#christmastrip
My visit to the Christmas Market in Bratislava was an absolute holiday delight! 🎄 Nestled in the heart of the Old Town, the market's location around the Main Square and Hviezdoslavovo Square felt like stepping into a festive fairy tale.
The highlight was the charming stalls, each adorned with twinkling lights and festive decorations. From handcrafted ornaments to traditional Slovak treats, the market offered a delightful array of gifts and goodies. Savoring lokše (potato pancakes) and sipping on mulled wine added a flavorful touch to the experience.
The central Christmas tree, illuminated against the backdrop of the Old Town Hall, created a magical centerpiece. The daily performances by local choirs and musicians added to the joyful ambiance, filling the air with holiday cheer.

My recent visit to the Bratislava Museum of Jewish Culture left me deeply moved and enriched by the historical narrative it unfolds. Nestled in the heart of Bratislava's Old Town, this museum is housed within the neolog synagogue, a building with architectural and cultural significance.
The museum's exhibits eloquently portray the rich tapestry of Jewish life in Slovakia, spanning centuries and encompassing art, literature, and religious artifacts. Particularly poignant were the sections dedicated to the Holocaust, providing a respectful and somber tribute to the lives affected during that dark period.
The synagogue itself is a highlight, its architecture reflecting a blend of historical and religious influences. The interior features intricate ornamentation and poignant memorials, creating a contemplative atmosphere.
The museum's central location allows for seamless exploration of Bratislava's Old Town, with its charming streets, historic buildings, and cozy cafes. Nearby attractions, such as the St. Martin's Cathedral and the Primate's Palace, contribute to the overall cultural richness of the area.

🇸🇰 Best Viewpoint in Bratislava: The Castle Hill ⛰️
Castle hill is also where the Bratislava Castle is located. It is the main tourist attraction and the most significant symbol of Bratislava. Blue and Beautiful Church of St. Elizabeth
One of the must-visit attractions in Bratislava is the Church of St. Elizabeth. It is referred to as "The Little Blue Church" because of the colour of its façade, mosaics, majolicas and blue-glazed roof.
The vibrant blue exterior and intricate details of the architecture left me in awe. 🇸🇰 #bratislava #2023travelwish #mytripvlog #tripblazers #urbanexplorer #celebratewithtrip #passionpassport #awesomepic

A CITY OF ELEGANCE & CHARM 🇸🇰
The Brastislava Castle overlooks 18th Century Old Town and The Danube River by the border Austria & Hungary. An inexpensive place to visit compared to the cities of western Europe, Bratislava offers enough attractions and activities for just a short visit. Most of the main attractions are within walking distance of one another, it's very easy to navigate between them during a day in Bratislava.
I spent my day in Bratislava immersing myself in the Slovakian culture, and of course trying out some of its cuisine. It's a city largely influenced by different cultures, and the area has a rich history dating back thousands of years. One of my favourite facts is that Bratislava is the only capital in the world that borders two different countries (Austria and Hungary), meaning it's perfectly located for day trips, either to or from it. I was wow-ed! 🤩

Slavín
#bucketlistreboot
Slavín memorial monument - a place to visit.
You can also enjoy nice views of Bratislava from Slavín – memorial monument and military cemetery. It is the burial ground of thousands of Soviet Army soldiers who fell during WWII. The monument is situated on a hill and offers some great views of Bratislava from above. Bratislava also hosts a few peculiar statues as you stroll through the streets. A favourite for most tourists. One of them is Čumil or also know as “Man at work“. An offbeat bronze statue of a sewer worker resting at the top of a manhole, “peeping” at passers-by.

Bratislava Castle Perhaps one of the better places you can even consider finishing your day would be the Bratislava Castle. The castle building includes four towers (one on each corner) and a courtyard with a 80 m (260 ft) deep water well. The castle’s site, like today’s city, has been inhabited for thousands of years, because it is strategically located in the center of Europe at a passage between the Carpathians and the Alps, at an important ford used to cross the Danube river, and at an important crossing of central European ancient (trade) routes running from the Balkans or the Adriatic Sea to the Rhine river or the Baltic Sea, the most important route being the Amber Route.

The Blue Church - what an amazing church and so memorable 💙 Still in my mind!
Another great church would be the Blue Church as it is nicknamed. A Hungarian church that features a façade which was painted with blue colour. A line of blue tiles and wave-strip encircles the church. Something for sure that will attract your attention, you can’t miss it!
St. Martin’s Cathedral St. Martin’s Cathedral is another great example of architecture but also history. As we are reminded that 11 Hungarian kings and queens have started their monarchical journeys here.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Great value for money near the Old town
The ibis is a 5 min (albeit with stairs and cobblestone streets) walk away from Most SNP bus station and another 5 mins from the Old town. It's a great location to be near everything. It's a further 5 mins from the castle with a lovely view over the city.
The hotel itself is a bit dated but everything worked fine and it was pretty clean. The staff were super welcoming, friendly and eager to help; that made all the difference. Ask for a room not facing the highway as they windows were a bit thin and you could hear the cars in the morning. Nonetheless a great stay and very good value for money.

My recent visit to the Railway Museum in Bratislava was a delightful journey into the history of locomotion. Situated near the city center, this charming museum immerses visitors in the evolution of railways in Slovakia.
The museum's collection spans vintage locomotives, carriages, and railway artifacts, beautifully displayed in an expansive outdoor area. Highlights include meticulously restored steam engines and iconic rolling stock, each narrating a unique chapter in Slovakia's rail history. The interactive exhibits allowed me to experience the inner workings of some of these historical marvels.
The centerpiece was the nostalgic ride on a vintage train, evoking a sense of bygone eras as it chugged through picturesque landscapes. The knowledgeable staff added a personal touch, sharing anecdotes about the significance of each exhibit.
Adjacent to the museum is the historical Železná studnička station, offering a quaint setting for further exploration. The proximity to the city center made it a convenient and enriching stop during my Bratislava itinerary.

Presidential Palace
Another great place to visit for some photos would be the Presidential Palace. The Grassalkovich Palace is the residence of the president of Slovakia. The building is a Rococo-late Baroque summer palace with a French garden.
Primatial Palace
Whilst in the Old Town, you can see the Primatial Palace – a neoclassical palace which was built from 1778 to 1781The Slovak National Theatre building and square are another delight. Over there you can see kids running and racing each other with their parent ever so gently reminding them not to trip over and get hurt.

UFO Bridge From the castle’s hill you can also see the borders with Hungary and Austria which does make for an experience in itself. Not far, you will also be able to see the UFO Bridge or the Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising as it’s also known. It features an UFO like shape on top of the cables. The UFO bit is actually an observation deck and restaurant serving traditional food. We didn’t go there but we’d for sure want to next time.
Bratislava is an amazing capital that showcases beautiful and picturesque squares combined with narrow and cobbled streets filled with shops and cafes. It’s a traveller’s delight and a photographer’s dream.

#bucketlistreboot
Bratislava is believed to have been on the Roman limes line, the Empire’s northern border to the Germanic realm. After the Slavic tribes arrived the area grew in number of inhabitants.
Old Town Hall
First, we’d suggest you start your journey in the central square of the Old Town. The Old Town Hall is a must see – it is the oldest city hall in the country and it is one of the oldest stone buildings still standing in Bratislava.
Michael’s Gate
As you make your way down the cobbled streets, stop by the clock tower at the Michael’s Gate. It is the only city gate that has been preserved of the medieval fortifications and ranks among the oldest town buildings having been built in the 14th century.
