Settsu travel guide and discussion

Floating above Osaka: Umeda Sky Building’s floating garden observatory 🌆✨ Step into the future of Osaka’s skyline! 🏙️ In this video, I take you inside the breathtaking Umeda Sky Building – one of Japan’s most iconic architectural marvels. From the glass-enclosed elevator ride to the thrilling open-air Floating Garden Observatory, you’ll see why this spot is a must-visit for cityscape lovers. Watch as we cross the “escalator in the sky” suspended between two towers, and take in 360° panoramic views of Osaka – from the Yodo River to the distant mountains. Whether you come for sunset or night lights, the magic is real. ✨ Fun Fact 1: The Umeda Sky Building’s two main towers are connected by a donut-shaped observation deck – and they’re actually not perfectly aligned! The connecting escalator tilts to match the shift, making it feel like you’re floating. ✨ Fun Fact 2: The building was designed with eco-architecture in mind – the atrium acts as a natural cooling chimney, reducing the need for air conditioning even in Osaka’s humid summers. 3 Recommended Travel Tips for Visiting: 1. Go just before sunset – Buy your ticket 30–40 minutes before sunset to catch the golden hour and the dazzling night lights without leaving the deck. 2. Bring a coin for the “Kinetsu” lock – Near the observatory, there’s a popular spot to attach a “love lock” or make a wish. Vending machines nearby sell heart-shaped locks. 3. Visit the basement “Takimi Koji” – After sunset, head down to the retro-themed restaurant floor designed like 1920s Osaka. Great food and atmosphere away from crowds. 📍 Location: Umeda Sky Building, Osaka 🎟️ Tip: Book tickets online via trip.com to skip the line. #UmedaSkyBuilding #OsakaJapan #FloatingGardenObservatory #TripDotComMoments #JapanTravelGuide

10 EVENTS WORTH PLANNING YOUR TRIP AROUND 👀 If you’re already thinking about Japan this autumn, don’t only plan around the usual Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka sightseeing list. Autumn is one of the best times to visit because the cities start changing with the season, temples stay open later for special illuminations, cultural festivals return, and major exhibitions bring works that you normally wouldn’t get to see in Japan. So if you’re choosing your travel dates, why not build the trip around something actually happening? Here are 10 events worth putting on your Japan calendar 🍁👇 🎆 1. NANIWA YODOGAWA FIREWORKS 📅 October 17 📍 Osaka Think Osaka skyline, the Yodo River and thousands of fireworks lighting up the autumn night. The Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival is one of Osaka’s major fireworks events, with more than 20,000 fireworks traditionally launched during the show. And yes, this is one of those events where your travel date can completely change your experience. If you’re already planning Osaka around mid October, this could be a fun way to finish a sightseeing day. Spend the afternoon around Umeda or Osaka’s central neighborhoods, grab dinner, then make your way toward the river area. 🎒 Tip: Fireworks events in Japan can attract huge crowds. Don’t treat the start time as the time you should arrive. Give yourself plenty of time for transportation and crowd movement afterward. And remember that getting home after the fireworks can take much longer than getting there. 🎇 2. TOKYO BAY GRAND FIREWORKS 📅 October 24 📍 Tokyo Tokyo is getting a major fireworks night back after an 11 year break. The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks are scheduled to bring around 12,000 fireworks over Tokyo Bay. One important detail: 🎟️ This is a ticketed event. There isn’t the same kind of casual sidewalk viewing you might expect from some Japanese fireworks festivals, so don’t build your entire evening around simply showing up and finding a free spot. If you’re planning Tokyo around this date, check the official ticketing and access information before traveling. 📸 Tokyo fireworks with the city and bay in the background could be an incredible autumn memory, but plan the evening around transportation, entry and crowd control rather than trying to improvise. 👹 3. KYOTO YOKAI FESTIVAL 📅 Weekends through November 29 📍 Kyoto This one is for travelers who want something a little different from the standard Kyoto temple itinerary. Japan has a huge world of folklore creatures and supernatural stories, and the Kyoto Yokai Festival brings that atmosphere into a live event experience. Imagine stepping into an old samurai film set, seeing performers dressed as Japanese folklore monsters, then becoming part of the nighttime parade yourself. 👹 It’s a very different side of Kyoto. Instead of another checklist of temples, this gives you something theatrical, playful and deeply connected to Japanese folklore. If you’re traveling with friends, this could be one of those experiences that everyone remembers long after the trip. 🌙 4. KYOTO TEMPLES AFTER DARK 📅 From October 23 📍 Kyoto Kyoto is beautiful during the day. But autumn Kyoto after sunset is a completely different experience. During the autumn season, temples including Kōdai ji, Tō ji and Kiyomizu dera offer special nighttime openings and illuminations. 🍁 The combination of dark skies, traditional architecture and illuminated maple trees is exactly why autumn evenings in Kyoto can feel almost cinematic. This is also one reason I wouldn’t plan Kyoto as only a daytime destination. You can spend the morning exploring shrines and old streets, take a break during the afternoon, then return outside after sunset for temple illuminations. 📸 Photography tip: Night photography in Kyoto is less about trying to make everything bright and more about capturing the contrast between the darkness, temple architecture and illuminated trees. And please remember that these places are religious sites, not just photo sets. Keep voices low and follow photography rules. 🍜 5. TOKYO RAMEN FESTA 📅 October 30 to November 3 📍 Tokyo If your Japan trip is basically an excuse to eat, I completely understand. Tokyo Ramen Festa brings famous ramen shops from different parts of Japan together in one location. 🍜 More than one style. More than one region. More than one reason to tell yourself, “I’ll only have one bowl.” The listed ticket price is ¥1,100 per bowl. It’s a particularly easy event to add to a Tokyo itinerary because you don’t have to spend an entire day there. You can combine it with other Tokyo sightseeing and turn it into a lunch or dinner stop. 💡 Tip: If you’re traveling with friends, split different bowls so you can try several styles rather than ordering the same thing. And don’t forget that ramen styles can be dramatically different across Japan. Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kyushu and other regions each have their own traditions and flavor profiles. 🎨 6. LOUVRE RENAISSANCE MASTERPIECES 📅 Until December 13 📍 The National Art Center, Tokyo, Roppongi If you’re interested in art, this is one to watch. The exhibition brings more than 50 works connected to the Renaissance, including Leonardo da Vinci’s La Belle Ferronnière. One particularly interesting detail is that the work is being shown in Japan for the first time. That makes this more than just another museum stop. You can combine the exhibition with a Roppongi afternoon, explore the surrounding art and architecture, then stay for dinner and Tokyo’s nighttime atmosphere. 🎨 For travelers who love museums, this could easily become one of the main reasons to choose your travel dates. 🌟 7. MUSÉE D’ORSAY MASTERWORKS 📅 November 14 to March 28 📍 Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Ueno Another major art exhibition arrives in Tokyo in November. The exhibition features around 110 works associated with the Musée d’Orsay collection, with names such as Monet, Renoir, Millet and Van Gogh. And yes, Van Gogh’s Starry Night Over the Rhône is part of the lineup mentioned for the exhibition. 📍 The location is especially convenient for travelers because Ueno is already one of Tokyo’s major cultural areas. You can build an entire day around it: Museum in the morning. Ueno Park. Ameyoko for food and shopping. Then somewhere completely different in Tokyo at night. If you’re planning a longer Japan trip, this is the kind of event that can be added without completely changing your itinerary. 🍵 8. TOKYO GRAND TEA CEREMONY 📅 October 24 to 25 and October 31 to November 1 📍 Tokyo Want to experience something more traditional? The Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony gives visitors an opportunity to experience one of Japan’s most refined cultural traditions. And you don’t have to already be an expert in tea ceremony to enjoy it. The event is designed to introduce the culture to a wider audience, including international visitors. 💴 Listed participation is around ¥800 for certain sessions, with English sessions available and same day tickets offered for some activities. 🍵 This is one of those experiences where slowing down is actually the point. Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, sit down, watch the movements, appreciate the setting and understand a little more about the tradition behind the ceremony. It can also be a nice break from the constant walking that comes with a Tokyo trip. 🎨 9. ROPPONGI ART NIGHT 📅 October 31 to November 1 📍 Roppongi, Tokyo Tokyo nightlife meets contemporary art. During Roppongi Art Night, the neighborhood transforms into an enormous art space, with installations and performances taking over public areas. The event runs from evening into the early morning, meaning you can experience Tokyo in a completely different way. 🌃 Instead of going from one museum to another during the day, you’re basically walking through an open air gallery after dark. This year’s spotlight country is France. If you’re already in Tokyo around Halloween weekend, this is an interesting alternative to the usual nightlife plans. And because the event spreads across the neighborhood, comfortable shoes are absolutely essential. 🎬 10. TIM BURTON’S LABYRINTH 📅 From November 25 📍 Toyosu, Tokyo If you’ve ever watched a Tim Burton film and thought, “I want to walk inside this world,” this might be the event for you. Tim Burton’s Labyrinth is an immersive experience where visitors move through different rooms inspired by Burton’s distinctive worlds. Instead of simply looking at artwork behind glass, the concept lets you physically move through the environment. 🖤 Expect strange characters, surreal visuals, dark fantasy atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for photographs. Toyosu is also easy to combine with other waterfront attractions, so you could make this part of a full Tokyo Bay day. 🍁 HOW TO BUILD YOUR JAPAN AUTUMN TRIP AROUND THESE EVENTS The biggest mistake would be trying to attend all 10. You’d spend the entire trip on trains. Instead, choose the event that naturally fits the cities you’re already interested in. 🇯🇵 TOKYO FOCUS October 24 Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks October 24 to 25 Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony October 30 to November 3 Tokyo Ramen Festa October 31 to November 1 Roppongi Art Night November 14 onward Musée d’Orsay exhibition November 25 onward Tim Burton’s Labyrinth That alone gives you enough reasons for a full Tokyo itinerary. 🍁 KYOTO FOCUS Kyoto Yokai Festival Weekend dates through November 29 Kyoto temple nighttime illuminations From October 23 You can combine these with the classic Kyoto route: Kiyomizu dera Ninenzaka Sannenzaka Gion Fushimi Inari Arashiyama Philosopher’s Path But leave your evenings free for the seasonal events. 🎆 OSAKA FOCUS October 17 Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Combine it with Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, Kuromon Market, Umeda and Namba. 🍁 WHEN SHOULD YOU GO? If autumn colors are the main reason you’re visiting Japan, remember that peak foliage doesn’t arrive everywhere at the same time. Tokyo and Kyoto generally reach their best colors later than some northern and mountainous areas, but exact timing changes each year depending on temperatures and weather. That’s why I wouldn’t build a Japan trip around one exact “peak foliage” date months ahead. Instead, combine autumn scenery with events that have fixed dates. That way, even if the leaves are slightly earlier or later than expected, your trip still has plenty happening. 📸 AUTUMN JAPAN PHOTO IDEAS This season is basically made for photography. 🍁 Red maple leaves around Kyoto temples 🗼 Tokyo skyline after sunset 🎆 Fireworks over the city 🍜 Ramen steaming on a cool evening 🍵 Traditional tea ceremony details 🎨 Contemporary art installations ⛩️ Lanterns and illuminated temple grounds 🚆 Autumn scenery from a train window The best photos aren’t always the famous landmarks. Sometimes it’s a quiet street covered in fallen leaves, a bowl of ramen after walking around all day, or the moment you turn a corner and see a temple glowing against the autumn sky. ✨ #JapanTravel #VisitJapan #JapanAutumn #Tokyo #Kyoto #Osaka #JapanItinerary #JapanEvents #JapanTips #TokyoTravel #KyotoTravel #OsakaTravel #JapanTrip #AutumnInJapan #ExploreJapan

Address: 1-4-6-102 Senrioka, Settsu City, Osaka Prefecture Just a 1-minute walk from the JR Senrioka Station West Exit. The west side of Senrioka Station is currently undergoing redevelopment with new high-rise apartments and shops, making the area look very vibrant. This restaurant in Senrioka has been around for a while and is a hit with the locals. You can enjoy delicious pasta and pizza here. It felt like prices have gone up slightly since my last visit... Today's order: Fresh Pasta Lunch Set (for 2) – 3,080 yen (tax incl.) It comes with two appetizers, a choice of three pastas (served on a large platter for two), plus dessert and drinks for two. The pasta choices are cream-based, Bolognese, or oil-based. It seems the options rotate daily, except for the Bolognese. We went with the Bolognese this time. The appetizers were different from our last visit, so the menu isn't always the same—it's clearly well-thought-out each time 😋 As for the Bolognese, the fresh pasta was perfectly chewy and absolutely delicious 😊 Since customers were streaming in one after another, I definitely recommend making a reservation 🤭

Osaka has plenty of busy places, but sometimes it’s nice to see a quieter side of the city. Yodogawa Riverside Park stretches along the Yodo River, with wide open spaces, walking paths, bridges and views of Osaka in the distance. Bring some food, walk along the river, sit on the grass or just watch the trains passing by. In the late afternoon, the light gets softer and the whole place feels even more relaxing. No sightseeing checklist. Just a few hours by the river. Sometimes, this is all you need from a day in Osaka. 🌿 #slowtraveling #japan #osaka

It's a very cozy little restaurant where you can enjoy a wide variety of excellent dishes, including stone-baked pizzas, pastas, salads, and carpaccio made with seasonal ingredients. Here's what I ordered this time: Stone-Baked Pizza Lunch Set - 1,485 yen (tax included) Appetizer, 1 choice of pizza, coffee or tea, and dessert And, the Pasta Lunch Set - 1,485 yen (tax included) Appetizer, pasta, coffee or tea, and dessert You can choose your favorite pizza and pasta from a few different options! The pizza has a perfectly chewy crust and is incredibly delicious! The portion size is just right, so you can easily finish it all by yourself. The pasta was seasoned to perfection and tasted amazing 😍 For dessert, we had panna cotta. It was the perfect portion—just exactly what you need to satisfy that craving for a little sweet treat after a meal 😊

Waldorf Astoria Osaka|A luxurious experience overlooking the entire city from the clouds ✨ First Impression · The ceremonial grandeur of the lobby 🌟 The moment I stepped through the door, I was completely stunned. The high-ceilinged lobby resembled a modern art museum, with crystal chandeliers cascading from the dome, light flowing between metal and marble. When checking in at the front desk, the staff handed me a warm cup of matcha and a damp towel. Feeling the warmth of the tea instantly eased half of my travel fatigue. Nearby, an elderly Japanese gentleman was chatting with the concierge in the Kansai dialect. That relaxed yet refined atmosphere immediately made me realize: this is not just a hotel, but a carefully crafted living space. Room Details · Every square meter tells a story 🛋️ This time I stayed in a high-floor corner room. Upon entering, I saw a full wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, with Osaka Castle and distant mountains like a moving painting. Waldorf Astoria’s bedding is famously comfortable; lying down, my body was gently supported. The pillows came in soft and firm options—I chose a softer one and slept until naturally waking up. The bathroom featured black and white marble with a double sink design, and the amenities were from Aesop. The herbal scent when washing my hands lifted my mood unexpectedly. The biggest surprise was a Nespresso coffee machine hidden in the walk-in closet, with a full range of capsules. Brewing a cup in the morning and standing by the window watching the city slowly wake up is a memory that still makes me smile. Dining Experience · Your taste buds are taken seriously 🍣 Breakfast was at the "La Baie" restaurant, served in a semi-buffet style. Don’t miss their Eggs Benedict—the hollandaise sauce was incredibly smooth, and instead of regular ham, it was layered with smoked salmon, creating rich flavors in every bite. I also tried the Japanese breakfast; the miso soup was freshly made, the rice grains were distinct, and the side dishes changed daily. The rooftop bar "The Bar" is a must-visit at dusk. Order their special cocktail "Yodo River," sit by the window waiting for the sunset as the sky shifts from orange-pink to deep blue, and the lights of Umeda gradually turn on. At that moment, I felt every penny was well spent. Location & Surroundings · Feel the city’s pulse on foot 🚶‍♀️ The hotel is located in the Umeda area, about a 7-8 minute walk to JR Osaka Station. The underground passage connects directly to Hankyu Department Store and Lucua Mall, so you don’t need an umbrella on rainy days. There’s a convenience store and drugstore right downstairs. If you crave something at night, grab some oden and enjoy it by the window with the night view—a little luxury just for yourself. Shinsaibashi is two subway stops away, and USJ is about a 30-minute trip with one transfer. The location strikes a balance between bustling and peaceful—right in the heart of the city but not overwhelmed by noise. Practical Tips · A few small tips 💡 It’s recommended to book a room with breakfast included, as buying breakfast separately costs about 6000 yen per person, which isn’t very cost-effective. When checking in, politely ask if you can be assigned a high-floor room—the view difference is significant. The hotel’s pool and gym are on the upper floors and require advance reservation; remember to bring your swimsuit as on-site options are limited. If it’s your birthday or anniversary, notify them by email in advance—they will prepare a small cake and a handwritten card, making the occasion extra special. Also, the underground shopping streets around Umeda Station are like a maze and can be confusing for first-timers. Look for signs to "Grand Front Osaka" and pass through there for the most straightforward route. Why Stay Here · Why it’s worth staying at least once 💎 Osaka has no shortage of great hotels, but Waldorf Astoria embodies "thoughtfulness" to the core. It’s not flashy luxury, but every detail makes you feel respected and cared for. From the doorman remembering your name to the restaurant staff recalling what coffee you ordered yesterday, these small touches build an irreplaceable sense of belonging. If you want to treat yourself in Osaka, this place won’t disappoint. It’s not just a stop on your journey, but a part of the trip worth savoring. 🌸

At the heart of Osaka, the "Water City," the shimmering waves of the Dojima River intertwine with the sharp edges of skyscrapers to create a flowing masterpiece, and the Four Seasons Hotel Osaka is the sky palace suspended above this painting. It is not only a harbor for travelers but also an immersive art exhibition about light, water, and Japanese aesthetics. 🏙️ Stunning Views: A Water City Scroll in the Clouds The hotel is located on the upper floors (28th to 37th) of the One Dojima Building, perfectly embodying Osaka’s "Water City" character. Whether curled up on the sofa in a corner room or soaking in the deep bathtub by the window, your view will be filled with unobstructed scenes of the Dojima River, Nakanoshima Oasis, and the dazzling skyline. At dusk, the setting sun casts golden bands over the distant mountains and the Yodo River’s surface; at night, below you flows a river of car lights, while the Umeda district’s neon lights twinkle in the distance. Hey guys! Just took the bullet train into Shin-Osaka and had to share. Honestly, the view from the train window right before you pull into the station is super cool. It’s this awesome mix of retro Japanese billboards and modern skyscrapers, which gives it a really neat vibe. If you’re riding the Shinkansen on a sunny morning (especially heading towards Tokyo), definitely try to grab a window seat. When the train crosses the Yodogawa River, the view of the blue sky, the green riverbanks, and the skyline in the background is amazing. Pro tip: keep your phone or camera ready and use a fast shutter speed so you don't get a blurry shot! 📸 Apparently, this station was built back in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympics because the main Osaka station was getting way too crowded. Today, it’s a massive transit hub, but it’s also a food paradise. You cannot leave this station without trying the food. I stopped by the Eki Marche area inside the station and grabbed some pork buns from "551 Horai". They are super cheap, hot, and seriously delicious. I also picked up one of those cool Shinkansen-shaped bento boxes from Awajiya for the ride. Overall, a pretty awesome start to the Osaka trip. If you've been here, what's your go-to station snack? Let me know! 🙌

So I recently saved up some money from my internship allowance to treat myself to a trip to Osaka, and I decided to splurge on the new Four Seasons Osaka in Dojima. If you know me, you know like 80% of my travel budget always goes to food, so booking this place was a very calculated decision because their dining options looked insane. Getting there was actually quite chill, though the Osaka underground station maze almost got the best of me. We walked over from Nishi-Umeda station, and it’s super near Kitashinchi, which is basically foodie heaven anyway. The weather was a bit breezy when we went, and honestly, the peace and quiet here is such a relief compared to the crazy, packed crowds over at Shinsaibashi. I booked a room on the "Gensui" floor (the 28th floor). It’s super cool because it’s designed like a modern Japanese ryokan but high up in the sky. You walk in barefoot on tatami mats, and they even have an exclusive SABO tea lounge just for guests on this floor. It felt so zen and fancy, I almost didn't want to leave the room. But okay, let's talk about the food because that's where my wallet literally cried (but my stomach was so happy). First, I had to try Sushi L’Abysse Osaka. It’s this French-meets-Edomae sushi omakase with only 18 seats. The flavor combinations were absolutely mind-blowing—definitely the highlight of my trip. For late-night drinks, we went up to Bar Bota on the 37th floor. The 360-degree night view of the city lights was beautiful, and the herb-infused cocktails were quite unique. Also, don't sleep on Farine, their bakery on the ground floor. I grabbed some pastries in the morning and the croissants were so buttery and flaky! After eating my way through the hotel, I spent the evening at the 36th-floor indoor pool and the traditional public bath (ofuro). Soaking in the hot water while looking out at the skyline after walking 20,000 steps was the absolute best feeling. It is definitely on the pricier side, but if you're a foodie who appreciates a quiet, aesthetic space away from the main tourist hustle, it's 10/10 worth saving up for.

Children's Day on May 5 is associated with the image of colorful Koinobori carp flags made of cloth (in Japanese, Koi means carp, Nobori means flag, banner) over 3m long hung on high poles in front of balconies or in the yard. The image of carp jumping over the Dragon Gate to become a dragon has become a symbol of strength, courage to overcome fierce waterfalls and difficulties to achieve success in life. The custom of hanging carp flags on Children's Day of every Japanese family is also to pray for children to be healthy and successful like carp.
