around the crystal-clear, striking turquoise waters of the Valbona River. The heart of the experience is the traditional alpine village of Valbona itself, a scattered settlement of classic stone houses with steep, wooden roofs. Life here moves at an unhurried, pastoral pace, where the sound of cowbells echoes off towering rock walls and locals welcome travelers with legendary northern Albanian hospitality. It is a world entirely defined by the massive, jagged grey massifs that enclose the valley, including Maja Jezercë, the highest peak completely within Albania, rising to 2,694 meters. Valbona is best known as the starting or ending point for the legendary Valbona to Theth Hike, a magnificent 18-kilometer trail that crosses the high Valbona Pass (1,759 meters). This challenging but deeply rewarding trek serves as the classic backpacker route through the region, offering panoramic vistas over both spectacular valleys. Visitors spend their days exploring the network of trails leading to hidden waterfalls and remote alpine meadows, and their evenings enjoying hearty, slow-cooked mountain food like flija (a layered pastry) and roasted lamb next to a wood-burning stove. #travel2026 #travel #thingstodo #naturalwonders #albania #albania🇦🇱 #shkodër #komani #valbonavalley #valbonanationalpark #valbonatotheth

#europetrip Carved by glaciers over millennia into the heart of the Accursed Mountains of northern Albania, the Valbona Valley is a destination of raw and almost overwhelming natural beauty — a deep glacial corridor of rushing rivers, ancient beech forests, wildflower meadows, and soaring limestone peaks that together create one of the most visually dramatic mountain landscapes anywhere in southeastern Europe. The valley floor trail following the turquoise Valbona River upstream through the national park is accessible to walkers of most fitness levels and rewards every step with constantly evolving mountain scenery — narrow gorge sections where the river thunders between boulders giving way to wide open meadow sections where the full amphitheatre of surrounding peaks becomes suddenly and completely visible. Traditional Albanian mountain guesthouses known as bujtina dot the valley, offering home-cooked meals and simple accommodation that connects visitors directly to the ancient highland culture of this remarkable region. For more experienced hikers the high ridge trails above the valley deliver perspectives across the Albanian and Montenegrin Alps that rank among the finest mountain panoramas in Europe — vast limestone landscapes of extraordinary geological drama utterly unmarked by the infrastructure and development that has transformed the more accessible alpine ranges to the west. 💡 Tip: The ferry crossing on Lake Koman connecting the lowlands to Valbona is one of Europe’s most dramatic and unmissable boat journeys — a two hour passage through a flooded canyon of towering cliffs that sets the tone perfectly for the mountain wilderness waiting at the other end. #ValbonaNationalPark #AlbanianAlps #KomanFerry #MountainAlbania #NorthAlbania #AlpineTrekking #WildernessEurope

#europeonbudget Albania is an extremely underrated Europe Destination. It is split into two main parts - mountain views in the North with better than the Dolomites but with no crowds, and the South with the same waters as Greece but for one third the price. Albania is a true hidden gem in Europe with the friendliest people. I was only able to explore the North this trip but I am definitely heading back next time. A little information about traveling to Albania: ✨Food✨ One can easily get a full meal under 10 euros here. The food is very tasty with mainly influence from the Ottoman empire and Italy. Imagine food with the best of Turkey and Italian influence. Yum 😋 ✨Getting around✨ Driving is the most common way to get around Albania, with car rentals only being 15-25 Euros a day! I was not a very confident driver so I used public transport to get around which is much more possible now as Albania is starting to open up. If there is sufficient interest, I will post a guide to getting around Albania in public transport. ✨The people ✨ Hands down friendliest in Europe, and they are not at all racist to Asian people. Most in the tourist industry speaks English which is great. ✨Money✨ Probably the most annoying part in Albania. Bring plenty of Euro into the country and change it to Leks at the city. Withdrawing cash requires a large fee. It is rare to find Albanian Leks in your home country and the rates are good in Albania so just change t there. Although they do accept Euro, the rates are much better if you pay in Lek. Also, card is only commonly used in the capital only, so do not rely on it. ✨Safety✨ Most people are concerned about this but it is honestly the safest I felt in my multi-country europe trip. Just do not wear flashy items and have normal precaution. Albania is as safe as most Western Europe countries by statistics, and the people are not looking to scam you. #travel #hiddengems #naturalwonders #albania #europe

I recommend Quku i Valbonës, a hotel in the village of Valbona. You can stay here from 10 euros per night. It is surrounded by 360° mountain views, and it is especially beautiful at sunset and in the early morning when the mountainside turns orange and gradually gets darker. There is a river nearby, which is cold with meltwater from the Alps, but it is extremely clear. Even though I was tired from trekking, the view from this hostel was so beautiful that I forgot to sleep lol If you tell them the day before, they will arrange a minivan to Shkodar. 📍Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/bzWAx7aEV45dwHN79 #0yentravelFebruary2025#ValbonaVillage #Albania #HotelIntroduction

Trekking from the summit of the Cursed Mountain to Valbona Village. It's a continuous descent and takes about 4 hours. When you arrive in Valbona Village, there are several hotels available, with cheap hostels starting from 10 euros. However, reservations fill up quickly, so it's best to book as early as possible. Also, don't forget to arrange your return trip to Shkoder by the day before. Reservations are required, but the hotel staff can make them for you. 📍Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zAUMP4bYwaUcd21L7
