Town hall in Tarnów
The Town Hall in Tarnów - a historic building located in the middle of the Tarnów Market Square. One of the most characteristic buildings of the city and one of its symbols. Originally, it was the seat of the city council and the vogt-jury court. Since 1931, it has been the seat of the museum. The building is an example of Mannerist architecture growing out of the Renaissance. The town hall is located on the Renaissance Route in Lesser Poland.
A joint exhibition of the Diocesan Museum and the City of Tarnów has opened in the halls of the town hall. Works of art, collections of libraries and archives from abandoned palaces and mansions were stored and secured there. The largest part was the collection from the Sanguszko Palace in Gumniska.
In 2006, a "time capsule" was opened - a lead container placed in a sphere on the town hall tower in 1927, containing documents, banknotes and coins of the denominations used in that year. After the ball was renovated, a "shipment into the future" was put inside it.
