Tunisian Beach
Sousse Beach is a vibrant mix of relaxation and lively activity. The turquoise waters are incredibly inviting, perfect for a refreshing dip. I loved watching families and couples enjoying the sunshine. The beach is lined with hotels and cafes, so finding refreshments is easy. There's a real buzz here, with vendors offering everything from souvenirs to water sports. It's a great place to soak up the Tunisian atmosphere, and the proximity to the historic Medina adds another layer of cultural richness to the experience. Overall a great beach to visit.

The beaches of Sousse, Tunisia are beautiful.
Sousse, Tunisia, is known as the "Pearl of the Sahel." While its old city, the medina, is famous, its beautiful beaches are also a major attraction.
Just a 10-minute walk from the medina, a stunning landscape of white sand beaches unfolds. The soft white sand and the sparkling blue, emerald-green sea created a heavenly scene. Although it was still a bit chilly when I visited in April, there were people swimming in the sea. It seems to be a popular spot for locals.
Be aware that it gets extremely hot in the summer, but I highly recommend experiencing the beautiful beaches of Tunisia.
It's easily accessible from Tunis by train in about two hours.

Strolling Through the Medina in Sousse, Tunisia.
Sousse is a beautiful city in Tunisia, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Sahel." When it comes to sightseeing highlights, the old town—the Medina—is undoubtedly the top choice.
The Medina, a historic district commonly found in North African cities, is like a maze. Honestly, you often can't tell whether you're lost or actually on the right path. But that's all part of the fun as you watch the roaming cats or grab a cup of coffee at a cafe with the locals.
Another great thing about it is its manageable size. Even if you wander off course a bit, you can easily find your way out without getting exhausted. It also feels safer compared to Tunis, so why not enjoy a leisurely stroll?

Breathtaking Views from the Ribat in the Medina of Sousse.
Sousse is a beautiful city in Tunisia, often called the "Pearl of the Sahel." Near the entrance to the Medina, the historic old town, you'll find an Islamic fortress known as the Ribat. Back in the day, it served as a spiritual retreat for Muslims who also acted as soldiers guarding the area. Because of this defensive role, it features a tall watchtower that offers sweeping views of both the city and the sea.
The panoramic view from this tower is absolutely stunning. The sight of cubic, whitewashed Tunisian buildings clustered along the hillside gives off a charming, distinctly Arabian vibe! Just a heads-up: the stairs leading up are narrow and dark, so watch your step!
The entrance fee is 8 DT (around 400 JPY). Since your ticket only allows for a single entry, make sure to visit in the late afternoon if you want to catch the sunset!

In Sousse, Tunisia, Hotel Paris
In Sousse, a beautiful seaside town in Tunisia, I stayed at Hotel Paris. The room was a single room, simple and cozy with a bed and a sink. Although small, there were plenty of electrical outlets, and I was very satisfied.
There's also a shared kitchen and balcony, allowing you to fully enjoy the pleasant Tunisian breeze. Located on the edge of the Sousse medina, it's perfect for shopping, dining, and sightseeing.
Compared to other accommodations in the area, it's a reasonably priced option for a private room, so I recommend it.

Take the train to Sousse, a beautiful city known as the Pearl of the Sahel.
Sousse is a city located about two hours south of Tunis, Tunisia, by train. Known as the "Pearl of the Sahel," it boasts beautiful scenery and stunning coastlines.
Trains run 3-4 times a day, but only in the morning or evening, so it's recommended to check the official website for the timetable beforehand. Tickets can be purchased at the station counter.
Since I don't speak French or Arabic, I purchased my ticket by showing a Google Translate screen. It cost 8.1 DT for the outbound journey and 7.7 DT for the return. I'm not sure why there's a price difference.
I was in second class, but it was practically empty, so I easily found a seat! I highly recommend traveling from Tunis to Sousse by train!

My journey through Tunisia offered a perfect blend of history and seaside relaxation.
I started in Tunis, exploring the colorful chaos of the old Medina and the nearby Roman ruins of Carthage. Next, I moved to Hammamet, famous for its luxurious resorts and stunning golden beaches—ideal for unwinding.
The adventure continued in Sousse, the "Pearl of the Sahel," where I explored the formidable Ribat fortress and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of Port El Kantaoui. Finally, I visited Monastir to see the majestic Bourguiba Mausoleum, a key national landmark.
The entire trip was rich in culture, wonderful food, and warm Mediterranean hospitality.

Sousse really delivers for sun-chasers and culture nerds ☀️🌴 You get a wicked combo: ancient Medina vibes, seaside chill, and local cafés where you’ll want to linger forever. If you’re after that “wow” cultural backdrop—think palm-framed alleys and blue skies—this is THE spot!
Top Spots to Visit in Sousse:
1. Sousse Medina - Wander through winding streets packed with history, souks, and glimpses of local life. It’s a dreamy spot for snappy photos and people-watching.
2. Mausolée et Mosquée Sidi Bou Jaafar (RJMQ+GJ7, Boulevard de la Corniche) - An underrated gem! Step inside for dazzling tilework, a peaceful spiritual atmosphere, and stunning light. Tip: Early mornings are quieter; dress modestly and be respectful if you visit during prayer times.
3. Sousse Central Park منتزه سوسة (1 Rue d'Algerie, open all day, year-round) - This is where locals relax, jog, or snack beneath coconut trees. Go for a stroll at sunset when the city glows and outdoor cafés buzz with energy.
Sousse Travel Hacks & Food Tips:
Getting Around: Hop on local taxis or “louages” (shared vans) for cheap city rides. The seaside promenade is perfect for walks, and most Medina spots are best explored on foot!
Food: Definitely hit up a street café for Tunisian mint tea and fresh brik (crispy egg pastry). Seafood here is next-level—look for tiny restaurants facing the water.
Extra Tips: Carry cash for market shopping (some spots are cash-only), and pack sunglasses/sunscreen (the sun is no joke!).

Medina of Sousse: Winding Alleys, Whispering Walls: Step into Sousse’s Living History
The Medina of Sousse is a vibrant tapestry of time, stitched together by centuries of culture, trade, and devotion. Nestled along Tunisia’s Sahel coast, this UNESCO World Heritage site invites you to lose yourself in its maze of narrow alleys, where every turn reveals a story etched in stone.
Built in the 9th century, the medina was designed to protect against pirate invasions, with fortified walls and watchtowers that still stand tall. Inside, you’ll find the Great Mosque, the Ribat, and the Kasbah—each a testament to early Islamic architecture and resilience. The scent of spices, the shimmer of handcrafted jewelry, and the rhythm of local life make this medina more than a relic—it’s a living, breathing experience.
Whether you’re drawn by history, architecture, or the pulse of authentic Tunisian life, the Medina of Sousse offers a journey that lingers long after you leave. It’s not just a destination—it’s a doorway into the soul of a city that has stood the test of time.
