Back in Sweden after way too long, and oh wow - it feels so good to be home! I’m finally able to celebrate my birthday, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve surrounded by fam and friends. Can we all agree that home turf just hits different? Kicked things off by cruising over to Mariefred, this super chill Swedish spot that’s legit postcard pretty even under those moody, cloudy skies. The vibes? Imagine cozy houses, stunning rivers and lakes (ultimate Swedish scenery). And the main star here: Gripsholm Castle. This ancient beauty is nearly 500 years old, and it’s totally worth a visit whether you’re a history buff or just chasing those fairytale feels. Even though the weather was serving classic Swedish clouds and a drizzle, the lakes and rivers were shimmering, and the outdoor landscapes looked straight-up magical. Honestly, Mariefred’s got that “let’s slow down and breathe” energy—perfect for soaking up those precious reunion moments. If you get hungry in town, try a traditional fika at a cozy local café (trust me, cinnamon buns here are next-level). Mariefred might be small, but it packs BIG character. This lakeside town is a beautiful place, where the greenery and blue sky complement the colorful buildings. 🌿 The moment I arrived, I was captivated by the towering church in the center of town! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go inside, but the church seemed to create the town's atmosphere! The town is also home to several cafes and shops, offering a taste of local, non-chain establishments! If the weather's nice, relaxing outside is also a great way to spend time! Another symbol of the town is the old castle, Gripsholm Slott! Gustav Vasa is probably the most famous Swedish king. He built this castle in the 16th century! (Photos 5, 8-10) There are many rooms, each decorated with portraits of various people, fireplaces, and furniture. Of all the places, the one that impressed me the most was the opera theater! The seats were so close to the stage that it felt like a private theater for the royal family. They don't go to see the performances themselves, they hold them at their home, so they really are royalty, lol. You can get there by taking the SJ from Stockholm and then changing onto a bus. I think the bus only accepts payment methods used by locals, so be careful if you go!
