Bratislava Museum of Jewish Culture 🏢
#familytrip
My recent visit to the Bratislava Museum of Jewish Culture left me deeply moved and enriched by the historical narrative it unfolds. Nestled in the heart of Bratislava's Old Town, this museum is housed within the neolog synagogue, a building with architectural and cultural significance.
The museum's exhibits eloquently portray the rich tapestry of Jewish life in Slovakia, spanning centuries and encompassing art, literature, and religious artifacts. Particularly poignant were the sections dedicated to the Holocaust, providing a respectful and somber tribute to the lives affected during that dark period.
The synagogue itself is a highlight, its architecture reflecting a blend of historical and religious influences. The interior features intricate ornamentation and poignant memorials, creating a contemplative atmosphere.
The museum's central location allows for seamless exploration of Bratislava's Old Town, with its charming streets, historic buildings, and cozy cafes. Nearby attractions, such as the St. Martin's Cathedral and the Primate's Palace, contribute to the overall cultural richness of the area.
In summary, the Bratislava Museum of Jewish Culture is a poignant testament to the resilience and contributions of the Jewish community in Slovakia. Its location, immersive exhibits, and connection to the city's historical core make it an essential stop for those seeking a profound understanding of Bratislava's cultural diversity. #slovakia #bratislava #museum

I chanced upon this stunning restored castle in the sleepy countryside town of Halic Slovakia…
The origin of the Halic Castle dates back to the 12th century, with its first recorded mention from 1386. Perched on a hill, nothing rivals its majestic presence accompanied with panoramic views.
Enjoy the splendid gardens, the expansive grounds of the castle and dinner served in the main foyer while the summer sun lazily slips beyond the horizon. You will feel like royalty during your stay!

Bratislava is such an underrated city! It is the capital of Slovakia and it has lots of great historical buildings and unique streets!
Strolling through Old Town, there is the Gothic St. Martin's Cathedral, and the Bratislava Castle.
The city is also known for its vibrant nightlife and delicious cuisine.
Don't miss a visit to the Danube River. It runs through the city and offers scenic boat rides.
The people in Bratislava are surprisingly nice. They have helped me when I was so lost in translation!
Bratislava is a must-see destination in Central Europe. It is only an hour train ride from Vienna so it is definitely worth a day trip if you’re staying in Vienna! #slovakia

Blue Skies and a Blue Church in Slovakia
#tripblazers #urbanexplorer #slovakia
The Blue Church, or The Church of St Elizabeth is about a 15 minute walk from the town centre and is a beautiful place to sit and think after a long day walking around the sights of Slovakia. Everything on this church is blue. My favourite part is the mosaic inlay on the facades.
It’s not open all the time, so if you want to take a look inside you’ll have to time it right!

Slavín memorial monument - a place to visit.
You can also enjoy nice views of Bratislava from Slavín – memorial monument and military cemetery. It is the burial ground of thousands of Soviet Army soldiers who fell during WWII. The monument is situated on a hill and offers some great views of Bratislava from above. Bratislava also hosts a few peculiar statues as you stroll through the streets. A favourite for most tourists. One of them is Čumil or also know as “Man at work“. An offbeat bronze statue of a sewer worker resting at the top of a manhole, “peeping” at passers-by.

Bratislava Castle Perhaps one of the better places you can even consider finishing your day would be the Bratislava Castle. The castle building includes four towers (one on each corner) and a courtyard with a 80 m (260 ft) deep water well. The castle’s site, like today’s city, has been inhabited for thousands of years, because it is strategically located in the center of Europe at a passage between the Carpathians and the Alps, at an important ford used to cross the Danube river, and at an important crossing of central European ancient (trade) routes running from the Balkans or the Adriatic Sea to the Rhine river or the Baltic Sea, the most important route being the Amber Route.

The Blue Church - what an amazing church and so memorable 💙 Still in my mind!
Another great church would be the Blue Church as it is nicknamed. A Hungarian church that features a façade which was painted with blue colour. A line of blue tiles and wave-strip encircles the church. Something for sure that will attract your attention, you can’t miss it!
St. Martin’s Cathedral St. Martin’s Cathedral is another great example of architecture but also history. As we are reminded that 11 Hungarian kings and queens have started their monarchical journeys here.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Great value for money near the Old town
The ibis is a 5 min (albeit with stairs and cobblestone streets) walk away from Most SNP bus station and another 5 mins from the Old town. It's a great location to be near everything. It's a further 5 mins from the castle with a lovely view over the city.
The hotel itself is a bit dated but everything worked fine and it was pretty clean. The staff were super welcoming, friendly and eager to help; that made all the difference. Ask for a room not facing the highway as they windows were a bit thin and you could hear the cars in the morning. Nonetheless a great stay and very good value for money.

Christmas market in old town 🎄
The Christmas market started on November 22nd and brought the holiday atmosphere in the old town. After work and during weekends it’s nice to hit with a glass of warm wine and many Slovak specialists not only as drinks but also food and sweets. The most magical time of the year came within the snow. If you go around stop for a nice warm up drink and enjoy the atmosphere 😊#historicallandmarks #familytrip #local #slovakia #christmas

Railway Museum Bratislava 🚂
#familytrip
My recent visit to the Railway Museum in Bratislava was a delightful journey into the history of locomotion. Situated near the city center, this charming museum immerses visitors in the evolution of railways in Slovakia.
The museum's collection spans vintage locomotives, carriages, and railway artifacts, beautifully displayed in an expansive outdoor area. Highlights include meticulously restored steam engines and iconic rolling stock, each narrating a unique chapter in Slovakia's rail history. The interactive exhibits allowed me to experience the inner workings of some of these historical marvels.
The centerpiece was the nostalgic ride on a vintage train, evoking a sense of bygone eras as it chugged through picturesque landscapes. The knowledgeable staff added a personal touch, sharing anecdotes about the significance of each exhibit.
Adjacent to the museum is the historical Železná studnička station, offering a quaint setting for further exploration. The proximity to the city center made it a convenient and enriching stop during my Bratislava itinerary.

Another great place to visit for some photos would be the Presidential Palace. The Grassalkovich Palace is the residence of the president of Slovakia. The building is a Rococo-late Baroque summer palace with a French garden.
Primatial Palace
Whilst in the Old Town, you can see the Primatial Palace – a neoclassical palace which was built from 1778 to 1781The Slovak National Theatre building and square are another delight. UFO Bridge From the castle’s hill you can also see the borders with Hungary and Austria which does make for an experience in itself. Not far, you will also be able to see the UFO Bridge or the Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising as it’s also known. It features an UFO like shape on top of the cables. The UFO bit is actually an observation deck and restaurant serving traditional food. We didn’t go there but we’d for sure want to next time.

Bratislava is believed to have been on the Roman limes line, the Empire’s northern border to the Germanic realm. After the Slavic tribes arrived the area grew in number of inhabitants.
Old Town Hall
First, we’d suggest you start your journey in the central square of the Old Town. The Old Town Hall is a must see – it is the oldest city hall in the country and it is one of the oldest stone buildings still standing in Bratislava.
Michael’s Gate
As you make your way down the cobbled streets, stop by the clock tower at the Michael’s Gate. It is the only city gate that has been preserved of the medieval fortifications and ranks among the oldest town buildings having been built in the 14th century.
