More Lonely Than Iceland, The Nordic Travel Hidden Gem: Faroe Islands
Many people have been to Iceland, but few have truly set foot in a deeper secret place on Earth—the Faroe Islands.
This archipelago, consisting of 18 islands, has been rated by National Geographic as one of the world’s most beautiful islands, and Lonely Planet has included it in its "Must-Visit in a Lifetime" list. Cliffs, grassy slopes, waves, and lonely colorful villages intertwine, creating a scene like a real-life game model world 🗺️
✅ Far from Europe’s popular tourist routes, with very few visitors, yet it boasts an extremely high density of natural wonders
✅ "More sheep than people"—the name Faroe comes from "sheep," with about 70,000 to 80,000 sheep on the islands compared to a population of around 50,000
✅ Cliffs plunging into the sea, sea arches, grassy slopes, and waterfalls interwoven, it has one of the most stunning coastal landscapes in the North Atlantic
✅ Summer is the golden season for birdwatching, with large numbers of puffins and seabirds nesting on the sea cliffs
✅ A cool summer retreat, with July temperatures usually between 10–15°C, offering a rare "cool summer" in Europe
Unique natural landscapes👇
Mulafossur Waterfall
Located in one of the Faroe Islands’ most isolated villages, the waterfall plunges directly from the edge of a grassy slope into the North Atlantic, creating the spectacular "waterfall into the sea" scene. Behind it lies a small grass-roofed village, a view that has almost become the symbol of the Faroe Islands.
Sørvágsvatn / Leitisvatn (Sea Cliff Lake)
The world-famous "hanging lake" phenomenon, where from certain angles the lake appears to float above the sea, is one of the Faroe Islands’ most iconic visual wonders.
Kalsoy Island
A narrow island resembling a flute in the North Atlantic, with the Kallur Lighthouse standing on the cliff at the island’s end. It was also a filming location for the movie "007: No Time to Die."
Eysturoy and Streymoy Islands
The Faroe Islands’ most renowned Golden Circle tour connects three ancient villages. This area has the densest concentration of landscapes on the islands, with fjords, grassy slopes, and waterfalls constantly changing, including the largest waterfall in the Faroe Islands, Fossá Waterfall.
Mykines Island
Located at the westernmost tip of the archipelago, known as the "birdwatching paradise" of the Faroe Islands. It hosts a large number of seabirds, with the most popular being the round, chubby puffins. The island also has the Mykines Lighthouse, built in 1909, standing alone on the cliff, telling the legend of wind and sea.
