Having endured the ravages of war, most of the Old Town was rebuilt from ruins, faithfully restoring the architectural style of the former East Prussia, with retro, colorful houses creating a wonderful atmosphere. ✅ Transportation guide ✈️ This is a base for Wizz Air, with direct low-cost flights from most European cities like London, Paris, Rome, and Barcelona. I started at Sopot Molo (Europe's longest wooden pier, free to walk, 515 m out into the Baltic) at 7:30 am, paid nothing to enter, and watched the sea fog lift over the Gulf of Gdańsk. Then I took the SKM train from Sopot to Gdynia Orłowo (PLN 4–6 one way, tap card or buy at machine, 12 min), and walked the Kępa Redłowska nature reserve cliff path north of Orłowo pier—free, no ticket, wooden stairs down to a quiet beach with fishing boats pulled up on the shingle.The cliff is ~20 m high, forested with beech, and the wooden Orłowo pier (free) juts 130 m out. I made the mistake of trying to walk Sopot→Orłowo along the beach (it's 8 km of soft sand and groynes—exhausting). Train one way, walk the cliff, train back. Gdynia proper has a tram (line 21) from Orłowo to the city center for PLN 3.40, but the cliff reserve is the payoff, not the tram. Food: Sopot's Monte Cassino street has €6 zapiekanka; Orłowo cliff café charges €4 for a coffee with the view. Rule: no alcohol on Polish beaches, enforced with fines. Worth it? Yes—Sopot pier is touristy but the Orłowo cliff is the anti-Copacabana, quiet and forested, and the whole loop costs under PLN 15 transport. Excellent location featuring a new Beach Club across the road, free for guests and offering live music on some sunset evenings. The pool is spacious and there's an underpass for easy beach access, avoiding traffic hassle. Rooms are modern, spotless, and the staff is outstanding. Enjoyed breakfast by the pool every morning. Just a heads-up: the significant portion of the hotel on the right isn't completed, and the rooftop pool remains closed. Highly recommend staying here—the Beach Club adds great value!

Hey everyone! I recently spent a few days on a getaway in Gdańsk, Northern Poland, and I wanted to share my experience here. You know I'm obsessed with traveling to places that look like they're straight out of a movie, and visually, this place checked all the boxes. The old town looks like a medieval movie set—perfectly preserved with an incredible Hanseatic vibe. But, to be totally honest and transparent: it’s a one-and-done destination. I had a blast, but I wouldn't go back. Here are my thoughts and some tips in case you're thinking about going. ✨ What’s actually worth it: Visually, the city is breathtaking. The contrast of the colorful houses, the stroll along the Motława River at sunset, and St. Mary’s Church (the climb to the top is exhausting, but the views of the red roofs are worth it). Plus, for those of us living in Barcelona, Polish prices are a huge relief for the wallet; eating out is incredibly cheap. I also checked out nearby Sopot, and their massive wooden pier is super nice for a walk and some downtime. ❌ Reasons I wouldn't go back (and things to keep in mind): 1. You can see it all in a morning: The historic center is tiny. In about 3 or 4 hours, you’ve walked through all the key spots (Long Street, the Golden Gate, the river...). If you stay more than two days, you’ll be bored to tears because there isn't much else to do, nor are there many hiking trails or different activities. 2. The Baltic Sea is freezing: I went in the summer and, as a sea lover, I tried to dip my feet in at Sopot beach... big mistake! The water is ice-cold, even in July. Forget about a pleasant swim; it’s more for walking on the sand. 3. Watch out for tourist traps: On the main street downtown, restaurants are pricey and the food is pretty mediocre. If you want real, delicious, and cheap Polish food, look for the "Bar Mleczny" (traditional milk bars) in the side alleys. And watch out for the amber shops in the center; they hike up the prices like crazy for foreigners. 4. Transport and language: The tram and train ticket machines are sometimes only in Polish, and figuring out the zones is a total mess. My recommendation is to use Bolt or Uber to get between cities in the area—it saves you the headache and they are very cheap. 5. The vibe is a bit cold: Not to generalize, but compared to the atmosphere we have here in Spain, the locals are quite serious and reserved. It’s a bit hard to communicate if you need help. In short: Gdańsk is a beautiful destination for a quick weekend getaway (2 days is the perfect amount of time). You’ll get incredible photos, enjoy a very cool aesthetic, and it’s budget-friendly.
