I get this question a lot: "Isn't Brazil dangerous?" And my honest answer is: Brazil does have real safety issues, especially in some urban areas. But I also think the way Brazil is sometimes portrayed can make it sound like the entire country is one giant danger zone. That's simply not how I experience the country. Brazil is huge, and the experience can be completely different depending on the city, neighborhood, time of day and how you travel. I wouldn't walk around displaying expensive jewelry or my phone in certain areas. I wouldn't wander into an unfamiliar neighborhood at night just because Google Maps suggested it. And I'd definitely use some common sense with taxis, ATMs and crowded tourist areas. These are also among the precautions recommended in official travel advice. But that doesn't mean you can't have an incredible trip here. Brazil has beaches, incredible nature, amazing food, vibrant cities and some of the warmest people you'll meet. It’s one of the most unique landscapes I’ve ever seen. 5. São Paulo São Paulo surprised me the most. It’s a huge city packed with amazing restaurants, street art, museums, and nightlife.
